Dear Santa... Resource Suggestions and Wishes (for advent and more?)

Hello folks!

For now around ten years, I make a resource advent calendar for the maker community, filled with various fun resources and a lot of amazing people have chimed in in the last years!

Now the whole point of such an calendar is to make the dark time of the year brighter and to bring the joy that we hopefully all can connect to this festive season. And while some of the other people and I tend to ask for your wishes and suggestions in our profile posts and resource threads, I thought it might be more fruitful to create a thread for them so they are kinda collected in one place, easier accessible for you guys and to accumulate inspirations and ideas?

So what is okay?
Virtually anything you would love to see - just maybe consider that more doable stuff is more likely to be done ;D

Maybe you have some reference images of certain things you would love to see in tileform or you just wished for a certain type of characters or icons or...

Just be aware that this is a place where you can drop inspiration and wishes, not the place to demand something or a place where you are super likely to get what you want. Basically treat it like a letter to Santa and hope for the best ;D

I'm going to repeat here what I posted in Profile Posts the other day so that it's in the right place.

It would be lovely to have a rowing boat (or similar) that was bigger than the tiny overworld 'vehicle' version, something that could realistically be moored at a jetty. Slight variations with perhaps a crate or two of fish, or sealed crates with some other cargo.

A painting on the wall is not appropriate for every setting, so perhaps some mounted trophies. PandaMaru did a couple several years ago for VXAce.


I personally have only ever seen wine glasses and glass tankards for beer. (That could just be me missing the obvious.) It would be nice to have some wooden tankards for less wealthy settings (then I could replace the ones I have made with something which I'm sure will be much better looking).

Again thinking of poorer or more rural settings, a kitchen sink made of stone would be a great addition to the standard metal one. Nekura did one some years ago, but it's for VXAce so the sizing is off.

Sideways beds. It would really help mapping if one didn't have to use the same orientation no matter what the room was like.

Is there anything specific we talk abou bed wise?
I made 4-dir versions for most of the MZ beds 2020 #1 #2 and whtdragon did the same for MV.
Not trying to talk you out anything, I just want to see what you specifically have in mind :)

It's really beds that aren't default, at least to some extent. Quilted covers instead of single piece of cloth; with or without a footboard; maybe an indication of a difference about the headboard. That sort of thing. I think (and this is, obviously, just my opinion) that some of the gripe about RTP is that the same thing turns up in wildly different settings. Apart from a few palace-type things, other household stuff tends to be very similar in the home of a merchant to that of a farmer, or brigand, or whatever. This is part of the reason why I mentioned poorer settings in my first post. That, I believe, helps to bring a world alive.

I'm thinking of things like fewer fantasy windowskins and more battlebacks.

For some reason, I can't think of all the things I had trouble finding for my maps at the moment. XD Anything modern would be super regardless.

My request would be for more behaviour sets for NPCs, similar to your knight captain closing his visor and the grandma behaviours. They go a long way to livening up the people on the maps. Some potential ideas:
- Guards saluting
- Villagers raking/tilling/sweeping
- Villagers gardening/watering plants
- Villagers fishing
- Tavern-folk playing instruments like the lute

I'm gonna aim to also do an advent release this year, so this thread will be quite useful for collecting sprite ideas. :rheh:

I would love to have 4-directional versions of the sci-fi RTP chests, as far as I know, there are only fantasy 4-directional chests. (I’m talking about MZ’s RTP)

Really need a single character sheet of the A-Team in action.
I swear I will bloat my game's scope just to add an A-team Easter egg quest into it.

I am a big fan of your work. While chibis are good and all, this Christmas, I am asking if you could please make some behavior sets for taller characters, such as these for example.

Perhaps I could go for an improvement on MZ's grass maze caves and crystal caves, especially for the wall autotiles.

I've thought of more things for poorer locations, if I could mention them.

Bunk beds - Mack had one which fitted well into this sort of setting, but I personally haven't seen any for MZ (though I'm sure they must exist somewhere).
Windows that sag a bit - not wrecked, like you'd find in a ruin, but in need of some repair.

I also have bunk beds, but you probably envision something that is rather built to save space in very small houses for poor families?

Is there anything on what the RTP is missing that you'd really love to see?

Is there anything the older makers like Ace or XP had, that you wished to see for the more recent ones? That can include user made stuff, like, say, "I loved xy that Maru had made for Ace" or "Man, Euphony's YZ was so cool!".

...anyways, more wishes would be cool ;D I know the title is christmas themed and that is quite far out, but if we wanna finish in time, now is a good time to work on it^^

A static battler of a trilobyte that goes with the MV RTP. For community Easter Egg reasons :wink:

I really think we just need more community Easter egg resources in general!...Although....to be fair, it's also not something I have ever looked for, so maybe there are already some that exist. :LZSskeptic:

And I'm back with another suggestion.

My next request is skeletons. These are not the standing ones of which there are lots, but the ones on the ground where someone has died. The RTP has just one. Looking through my paid collection I found another. And that's it, as far as I know. If, for example, you want to show the aftermath of a battle, that just will not do. Some variations would be much appreciated.

Thanks to Avery for starting this thread and to everyone who's planning to do an Advent Calendar this year! I'd like to add animal behaviors to the list - the pig rolling around from Avery's calendar a couple years ago is one of my favorite animated animals. :) Here are some examples that I can think of:

- Cat sleeping, sitting, grooming itself, or playing with a ball.
- Dog sleeping, sitting, or barking.
- Birds eating from Avery's birdhouse, or pecking at stuff on the ground.
