So, correct me, but if he even can't give full credits, how can he be sure that his work is allowed to be used commercial?

(and also he is crediting BenBen, and well, BenBen definitly has no proper credits)

Most of hyper snakes tiles are not complete or fully functional any way.  I will prob contact Ben Ben and see what he says.

Just noticed this thread, and I'll be sure to look over everything I got from Japanese sites and German sites, make sure it doesn't match up with the stuff listed here.

ok, I got a question, at what point is a piece of art too much like to original to be used. If say I took a character I liked from another game and made one myself that looks pretty similar but not exactly the same. Is it ok to use or is that bad. Also I made a slime mob the other day and posted it on another site and someone told me it looked exactly like one from terraria (sp?) never played it but I tend to believe them and once I looked it up it did look a lot like it, which was not intentional at all but at that point I could see some one thinking that I may have stole it from that game. I just want to play on the safe side of things and make usable stuff.

You're slime is fine.  It's hard to do a slime in an original way, they're just gelatinous blobs and they've been done to death.  Just don't try to copy an existing style and you don't really have to worry, even if it accidentally looks like something.  If you want to make something look more original give yourself a wider base of inspiration.

That 'Bigset' always annoyed me, everyone praising it and using it as if it was no ripped.

Hanzo got them from BenBen and that's how far I have gotten.

They look too good compared to the general RPG maker art made by people.

Especially for 'free'

On another site it states they belong to Alisa_Tana.

But later I read that these specific trees are not from there.

I saw a lot of First seed resources that were 'oke for commercial usage' . but later  I saw similar resources around here were it was stated they are not for commercial use.

Next to that when some one says 'not for commercial use' you need to know the source material.

Contacting you shouldn't be required unless you made it from scratch.


Another issue I noticed is that some artists basically redraw something from XP and charge you for commercial use.

Isn't this questionable on it's own?

It's in general hard to trace down.

Especially when people edit parts from copy righter material.

The short answer:

Don't use either Hanzo or BenBen. BenBen has made some things on his own, but you can never say which, some are clearly Tana, ccoa or Studio pickle or ripped, a lot are unknown, could be by him,  ripped or by another artist. The only one who could tell us which is which is BenBen himself, but there is just no clear statement.

Hanzo Kimura also doesn't want people keep using his sets - they violate Terms of various artists since they contain their work without permission to repost (Tana e.g. doesn't want people to repost her work or edits of them) and even some rips.

So please just search for sources with clear terms and no violations.

First Seed (Mack) terms are linked in slim's translated Terms of usage, a pinned topic in this section.

Do you have an example what you mean with redrawing from xp-rtp?

Tana has, however, got all her stuff which can be used on her deviantart thread, in a zip file, which is where I got it from.  Unfortunately I can't find the link just at the moment, but perhaps Avery or someone else will know of it.

Hi! 
Long time lurker first time poster!

I know that Hanzo resources have been pretty much blacklisted across the board - but I think I may have found an exception?  I believe these cave tiles were edited strictly from the XP RTP - which would mean that they still fall under Enterbrain copyright right? - I own RPG Maker VX Ace and XP.  I emailed Hanzo for his permission as well - but do I really need it if these are edits are ripped from RTP?

Everything here(***see correction below) is from XP RTP 044-cave02, except the decor on the red walls - bottom right ( the green bush thing and the mushrooms: the bush and the red mushroom are Mack. No credits yet on the purple mushroom.) (I should have said this applies to the third sheet. My error.)


I think it may be better to post stuff like this as a request in the resource requests, (see below) but it is a little cloudy, since it has been kind of "called out" as a blacklist item, and you are also kind of asking to redeem it from that status. I totally understand why you posted here. I do not think it would be called a rip, but an RTP edit if it is all XP RTP.


I am interested to know how the mods and Avery will want to hanlde stuff like this.(when she is better - she is sick, poor dear.) and see how to best address this kind of question.

edit - I guess you already knew the tileset?? At first read I thought you were asking which one. Anyways, thanks for bringing this up! FWIW the Object_Rocks are just XP RTP edits, too. But I know hanzo is very concerned to make a fresh start and does not want any poorly credited material to be used, and would rather everything be forgotten than to have trouble.

I had only checked the third tilesheet - in the next post, Lunarea correctly pointed out differences in the others which I overlooked.

It's not exclusively XP.

For example, the blue crystal in the 1st (brown) cave is from the FSM/Mack tiles, and same goes for the gray ledge. :)

In other words, dodgy credit, shouldn't use.

This blacklist is really an FYI thing.  We moderators can only encourage people to give proper credit and not rip, but other than not allowing people to post rips and uncredited edits and banning the blatant offenders and removing the problems that we know about there's not much we can or should do beyond that.  It's up to the users to make sure that the stuff they find is good to use and used properly, we can only help that along, we can't guarantee it.  Hope that answers your question, Granny.

I don't care if rips are used, they shouldn't be posted to X site "if the site owner just says do not post game rips".   

Ugh, this thread just confirmed the big icon set for me. After reading this thread over it seems to have pulled one over on a lot of people other than just me. Also purged some Hanzo stuff from my reserves and came across some examples from this thread.

In my early days of starting to use RM I was grabbing materials left and right for inspiration and ended up with a lot of them that I have no clue where they came from or what their terms are, not sure how to proceed with them from here other than wiping everything I'm not sure about (been smart enough to have some forethought and keep track of things in more recent history), but wonder if sifting through and tracking everything down isn't possible since there isn't too much stuff in the "unknown" pile. Great wealth of Do Not Use materials here. This thread saved me a little trouble already.

If there is something that you really, really want to use, you could try a google image search.  If that doesn't turn up anything, you could post in the Resource Request forum, asking if anyone recognises it.  Obviously there is a limit to the number of items you can ask people to identify for you, but one every now and then should be fine.

BenBen and Hanzo's Credits are and will be shady, and as said: Hanzo doesn't feel comfortable with the set because of this.

Shady credits, (in BenBen's case even worse because many of the original artists like ccoa or venetia are gone and can't confirm anything), an artist that doesn't want people keep using it - no, for every part. And I on my own won't help with those sets because of excatly this.

To the icon thing:

In my signature is a link to my icons. Without any overacting, this is the largest legal source of RTP matching icons. You can even find modular sets there (and only there x3). And there is an icon list by Granny, also legal sources and many good icons there. I'd just suggest to go through all those sets and see if you are even missing anything after that. Just make sure you keep track of the terms and credits.

Another thing to look for is anything referencing Samurai (VX).

Still many directly reposting direct versions, bonus material for preordering, or 'minor edits' which you still need to own samurai pack to use.

And add beware what people release on steam hub. Pirated property still gets through in a few of the releases. Some Im seeing people release pirated scripts and content as steam hub games.
