Event - Sleigh the Competition! 2023 Christmas Game Jam

Oh, I am. I was saying to JohnDoeNews that if the submission date were today I'd have nothing to submit. :p

I'm gonna make a separate thread for submissions because we've had, uh, 15 pages of fun so far.

This is so AWESOME! I finally feel like I know enough and I am motivated enough to participate. I will have something by the deadline. Which is inherently better than nothing.

I saw comments about hating mapping, which is one of my weak spots too. Do I get bonus points if I don't have ANY maps in my game? Yes, my game concept will be a complete game/story without a single, traditional map. Mwah ha ha! MAPS!

Is there a lower limit on the blondus points? Meaning my game is about Krampus and children so any blondes are likely to be kids. They are still cutish, right? When they aren't being, you know, typical children.

I think I have also figured out how to incorporate some of the other funny, trolling, judgey things that I failed to notice before. Now the question is just whether I include them subtly or bludgeon the judges with them like a sledgehammer.

But how are you coming along, you say? Well, I am maybe a quarter of the way through my 20 minute Intro. Just kidding. Maybe.

I heard the game play timer doesn't start until the Intro is over. Yeah, I definitely heard that. And if I had editing capabilities, some previous post would say exactly that too.

Anyway, I am having a blast working on this Game Jam project. I know that I am going to run out of time and it won't be what I truly envision, but as long as it is end-to-end and playable, that will be a starting point.

I cant map, but the simple way to get a badge, create a map with 1 NPC,
talk to it, and you beat it under 20min :D

or press OK when EXACTLY 15min has passed by and press OK,
if you succeed, you win, else you lose.

@alice_gristle Yeah, I already know that music/sound is going to be the very last thing I do for the Game Jam. I play almost all games with the sound either turned down very low or completely off. Just because I am usually playing where I don't want to bother my wife.

So music and sound are the last things I really pay attention to in games (G*A*S*P - I know). HEATHEN! Get the pitchforks and torches!

I started looking for some new sound assets that might fit my game, but it will all depend on what time I have left. It just might be a do-after-the-game-jam-is-over thing on my list.

Nah, sound being one of the last things is actually not odd at all. Getting the correct feel really depends on a lot of the actual game existing.

As a free idea to all my Game Jam friends...if you have combat...imagine a Boss Battle with a certain lovable, patience of a Saint, Mod who swings a fish and shoots blue text at the player for double damage. Especially if you use the same combat move twice in a row.

Your special combo attack could be Espresso (opps...buffs the boss), Cheddar Popcorn (opps...buffs the boss again), and then combo Cheddar Popcorn Espresso for massive debuff and damage.

Just saying. Judges as bosses in the combat could be fun.

It doesn't fit in with my theme, but it sounds funny. At least to me.

Oh... I meant the date we can start submitting, not the day submissions close. :p

Though given how amazing my concept is, you're gonna need that extra time for polish. ;)

TBH, my original idea was to have a game where the screen was black (you were blind) and you had to use sound to navigate. I gave up on it after a while.

Guess I should eliminate everything then :kaojoy:

My wife specifically made several characters blonde just for you, even ones she didn't originally intend to be.
