  1. @csevans84 That looks so great!!
  2. A few more tweaks but it’s almost ready. IMG_0408.png
  3. Here's KBattlerEasts XP's very first snapshot!

  4. @Qed963 Beautiful! I love the attention to detail! I think that anything people point out here are things that most players would never notice in a game. Awesome work!

@fop Beautiful as well. Just one thing that stood out. There seems to be an inconsistency with the window lighting. In the main room with the Christmas tree the light is coming from the top of the map. But in the room in the lower right corner, with the (sad?) person on the bed, it seems like maybe the light is coming from a window in the bottom of the map. But I could be wrong.

I only hope that my maps can be even half as good as these.

    Thanks for sharing!
  5. It was nice to make a scene that's a bit more warm and fuzzy. I think I stumbled across a combination of colors I really liked and knew I needed to stop tweaking immediately before I ruined it. :guffaw:

  6. @thepsyche Looks like beautiful fall colors!
  7. @ZombieKidzRule You're right! I just sort of have light coming in... all the windows. I know it's wrong, I know it's gonna bother some people, but I just... do it anyway. :hswt:
Heh. I've done lighting wrong for so long that it would be a nightmare to start doing it right (I'm at around 250 maps in this game, so it's just gonna have to have crazy lighting tbh). Thank you so much for the comment, though!

@thepsyche Gorgeous! I love the way you do the ground textures.
  8. Just passing by, nothing to see here.

  9. @kyonides Neat idea, clearly presented in a clean design. So many good ideas are obscured by fussy detailing of the image that it's a pleasure to see something like this.

My first snapshot. :kaohi: Made in RPG Maker MV, hopefully if I finish this game in time I'll be able to submit it to this Christmas Themed RPG Maker Horror jam I found on itch.:kaojoy:
  11. @fop Oh, believe me. It doesn't bother me at all. I wouldn't even notice something like that while playing a game. I am too focused on what is going on. I don't ever recall just sitting in a game and staring at a map to see if I can spot anything out of place. Unless it is a clue to something I need to find or do.

I think people offer more feedback in this thread because they actually take the time to scrutinize the maps to offer constructive help and zoom in too.

I would rather have a beautiful interior like yours with light shining in from every side, over and under, than a bland, lifeless room.

10/10 Would definitely enjoy your visuals in a game.
  12. I posted this on my profile, but someone suggested I post it here. What are some things that pop out at you immediately?
  13. @SorbetInAPie The tiles themselves are fine. My query concerned the general mapping.

Look at the size ratios of the rooms. Your bathroom has more floor space than your living area. Your bedroom is also oversized. This has left you with the problem of a lot of empty space. You could easily reduce it by one tile's width, maybe even two.

Why does the bedroom not have a window? It would make the place rather dark and a bit depressing to have a completely lightless room.

The placement of the couch seems very strange. Normally it would be facing something, but here it just feels like it's been plonked down arbitrarily. You are missing something which could serve as a wardrobe. Whatever the piece of furniture on the side wall of the bedroom is, it's too narrow to be that. So where does Jimmy hang his clothes?

Who keeps a broken pot in a kitchen/dining room? Would anyone in a modern setting like this one be keeping things in pots of that style anyway? It feels like they are there in order to fill up some of the space. Perhaps a coat stand instead? Something that would help give the feeling that this is a place which is lived in. At the moment it feels somewhat sterile.

Having said the tiles are fine, the colour of the floor tiles in the corridor hurts my eyes. I personally find it too bright and garish and would hate to have to face it with a headache, let alone a hangover.

Surely, the color of the floor immediately attracts my attention towards him. The colors of the room are very cold and mild, while those of the corridor are very warm. The large difference in color between the two settings is notable.
  15. @CatChat 4/5 for the retro style and -1/5 for Christmas Horror theme :p Don't ever become an evil grinch!

Yeah, the total number of turns gets increased every time you exceed a certain units per turn limit.

Wow that all looks great! Bigger than any maps I ever designed.

Thanks for all the advice! There is a legitimate reason some of the things are there, but you're absolutely right about the couch, and I'll see what I can do to make the bedroom a bit more lived in, like a window and closet as you said.
As for the setting, it's complicated... It's not exactly a modern world; I'm doing a mashup of medieval and modern for comedic purposes (It'll make more sense when the game is out, so let's just say that the pots have an aesthetic reason for being there), so it doesn't exactly have to be consistent. I will also try to fix the rug, but I'm working with a limited color pallet, so I'll see if I can retain that orange look.
As for the "sterile" look of the place, I'll try to improve that, but Jimmy himself is a character that you wouldn't expect to stay in his apartment for too long, since he's in a more "economic" position in life (I'm implying a kind of elitist minimalism here I suppose, it's not something I've thought about a lot).
Again, thanks for the advice, it really did make me think critically about some things!

  19. @fiddleling I sense Dark Souls vibes!:kaoluv: I like the middle map, it has a very nice mood and the level of detail is just right! :wub
  20. Hi Everyone, I wanted to know your opinion on my game screen view. Is it better zoom in 20% to get closer look or better default?
