I feel like it would be unfair to vote for myself. :p

@Ms Littlefish when does player's choice voting end? Tomorrow? :kaoswt:

I feel like it would be unfair to vote for myself. :p
-
I'll be honest-I'm exhausted from this game jam. I had to pull several long nights with only a few hours of sleep and don't feel like playing through 31 other games, and I cant vote in good conscience for the best if I don't actually play all of them.
-
Yeah, don't feel bad about voting even if you haven't played them all. Otherwise, it kinda defeats the purpose of the vote.
-
No, I just won't vote. I'm really not in the mood to play even half of them. I just want to take a break from it and go back to working on my main gameYeah, don't feel bad about voting even if you haven't played them all. Otherwise, it kinda defeats the purpose of the vote.

No one needs to worry about such things. It's absolutely not a requirement to vote. Simply a more-the-merrier ordeal. I think we all understand being tired right now!
-
Fair, fair, I stand corrected.
-
Just updated my game to fix the bug where the turn order display would be shown when it wasn't supposed to be... hopefully there are no more bugs :kaoswt2:
How else are we supposed to make an informed decision?Yeah, don't feel bad about voting even if you haven't played them all. Otherwise, it kinda defeats the purpose of the vote. -

How else are we supposed to make an informed decision?
Christopher advised AphoticAmaranth that the optimal way to make an informed decision was to vote for The Worst Noel.
His egregious pandering voted 5 naughty points into his total.
(And yes I will absolutely record the voice line for this when I get home) -
There are 32-34 entrees. It was extremely hard to chose just one game from that list. There were also games that, as mentioned, just crashed for me. So my decision might not have been "informed". In fact, it's just my opinion. Completely subjective.
You don't have to vote. Obviously, it's not like I'm going to be offended or anything, I'm just saying, your vote is not going to hurt. -
I finished playing all the games I could yesterday and still have to upload the remaining videos and leave feedback. I hope to be done today. I had no idea rendering videos and uploading to YouTube would take so long on my potato er, computer. I'll post a link to the Playlist here when I'm done.

@Trihan I just watched my first Steam (yours) and it was cool! I liked watching you play the games.
And you found a bug that I missed. At the end, after you won (I didn't have time to actually make a WIN ending so I improvised), you temporarily got the text about continuing after the name debacle thing. That isn't supposed to happen. But then it went to the text about continuing after you finish the game and gives you the mini game, credits, and Exit option so that was good.
And to answer your question, the test was just something I came up with to make (maybe not so funny jokes) about the little things about the judges in the original post. The orange pencil, the espresso, the cheddar popcorn, blondes, puzzles, etc. So I came up with the questions and the naughty or nice list certificate. I thought it would be neat to try to put the Avatar and Name on the certificates, just to see if I could. Forgetting that I had 18 possible Avatars.
Answering the questions differently just gives you different text responses and if you are more nice than naughty, you get a nice certificate before it is taken away with accusations that you answered the way you thought you should instead of honestly. Same with if your naughty and nice score is tied. Then it is no certificate, disbelief, and then the naughty certificate.
So everyone ends up getting a naughty certificate.
There are a lot of little things I wanted to add, but ran out of time.
Anyway, thanks for playing through the Full Version and I really enjoyed watching the other games.
Very cool. And you saved me some time. I had only played 2 of those games. The rest I hadn't seen yet.
Now back to playing as many more as I can. -
I've done about half of the entries at this point, and I thought I would go ahead and share thoughts on what I've played so far, especially given how much space this may take. Sorry that some will be pretty short, and some were downloaded a couple of days ago, in case I missed an update.
A Christmas Wish (CCCreations)I really like the look of this, a lot of unique character and map art.
Sadly, leaving this as just a browser game doesn’t work well, as it keeps freezing up a couple of minutes into playing. I realize this isn’t your fault though.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to reference Mr. Tumnus than Lewis himself?
Christmas-themed ‘swear’ words are pretty funny.
Bring Back Christmas (ShadowDragon)While I understand what you were going for, and it was certainly creative to attempt to make a platformer with the RPGMaker system. Sadly, like some have already said, it ends up feeling very clunky and unwieldy. It feels like you wanted a fast-paced, split-second precision platforming, but RPGMaker just isn’t capable of that kind of responsiveness. While I’m sure it can be done with enough tries, I dropped out of it pretty quickly.
The first time I tried it, it froze after picking up the friend in the second level. Trying it a second time, it worked, so I’m not sure what happened exactly.
ChristmasCatastrophe (AphoticAmaranth)A short, fun game. Cutting the maps from the game is something, but it let you have more time for a straightforward but fun combat. Trimming down the options does make them all usable and feel more important. The Final boss fight was actually fairly difficult, but I got the bad ending, not sure what the choice was supposed to be. Tried not attacking the boss, but nothing happened, not sure if there was something else.
Some fun references in here, though I’m sure I didn’t catch all of them. Music for the final boss was nice.
Alone/The blind shall see (Tridium)A nice little story. Cozy, perhaps, though also fairly simple and predictable. Well executed none-the-less.
Art was nice, and the music really helped the feel of the story, it’s probably the thing I liked most.
I found the ice puzzle to be very frustrating and unclear, I ended up just saving every step or two.
Harold’s Christmas Adventure (Izzy MS)A short and simple thing, a couple of jokes and, I guess a puzzle? The character art was different, but nice. The beginning and ending music were nice as well. Not sure what else to say about it.
Toy Maker (Lunar Spire)This was unexpected, this would be called a harvesting sim, I guess? Not usually my kind of thing, but I enjoyed it enough to finish the normal mode. The harvesting moved at a good pace and I felt like I could get to another place/upgrade in decent enough time that I didn’t get bored of it. Would have been happy to have a little more to explore and do, but for twenty minutes it was good. Some nice music choices as well.
John’s Christmas Party (JohnDoeNews)I have to admit I didn’t expect to see a playable, well, you called it a Christmas Card, and I see why. It’s charming to be sure, though I guess I as someone who hasn’t really gotten integrated into this community, I’m sure there are things lost one me.
“Here lies shame” got a chuckle out of me though.
Bright Spark of Christmas (Nowis-337)A fun little puzzle game, with some creative elements to make Santa’s factory slightly maze like. I think it could have used another room or two, but understand that the intent was to keep it short. Funny little misunderstanding at the end.
Heroes of the Season Demo (Starmage)This one has a pretty fun twist to the standard RPGM combat, very fast-paced as well, which helps lend to the idea of replaying with the different characters. Pretty fun, and honestly think it would be fun to see the choices filled out later.
A Christmas Harold (TSR)It’s pretty straightforward, having an old, arcade kind of feel to it. Okay challenge, okay controls, decent music choice. Not much else to say.
Cringles in Chaos (Slaughty)Really enjoyed this one. Very basic story, but the combat system was very nice, always happy to see something of the Chrono Trigger like system. Was a decent challenge without being too much trouble. Some nice music choices made the last couple of fights feel good.
One Last Bread (Ilmania)This was a very different tone than expected. Rather gloomy and serious, and even feeling intense, I ended up caring more than I would have thought I would in such a small game. Enough so that I was worried about how it would end. I appreciated the more puzzle focused direction of the gameplay, and that it ended with a good section than combined multiple previous elements. (I do feel the cannon section was a bit much though). The end did raise some questions for me though, as I’m uncertain what the last scene was supposed to be, did you have to cut it down for time?
Where is Santa? (r66r)Was not expecting a “Where’s Waldo” but this was fun. The scene was very well put together, and in my opinion just the right size to make the challenge good without being a slog like some the picture hunts I remember from my younger days. The occasional sound effect was a nice touch, and I liked listening to that instrumental of a song I already like quite a bit.
Betty and Inka’s Authentic Christmas Sauna (alice gristle)A neat little story, with some unique touches that kept it interesting. It might mean more to me if I knew much about Finland . . . but there was still some humor I can appreciate and some nice music.
I like that you had some unique dialogue when backing out of, and returning to, the fights, since I did that the first time when they didn’t fight back.
Life-Arctic (BerryB)Something very unique. Didn’t expect a clicker game, but here one is. Some nice custom art, and relying entirely on the art for the story is interesting, though I am definitely hazy on what the plot is (something with magic and corruption at least), but if that was the intent, nothing wrong with that. I liked that the last two ‘fights’ put a spin on the clicker gameplay, which is something I haven’t seen before, and also had some very nice music.
Santa Saves Ralph (Corlagon)Simple and funny story. More of puzzles than fights, but basic idea of the story was amusing enough and it got a couple of laughs out of me. Not sure what else to say.
The Yuletide Raccoon (NekoCassowary)A fun little thing. Some nice music, a quick puzzle, a handful of jokes, and a few fights that aren’t really fights were nice. I did end up briefly wondering if Sonata would soft lock, but it ended up fine. Also, just the idea of a Christmas Raccoon is funny by itself.
I'll work my way through the rest today and tomorrow, hopefully.
If I said something that doesn't make sense, well, I'm an idiot so you can just ignore me. -
Ah yes, the infamous ice pond puzzle. I think some tweaks to the audio design would have helped. That and some way to tell which unsafe tiles you had already stepped on.

Thank you for playing and I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the entries! <3 Speaking of filling out the choices in my game, a full version is indeed in the works that'll make it happen. :ywink:This one has a pretty fun twist to the standard RPGM combat, very fast-paced as well, which helps lend to the idea of replaying with the different characters. Pretty fun, and honestly think it would be fun to see the choices filled out later.

@MoztheTiger I know you did update the font in a later version. I did have to play the deadline version for judging purposes and I don't know if the new font would lessen the impact but...would you consider putting a warning for neurological disorders on your game?
I was OK with the font until it turned red in that all red room. There are thankfully four other judges but I was physically unable to play the game after that point. Sorry. -
Hey, wonderful job everyone! Making games is hard, making a game in a short amount of time under multiple constraints is even harder. The experience of releasing a game out into the wild and going though the whole process is a learning experience that can't be replaced by tutorials and reading articles/blog posts about it, I believe it's a process one must live through. I've done a few a jams and each time it gets easier and easier, so don't get discouraged! Game development is an iterative process and with each game, whether it is a buggy mess or a polished brick of gold, valuable knowledge is gained through the experience. Just like the protagonist(s) in your games, take your licks, keep fighting, keep leveling up, and never give up! Don't take any feedback as negative because most people here only want to see you grow and make the best games you can.
Huge thanks to the judges: Ms Littlefish, hiddenone, Dalph, bgillisp, and extra thank you to Testosterone for organizing and hosting the jam.

Sleigh the Competition Entries
I think I missed 4 games, my own, Cringles in Chaos (because that's just weird to Let's Play your own game), and two others due to frame rate issues while recording which I still left feedback for them on their itch pages and one that crashed after the title screen. Let me know if I missed any others and I'll do my best to either replay it or upload it if I already have the video. With so many entries it became hard for me to stay organized.
You are all incredibly talented developers in my book and it was wonderful to see so many different and creative games!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and have a Happy New Year!
PS. Don't forget to vote for your favorites -
I most likely wont participate in future game jams. It wasn't worth the stress and lost sleep. Sorry, it's just how I feel
