  1. AI can increase productivity, and it is only as powerful as its user.
"A sharp blade remains dull with a novice, but a dull blade can still cut through paper when wielded by a master."

using AI will help those who cant hire a team, and will definitely gain advantage to those who can use the tool. but AI has a saturation point and bias on its training data, it's still at its infant stage.

also, all resources made with AI have semantic ID, watermarks invisible to the human eye and ears but digitally visible.
  2. Semantic ID?

Very interesting, I added comfy UI AI graphics generator to my local drive and connected it via MCPs to GIMP and Claude desktop pro. It lets me create any describable hi res image in about 15 seconds. Unlimited for free and edit them by voice command while in GIMP. Claude can direct the entire installation process, which takes about 4 hours and only requires around 10 GB drive space. I can totally recommend it.
  4. @ZENWARECO

Why are you making RPG Maker games in the first place?

If it's to make a buck, there are far more reliable ways to do that. However, if you are determined to sell indie RPG Maker games, I highly recommend asking @Indinera for advice. He has been successfully selling indie games for over a decade.

With regards to commercial games, this is just my opinion. Using generative AI for images or audio will likely do more harm than good. The current sentiment means you risk making more permanent enemies rather than temporary friends by doing so.

If it's just to have fun, then you don't need anyone's approval. Focus on the parts of development you love and outsource to humans or use AI for the rest.

If you are making a free game to share, I suggest expanding your social circle. While these forums are cozy, they aren't as active as they used to be. The RPG Maker subreddit is much more active and great for seeing what projects appeal to people based on upvotes. WARNING: a big chunk of the RPG Maker Reddit community is fiercely anti-AI; posting AI-related content will likely get your post instantly downvoted to zero.

Then you have to ask yourself, is RPG Maker really the right tool for you? I believe it is. And AI is just another tool to augment rather than supplant RPG Maker... as long as your goal is to have fun rather than to make a buck.

Below is a quote from DjBeardo, the chief moderator of the RPG Maker subreddit.
Why do people use RPG Maker?
Let’s admit it: People are attracted to RPGMaker because they are bad at computers. Whether this person is too young, or too old, or too busy, or too dumb, I think we can all admit that they did not become attracted to RPGMaker because they had mastered C# and needed a new challenge to create the 3D engine of their dreams in a creaky product that is consistently 5-10 years behind the curve in what game developers need. And when this hypothetical person thinks about the game of their dreams, it does not include their janky MSPaint drawings. Their game of their dreams looks cool. It sounds cool. It has cool features. And then suddenly there’s a tool that can make something a whole lot better than what they can make on their own. They don’t care that it’s AI. They just know that the sprite of pikachu that they made for their Pokemon fan-game looks like a melted yellow turd when they draw it, and it looks actually recognizable when AI makes it. Dream achieved.
  5. Well I like it bc its retro and mostly easy to use, hard to make something good. A friend of mine gave it to me sometime in 2003 and I rather liked it. I mean I had DREAMS about MANY that I was working on. Twisted Fate. Attainment of the Mystic Knight. Legends of Infinity. Maybe Secrets of Oceania. But that's a different topic. They were AWESOME but kinda scary. :/ Many people I know seem to steer me away from AI. Some people I know treat AI like their child. I happen to like the nostalgia - the good old snes days, or even 64 days. Then when better graphics came out, kabung. The more nostalgia the better. I'll take out the AI images...which kinda sucks. I wanted battlers in different positions and whatnot - I have a tablet, though the styles are tricky to even do bc PIXELS. Its' weird, my realistic art is good and now my cartoons and that suck. And I was set on this game too - Secrets of Oceania. I know how to use computers but I have to take better care of them. That I need to get better at.

Ah. I am NOT making an EXCUSE for AI either. No. AI Excuses?? The algorithms are cursed!!
  6. Would any interest exist in an alternative to VS battlegrid plugin that utilizes a linked battlefield with skill ranges and relative AOEs from targets? My game has this and I could create a generic version that would work for anyone using VS ATB system. It allows characters to move between and behind enemies. Melee (range=1) skills require adjaceny to target.
  7. Dunno, don't know how to help on that. I am many but seems like I's a 2003, foo. Though I was doing XP for a bit, then Ace, then VX Ace, then MV, the newest RPG Maker seems dope (mostly due to the available animation program it has). SON DAS AWESOME. #Help
  8. Think ill skip it. It is a major restructure job for a limited audience. Though its totally legal, it could inspire unwanted drama.
  9. Luz Babe Level Even More Small.png

Like that's AI. I can draw that too. But damn, that's nuts. That's Luz only....yeah. :p Now she's awesome. This makes me a happy man, AI still be weird though, the problem is that it doesn't really let you solve much. Instant wabang. There it is.
  10. Bite Me chapter 1, is my first full album. It has 11 songs, together telling the first chapter of my game BiteMe!Storymode.

The cover is made with AI (Gemini) and edited by me.
The lyrics are written by me.
The music is made by AI (Suno).

The album, is released officially on July 4th, and will be available on alllarge streaming services (31 stores in total!!) including spotify, ituned, apple music, youtube music, deezer and many, many more.

  11. Here is an album preview for my concept album.

All full songs tell a scene in the story, this album is only chapter 1, there is to be more.

(Liking and subscribing really helps... Hint hint.)
  12. I have to confess about something before the forum goes down.
I have used generative AI for my game.

To be more specific, I have used generative AI in my game to do three things:

    1. Assisting me in the alteration of a few of the 300+ scripts I use.
For what it was worth, I did check if the generated code is correct, as I am still in the process of learning a programming language for the first time in my life. Many script edits I've made in my game are edited by me and me only, and generative AI, specifically Gemini, was used during early June for fixing a few bugs I've encountered during testing, as well as adding a feature or two.
I tested Gemini's scripting multiple times to see if they work, sometimes they don't and I discarded them, other times they do work, and occasionally I add something on top of it.

    2. Brainstorm ideas for my game's story.
Yeah, I thought I started Adam Satan with a strong enough hook, basically SMT with an attractive transmasculine main character, but I was easily stuck during the writing process, as I wasn't sure about what direction to take for my story.
Long, loooong story short: I initially went for an extremely dark tone, but months of rewrites toned down the cruelty my protagonist would receive by quite a bit. Chatting with Gemini and Grok also solidified the themes of my games, narrowing my demon roster to those from grimoires such as the Ars Goetia and adding an alchemical theme to my combat stats and skills.

    3. Brainstorm character design ideas
My game has no directly AI-generated assets. The sprites are by me using Aseprite, the non-RTP animations are bought from an artist hat doesn't use AI, and the text fonts aren't AI-made either.
When I use AI, mainly Gemini and later Yodayo, to create characters wearing specific outfits, it is not for the sake of slapping an AI picture as an asset and call it a day. Instead, it is used to help me design character sprites.
This is what I generate on Yodayo (mildly NSFW)

    The following sprites are not:
    Adam Wedding Suit.pngAdam Wedding Suit_walk.pngAdam Wedding Suit_dash.png
These sprites of my character's idle, walking, and running animations are entirely drown by me, using AI pictures I prompted into existence as a basis. The prompt itself is made up of a combination of elements that are floating inside my head, no AI told me: "Combine a white suit jacket with a green carnation and lingerie". I was the one who wanted a white tux top, green carnation, and lingerie combined! Happy Pride Month, BTW!

My question is: in which RPG Maker-related forums and websites could I discuss my game?
Does rpgmaker.net's zero tolerance policy towards AI apply to this context?
What are other forums where any use of generative AI is frowned upon, if not ban-worthy?
And what are RPG Maker-related places where generative AI is acceptable as long as its use is disclosed?
  13. @Banana_Duck I wish I could answer your questions, but I am still exploring alternative options myself. I think generally it is a mixed bag with lots of very vocal people hating on the use of AI, even though it is just a tool. Others are ambivalent, others happily use AI, and I think many others use AI and just won't admit it. And there are many people who use different types of AI without even knowing it.

And to be fair, this forum didn't prohibit referencing the use of AI just like it clearly doesn't prohibit people bashing AI whenever they feel like it. The restriction was on sharing AI generated resources. You could share a game that is made with the assistance of AI, but you had to be transparent about that. And AI generated resources or content could only be shared in one specific thread.

I think the more unfortunate thing with this forum and probably any place else you go is the fact that someone feels like they can't share their opinion about AI openly and honestly because of how other people will react. That speaks volumes about the environment and tolerance of the community.

If you bash AI, you're generally fine. Support AI, and you can get pounced on and the ramifications are long lasting.

I finally got to the point where I just try to keep my mouth shut and do what I think is best and what makes me happy, ignoring the passing digs and derogatory comments. I use AI as the incredible tool that it is and I no longer care about what everyone else thinks.

Just like I don't care about the opinions of people who think that everything made with RPG Maker is slop and shovel ware and that people who use RPG Maker are just lazy. Why would I care about the opinions of the uninformed?

Haters are going to hate, no matter what you do.

The arguments against AI as a new technology aren't groundbreaking and new. This happens with all new advancements in technology with the most vocal people being those with a personal stake in the issue, those personally impacted, and (to a lesser extent) those concerned about broader environmental impact. But let's be honest, there are very few true environmental eco-warriors who go all in on that front. Most people who raise environmental concerns about something tend to completely disregard thousands of other examples of environmental issues that are just as bad or worse.

Regardless, it is what it is.

Personally, I plan on checking out different communities and I will approach my participation the same way I ended up being here. I will be very careful about what I talk about while doing what I think is best without concern for anyone else's approval. If I do share something that is AI related or assisted, I will be transparent about it.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck in the future. Take care and remember to enjoy what you do.

I don't have that strong a reaction about AI, but I think this "it's just a tool" is completely disingenuous. And can't really take it seriously when a lot of heavy AI users like to push that.

A thing that allows you to with very little effort prompt into existence about anything you want using sentences that have spelling errors and grammar errors is completely different from let's say a lighting plugin.
  15. @Banana_Duck Your best bet is the new RPG Maker Guild. But it's too small and who knows how long it would last.
    • RMN will ban you.
    • The RPG Maker subreddit allows AI but any AI-related post immediately gets downvoted to zero.
    • Understandably creatives aren't very fond of AI so most game development channels or websites so far will likely give you a hostile reception.
@rpgLord69 Don't be surprised if people in the future get worse spelling and grammar than Gollum.
  16. Mmm they'll sit in front of their screen petting the AIs like "myy preciousss"
  17. Funny topic! I don't think creating yet another "plugin pile" or "asset" with AI is a way to go. And I would not even consider that sharing AI created stuff, because AI only fiddles around with code that's already there and it does - not even need - a specific plugin to analyze. The game-dev world is full of examples. You can crawl them, build up from it and - that - would be a real creation process. But that is not AI doing it. AI only gathers and is unable to "create out of nothingness". It needs an idea and a sane approach behind it. That's why every prompt becomes important and should be well written logically.
One prompt cannot get you to something really useful or even usable. Except your next solo destination plugin or similar funny stuff to fool around with.

I'd rather ask "how something could be done" to learn something about asset creation, coding, math or a project path. That's way faster, because you get information that is clean. AI is still not ready to fully code in one to ten go's when it comes to complexity.
Still, in the end, maybe in one or two years, most people will prompt instead of google searching stuff and sure, the beginning of the coding aera with prompts is on its way. Image generation is easy compared to that direction, because you can simply describe what you see. You cannot do that with code or project oriented stuff. That has to build up like lego and takes a lot of time.

Ever created a - natural pond system - with AI?! Interesting project... I can tell!
