So, with the start of August the advent preparation time has started for some, and might start for some others!
As last year, it is time to think: what stuff would I like to have to make my game even better?
Is it a specific type of cave, a certain monster, a face for an animal that you want to be able to talk to?
Whatever it is, remember that details and reference images help us get your idea and like with your list for santa, you never know what you will get in the end ;) Though being nice always helps with the result you are hoping for :D -
I suggest that MZ's grass cave and crystal cave need some really crucial customization. Oh, and I would love it if MZ's wolfman can get an actor SV battler.
-
I can't believe it is that time already. Time really does go by fast.
I would love the addition of most D&D type monsters and assets. But especially:
- Gelatinous cube
- Rust monster (heh heh - did someone say destruction of metal equipment?)
- Displacer beast
- Tarasque
- Mimics (you can never have enough mimics)
- Cool Zombies (of course)
My main RPG project will be very much D&D themed and I think any assets of that type could benefit fantasy RPG projects in general by providing more options. -
I probably sound like a broken record, but I'm going to request NPC behaviors again.
Post in thread '~Special~ Avy's MZ Stuff' https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?threads/special-avys-mz-stuff.125711/post-1401686 was such an awesome addition.
Some potential options:
- A store owner sweeping their porch.
- A minstrel playing an instrument like a lute.
- A fisherman casting and reeling in their catch.
-
What I would like is more variety on wells.
Here are a couple of examples from years ago (so even more amateurish than now)
First a well with a tiled covering
Then one where there is a winch to help draw the bucket up
Perhaps there are other possibilities.
Thanks. -
Oh, and I'd also like to add a bundled square haystack that can be made into an A2 autotile.
-
If i could ask for anything, it would be some unique tiles for crazy dungeons like underwater, or a candy world c:
-
I know it's weird but maybe 3 step (idle motion) sv battler animation for the big monsters mv? I really liked your one for the God (the multi arm head thing) i think those make really good boss sv battlers.
-
I know generator parts are a lot of work, but I've had a hard time trying to find anything much for Middle Eastern clothes.
I'm thinking turbans, open-chested vest. I don't think I've seen Egyptian headpieces/robes either.
For my specific usage, it would be MV-style of coloring (although I know you have guides on trying to convert them!). -
if i were to ask for something it'd be ice! ice is my favorite element and i always aim for something related even if just the color, so stuff like ice weapons or ice skill effects would be awesome if you do those!!! :LZSjoy:

I once had a big list of things that would be cool, but all I can think of right now are more behavior sprites!
-
If I'm allowed a second bite of the cherry? There are 2 elements to this suggestion.
Waterfalls with no cliff face behind them. If you're not using the default colour cliffs the ones provided are unusable. And in different widths. A normal size one, obviously. A small slight one for a stream so it could e.g. trickle down nicely in a cave where it's only just emerged.
Maybe something like this which is only half a tile or so wide?
There is a clear drawback with the thin waterfall - you need a thin stream. That requires a water autotile (on a transparent background to match the waterfall) that is a lot narrower than the default one. A tile like that is, however, dual use. It makes much more realistic rivers on the world map; things are more in proportion.
e.g. Ace editor screenshot showing proportions. As an aside, you might recognise your wooden rail sleepers. They make excellent rural bridges.

Community mega-world project: "Worldball"
This project starts with a developed baseline of rules for combat, character stat range, and level balancing. Each participant submits an overworld or underworld map containing miniquests and puzzles utilizing the default plugins and scripting. A core group will develop the start-up main-line quest storyline which unleashes the starting party into the world of a myriad of maps and themes.
In the end... it is assembled into a connected open world game.... "Worldball".
Learning from this experiment, and if it is deemed worth pursuing, future improved versions and add-ins could be created in subsequent years. -
An easy one: I often say to myself, "Let me go back to the MV RTP! I'll just recolor the grass a bit so it feels not such a bright shade." 5 minutes later...."Wait, I can't recolor the grass without messing up the colors in the cliffs on the A4 and A5 sheets. Wait, I can't change the color of the grass without messing up the water on A1 sheet. Or the autopaths on A2 sheet. etc...." All of the base grass tiles changed to some other distinct color, so that specific color be selected and then recolored for us amateurs in GIMP.
A harder one: I also say to myself, "Gee, I really like the MVP RTP and all its variations and cohesive resources. Let me start a project using this style. But wait...the sprites are SO ugly. And the sv battlers...are SO UGLY. THEIR EYES ARE BIGGER THAN THEIR LEGS. Oh I remember why I stopped using MV last time..." I wonder if an altered base could be done to the MV generator, so that all of the sprites and sv actors have less ugly eyes and slightly smaller heads (this might mess up all the upper body generator parts though ;x), or just whatever edits can be done to not feel like you can only make a game with the tone of an anime. -
If I'm allowed to make a wishlist, the I have some suggestions:
-Food icons.
-Modern clothing icons.
-Modern clothes for the generator.
-Front and rear hairstyles for the generator.
-A kangaroo sprite. -
I think there's a lot out there that are things like RTP edits, but if you're looking at things in a different style (pixel art for example) those are harder to find so furniture or basic stuff but in a more pixel art style would be cool.
Separately, I would love to have a battleback on the top of large tropical trees. Like characters fighting on the tops of large palm trees and the like.
Oh and a pixel art mapinguari monster side view battler. That would be cool. -
And back again with another suggestion.
There are far fewer double beds than single ones, so a few of those would be great. However, I'd like to go a bit further and ask that instead of giving them to us already done, we have them as separate pieces - modular beds, if you like. If the bedsteads were separate from the bedding, we could mix and match and have much more variety from a smaller work load for you.
The absolute icing on the cake would be to have a couple of sideways double beds. But I realise that might be too big an ask.
Thanks. -
I don't know if the other more or less secret advent people will also post here, but I know they read and use the suggestions, too, so remember, it is not just me you are talking to ;)
But, some personal input:
I do MZ only for my calendar, since I really wanna keep it in one thread and just have it uniform, I know I could cover many makers and even styles, but I like it that way so that who follows the calendar can potentially find something useful in every day.
For me, wishes have to be more detailled than just a vague theme, the more flavour and references the more likely it catches me ;) Kes posts are a good example, for everyone who wants to give their wishes the best chance.
On the MZ theme, I pledged to fill 52 cells in What the MZ RTP is missing, and I still need to do some of them, so knowing which characters you would love to see added to could be helpful. Just saying that I hate the designs of most of the Big Monsters though, unfortunately.
Not gonna say which of the requests might have caught me, I have not yet started on them, but some might have made it onto my list of stuff I plan to do. Just see how it goes.
Also, just a little hint if you wanna use one, @ZombieKidzRule , there is an amazing gelatinous cube by guardinthena in her thread :3 -
Dear Santa... can we possibly have pool/water park tiles? And maybe an animation of the lights in the pool? A simple one with on and off frames is great, but you know what would be so cool for my game? The lights could glow electric blue or white, and then spray acid, much like they did in the childhood nightmares that gave me submechanophobia. I do like giving life to my nightmares. It's how I face them. ;)
Thanks so much for all your amazing art this year, including the VXAce tileset for MV/MZ. You are amazing, and Merry Christmas in August!
