Yeah... my mistake. Here is what happened. Gemini told me Udio was a good AI for making music for YouTube. But when I read the terms, it turns out I am not the owner of any output of that AI, and sharing or even recording is a violation of the terms. Which I did, because I was stupid enough to trust AI.
So I set them to private and will delete the video when I come home.
I can still share the music, though... you just have to listen at it at Udio's website. Let me find you a link to my Playlist...
The song I translated it the second song in the playlist. All songs are made with my old poems as lyrics. In the first few songs I created, the lyrics are smashed up at some points, but when I got better at prompting, and use all the settings to my disposal, the lyrics are spot on. Even in Dutch, that is surprising! At least I was surprised.
Anyhow, take a peek at my music. And let me know what you think.

Just an FYI that if you use Google Gemini, you might start to experience problems with old chat threads. I tried generating new images that were consistent with previous images and Gemini kept telling me it couldn't generate images like that or it couldn't do something that it had certainly done in the past.
This was happening with all my old chat threads. When I started a brand new chat thread, it seemed to go back to normal. At least so far.
I described what I experienced to Gemini in a new thread and it did highlight some recent transitions and changes as well as some know examples of problems when chat threads get too long.
Anyway, I just wanted to give a heads up in case anyone else experiences problems. It took me about an hour this morning to figure out what was happening and going back and forth with Gemini on old threads.
Also, another issue that I discovered today in my investigation of this problem is that Gemini apparently can't make a "transparent" background, even though it was supposedly doing just that and didn't tell me it couldn't (until today).
Whenever I asked Gemini to make a background transparent it would make the checkered pattern like changing the Alpha Channel in GIMP. So, I thought it was working. After Gemini told me it couldn't actually do that, I tested one of the images and, sure enough, the checkered pattern shows up instead of being transparent.
So, it appears that you would have to have your backgrounds a solid color, like white, and then use another program, like GIMP, to make the background transparent.
Glad I finally discovered that.
Have a great day! -
Yeah, google rolls out many things for free fore a week of 2, and then hides it behind the paywall. Gemini has so many flaws, and yet I keep using it.
If you want to use the same images as inspiration over and over, try making a gem in gemini. Upload an image for the style, for your characters etc, and it will carry over into new chats. You can give clear instructions that will also carry over in new chats with that gem. -

I've seen that yup. And that part sure is sloppy as hell. A shame because it doesn't seem that hard to understand and process. -
There is a solution for the transparent backgrounds, I tend to use removal.ai to remove the backgrounds from images. This is after using imagereziser.com to make the image the filetype and size I need. I guess GIMP might also work, but might be slower.Just an FYI that if you use Google Gemini, you might start to experience problems with old chat threads. My smartphone does it. That said, it's not perfect.
I still think a powerful AI like Gemini should just handle it directly, eg "rpg ogre enemy on transparent background" would actually generate an ogre on a transparent background in a png file. Doesn't seem so hard considering what else AI generators are able to handle. -
@Indinera I agree that a good AI like Gemini should be able to do that. That is why when it seemed to do what I was asking I just took that for granted. It looked like the transparent background you would see in GIMP so I just thought it was successful and it didn't tell me otherwise.
Maybe that will be a feature they improve in the future. -
I was getting ready to upload a few more AI image experiments, but suddenly the images are too big at just under 2.5MB per image. Guess I will have to take the time to reduce the size so I can post them.
However, I did just discover a website called meme-gen.ai. It doesn't just make memes. It lets you update an image or video and then make changes to the video or animate the image.
I just tried it with an image that Gemini generate and had it do a simple walking animation. It worked great and I could download it as an MP or GIF. Pretty cool. -
Wanna make music? Do NOT use Udio.
The guy threatening to steal my lyrics, is a mod.
To clarify: For a monthly €12, I get to generate music, but with every song, there is thing like remix and extend... But my lyrics are all very, very personal. I don't want people to see a buttons and click it. The next thing that happens is: The song ends up on their profile, as if they made it. And for that money, I am NOT able to share the music on other platforms or download it for myself.
So I asked if there was a way to disable those buttons. I got some wise-ass answers, such as: "Yeah, don't publish your songs." I even tried unpublishing them all, but that didn't disable those buttons.
Then a staff member told me I needed a pro membership, which is 3 times the price. So I said that if I can't use the music, but everyone else can just take it, then I'll find another service. Another staff member joins in: "Oh, I am so going to steal his stuff and get rich." As if that was my worry.
So, whatever you do, do not ever even think of using Udio: The AI is nice, real nice, but the terms are not optimal and the community is horrible.
I canceled my subscription straight away.
Update: I am no subscribed to Suno: The music is even better, I am the legal owner of the output and can do with it what I want, and it is cheaper than the €12 I'd pay for Udio. Just too bad I'll lose the song I already created. -
I've never tried any 'music' AI.
What can you do with Suno?
Can you show it a melody and it recreates it with full orchestration?
How do you embed lyrics sung with the right melody and not just some random one? Or do you only write lyrics and it sings it the way it wants? How much control do you have on the output?
I'm a music writer but I can't sing. So all these questions are crucial to me. I'd be thrilled to test how my songs sound with actual capable singing on it, but I'm only interested if I retain maximum control on the output. -
If that is what you want, then that is what it will generate. If you want it to generate a black metal concert, a rap battle or a rock opera, it will. Just like images, it is all in the prompt.I've never tried any 'music' AI.

But uhmn... You write the music or the lyrics? If you write the music, then a midi recorder would be your choice. AI (at least ones I've played with, which is 4 or 5) do allow you to write your own text, music style, genre, tempo etc, but not the actual melody. If you write your own melody, you are way better off just downloading software that can translate this sheetmusic to
playing instruments the way a keyboard does.
But why not just try it out? You get 5 free songs a day with Suno to try. You need a membership to actually use the music though. -
But why not just try it out?
I'm not overly interested in just random music.
To be honest even artworks are generally tailored to something I like - if I can't get that much control on the songs Suno generates, I find it a bit pointless.
You write the music or the lyrics?
I do both. I can (and have) released fully completed instrumentals already (tons of them actually, even wrote a full OST for one of my games), I'm as prolific with music as I'm with games xD but I can't sing for the life of me. So I can't add the lyrics even though I know the melody they're supposed to follow. -
It's not random. You can create whatever you want. Just like images, it is all in the prompts.
Look, I made this with Suno:
Those are little limericks I wrote about family members years ago, and now turned it into a freaking hot punk song. And I own it all. :) -
It's not random. You can create whatever you want. Just like images, it is all in the prompts.
But can it use a base music like Gemini can use a base image?
That's what I like about Gemini. You can contribute a lot to the output.
Even the most specific prompt ("punk rock from 1978 blending sex pistols and green Day with a unique touch of prog rock and some subtle shoegaze vibe") still has nothing to do with you unless you can actually show the AI a base to work from. -
Yeah, you can upload base music. Like you can record yourself on the piano, and have the AI base the song on that music. But, be careful not to upload songs by standing bands or artists. That would be waiting for a lawsuit to happen.
-
It would be my original work. I wonder what it can do then.
-
More concept art for Chronicles of Avineria.
By this point I am tempted to use these as face portraits in the actual game, at least for the time being until I can get some commisions done, which will take years. Do you think I should do it or not? -
@Darkmoon9 I think these look fantastic! Very nice!
As far as using them in a game instead of just being placeholders, I say do whatever you think is best for your game and your vision.
There are going to be people who don't like it, who would complain, who would say negative things, who would leave negative reviews or remarks, or who would just skip over the game entirely.
But you know what? I don't think those are the majority of players.
If you make a really good game that is enjoyable and well designed and implemented, I think there are a TON of players who could care less about the fact that you used some AI generated images.
And honestly, I'm at a point where I don't really care about those people's opinions. I want to stay friendly and cordial on the forum, but if people want to ignore me or whatever because they don't like my decision to use AI as the tool it is intended to be, then those are people I don't really need to associate with anyway. That is their decision, not mine.
People can have disagreements and still be friendly, polite, and interactive within a community. If using AI is the "line in the sand" for some people, then so be it.
Again, would you lose a few potential players over deciding to use some AI generated images? Probably. Especially if you end up releasing a game within the next year or so.
But the farther down the road this goes, the less likely that is, in my opinion. I think we are moving in the direction where AI use across the broad spectrum of life is going to become common place. It already is in some aspects of life and people don't even know it.
Ultimately, it's your own personal decision and choice. If you have ANY reservations about using AI then you probably shouldn't use it. Otherwise, you set yourself up to continuously agonize and second guess your decision.
And another question I would ask myself is "If I wasn't part of this forum and I was just making my game on my own, would I even be questioning whether I should use AI generated images?"
If the answer to that question is "No", then I think it is a few vocal opinions on this forum that is causing the angst.
As an example, not too long ago it was pointed out how little activity this thread has with only a few people posting in it. The inference was that the majority of forum users weren't interested in AI use because they weren't participating.
But look at how many views this thread has. Over 5k and growing everyday. I know because I have been watching it grow. You aren't going to hit that number with only about 5 people actively posting here. So, forum users are looking at the content. But like me not too recently, they just haven't dipped their toes in the water yet to share anything. Which is fine.
TLDR version: Do what make you happy. Life is too short to do otherwise. -
I could also potentially release two versions of the game, one using ai and one that doesn't. I was originally going to do this for my first game, but I eventually decided to not use ai in the final version. I had gotten to the point I had commissioned artwork for most characters anyway and I did think the old ai artwork was pretty flawed. I also got sick of anti ai fanaticism and wanted to sidestep the problem altogether.@Darkmoon9 I think these look fantastic! Very nice!

This is a harder decision now as the latest ai artwork I have here is superior to the ai artwork I had access to before. Do you use ai in your games by the way?
Also, here is some more artwork, primarily of the villains, these being Doctor Zelina, Zelina daughter of the Void, Sun Chen the Dragonlord and Ares (Who is a corrupted Archangel Michael.) -
Very wise words, Zombie.
I've never ever listened to any naysayer, I've followed my vision the entire time and my career has been successful.
Never forget, people who talk the most (and especially badmouth the most) often do the less. They fail at life and you should never give them any power over you.

Whereas actually they were just afraid. I wasn't. Don't be afraid :rock-right:
Do you use ai in your games by the way?
Not so far. I'm still undecided about it. I do like generative AI because it fills my main weakness (visuals) and produces stunning quality (slop my ***). On the other hand, there are a lot of things I can do (and want to do) myself and/or that have large affordable man-made choices on the internet (such as musics). I still care a lot (© FNM) for what humans can do.
