Event - Sleigh the Competition! 2023 Christmas Game Jam

Let's spice up the holiday season!

Your challenge, should you accept, it is to make a short Christmas-themed game in any Maker engine sold in the Komodo store. The game is meant to be short, so don't overdo it with the plugins and the systems! The point of the contest is to finish something short, fun, and ~sweet~ just in time for Christmas.

NOTE: This event is graciously hosted by Wind Ryder dev, @TESTOSTERONE and is being overseen by myself (Ms Littlefish) and a few of the other RMW moderators (@hiddenone and @bgillisp ). I (Ms Littlefish) will be holding on to the prize pool until winners are announced.



You may begin working on your projects once this announcement has been made public.

• Submission Dates: Dec. 14th - Dec. 21st, 11:59PM EST (Dec 22nd 4:59AM UTC)
• Winners announced: Dec. 24th!

• Your project must be 20 minutes or less of gameplay for the average play through.
• You may team up with someone else (but the prize pool is for the entire team).
• Open to any Makers published in the Komodo store.
• You must have the rights to all materials used.

    • Does it make players excited for Christmas?
  • Creativity
    • How well do you use the theme to make an interesting game?
  • Visuals
    • Are the graphics used well?
  • Gameplay
    • Is it fun to play? Does it work well with the story?

I have but one complaint.
And, this is an honest question. Why no VX Ace/Older engines?

But, doesn't matter, I'd be doing it on MZ, I was just curious.

Maybe @TESTOSTERONE would like to elaborate on that a bit more since that was his inclusion?
I’m in no way against opening it up and revising if agreed.

Twist my arm, fine, we can include ACE. But remember, MV and MZ have wide screen support. Those are some easy brownie points to score.

JK, as mentioned, I was gonna use MZ anyway, cause I need some audio related stuff. I just wanted to make sure no one got the short straw cause they didn't upgrade.

In 2015 I made a game about children searching for their lost father (in the snowy mountain).
One of the cutscene is the children literally riding sleigh.
Sadly the data was lost. : /

It can be recreated though, but I dunno.

I have a good idea for a Christmas themed game. The challenge is getting it done as I'm a chronic procrastinator.

First time i'm participating for sure, now... who's gonna be in this little adventure (that of course will be using LMBS, nothing can go wrong with that... right?... right?)

Does stuff like a short intro or ending credits scene count towards the 20 min game play?

How strict is the sub 20 minute rule? Like, if we go over a couple of minutes is it a DQ? Or is it "eh, close enough?"

20 minutes of gameplay for the average play through. So, if I’m a hyper confused dill weed, that won’t penalize you. And…I kinda doubt I’mma dead ass be sitting here with an egg timer but I’d say do not fudge it too much. :kaoswt:

I understand a month is tough, but all the more reason to challenge yourself to making effective and concise scenes too…less eventing!

Yeah, plus, depending on the person, play times could be different.
For example, if you're a potato like, simple things like talking to an NPC could take a half an hour.

This is such a nice idea!

So for my submission I was thinking of recycling hard minigames from my demo projects and having AI generated sexy elves insult you when you fail at them.
