AI General Sharing Thread

So, I have been experimenting with a bunch of other AI image generators to cross compare. But I was curious about the recent discussion about how to tell if a human artist was using AI instead of doing the drawing themselves. And one of the suggestions was to look for versions of the art showing progress.

I decided to do a very quick, simple test in Gemini to see if I could replicate the "in progress" series of images. I didn't try to tweak anything or fine tune the prompts to see if I could completely "fake" the "in progress" concept. I just wanted to see what Gemini would do with just the simple, initial prompts.

Anyway, here are the results. There are easy to spot spelling errors on the concept design image. But again, this is what Gemini generated without me specifically trying to create an "in progress" series that could fool someone.

I think this was a very interesting and insightful test.

Uh, how would that fool someone? Even that first "in progress" picture already looks like a complete picture. Not a rough sketch. There's barely any change from the "first sketch" to the final product.

Also some of the "previous versions" have more detail than the "later versions". Look at the legs. LOL!

Don't tempt him, Gemini is probably able to do that too. It's a bit scary to be honest.

Nonetheless the positive side is the gorgeous pictures we can get out of it, like these fanarts/fanfictions one of my players sent me.

Nah, I want to see an AI do it. Maybe it can with enough prompting but I'm not impressed so far.

I mean, maybe Mr Zombie will take it as a challenge.

I’m not sure it means enough to me. I only did it because I was curious. Sort of why I develop some mechanics through Events, just to satisfy my curiosity.

I might play around with it some more. But Gemini only lets you use the Thinking option a few times a day for free and I’m not paying for any upgrades.

At least not yet.

I have zero skill for drawing and I definitely don't have an artist's eye for things. Maybe that is why I am more impressed by AI image generation from the better models.

Here is another quick attempt I did on my phone. Again, I didn't try to get fancy and fine tune anything and I just used the free version of Gemini.

I have found that the wording of prompts makes a very big difference when doing things with AI.

My curiosity is how non-artists might view a progression like this because they don't really know any better. An artist may be able to immediately tell that these weren't hand drawn, but I wonder about just the average non-artist person.


Anyway, this was sort of interesting, but certainly not anything I would need since I don't care about trying to "fake" progression drawings. If I decide to use AI generated images for anything in the future, I'll own that and not try to hide it.

I really have to wonder what the state of AI usage will be 5 years from now?

And I have also been playing around with Gemini generated stories. Those are interesting for just quick, pulp fiction, dime store novel type stories for casual entertainment. But as someone who has been writing for over 4 decades, I vastly prefer telling my own stories, in my own voice, with my own details.

But I will say that playing around with some NSFW stories out of morbid curiosity, a genre that I haven't really explored writing myself, I have determined that Gemini can be a rather kinky purveyor of story plots. I find myself reading the what do you want to happen next options and thinking...really Gemini? Where did that twist come from?

Probably not. AI art looks awesome for the most part.
Anti AI-people try wayyyy too hard to see bad things in AI generated images. If they tried that hard with most humans, they woudn't be impressed by them either.


Personally I happen to like telling stories, it's even the reason number one that pushed me to release so many games, so I don't see the point at all asking AI to do it instead of me. Anything I feel good at, I prefer to do it myself B) so it's the same when I write music, I want it to be 100% my own work.

I'd really recommend you actually watch a YouTube video of an artist drawing something from scratch to completed colored + shaded piece. Even those "how to draw" kid's books show how you start with basic shapes and gradually fill in details.

If it's digital art the artist will even often lasso tool and move parts around, rotate them, erase and redraw sections, etc.

I created a funny song. I wrote the lyrics myself. It is called "I play with myself". It is about solitaire, the card game you play alone. It is fun, and it is free, the perfect combo for me! Some people might think it is about something else, until they get to the last verse, but only if they have a dirty mind. It is a perfectly clean song about a card game.

I'm saying this because that guy what's his name who had generated 10+ songs with Suno also had the same exact style for all of them.

Yeah, you can make any style you want. I went for 80's pogo punk, though.

Edit: I made another one I like. (Yeah, I made more than just those I share here, but most are in Dutch. You wouldn't listen to them anyway.) Of course, like always, I wrote the lyrics myself.

@Indinera The fact that a short movie can be made with AI like that is amazing. But that ending sure took a bit of a surprising, dark turn.

It proves if there ever was the need that AI isn't "slop" no matter how much the loud ignorants want to convince the world of it.

@Indinera After testing over 20 different AI generators, I can confidently say it definitely depends on the quality of the generator and the user prompts.

There are some generators that are just plain terrible. Others I can't really get a good feel for because I refuse to pay a subscription without really knowing what you get.

Gemini and Grok make very nice images and Grok lets you make a lot of short videos for free each day. But there are definitely a lot of issues with the Grok videos. Mainly with bad lip syncing.

But it won't be long before a major studio puts out a full AI generated movie. The savings in actor salaries alone would make that something to explore.

A dystopia lol a world invaded with billions of AI generated content (and tons of fake stuff pretending to be genuine). I can understand the fear of many even though calling it slop was always pure nonsense. Just because you're (legitimately) afraid doesn't mean you need to go out of your way to (wrongly) put it down. The funny thing is that, if AI was actually only producing slop, there'd be no reason whatsoever to be afraid of it.

Why on Facebook? A short movie should be great for YouTube. How short is short?
