Thalzon's MV Battlers

They're sick!!! Nice ideas Thalzon, for real.
In fact, the last month I was thinking: "Sheesh, these designs are pretty awesome, but I miss some acuagenic triton stuff" And now they are here XDDD

This week's update is a warren of kobolds. Previously, we had some kobolds in the Grasslands Set. These ones are a bit more bloodthirsty.

I fully endorse bloodthirsty kobolds. I am also in love with the little kobold with wings. :D

This week we have a collection of nymphs. The first two are Metsanneito, from Finnish folklore, who appear as beautiful young ladies, but have tree hollows in their backs. Next is Nang Ta-khian, the spirit of hopea odorata trees from Thailand. Her shorter, green clone is an Alseid, from Greek mythology. The last two are Yao Grass, a mythical plant from China, in two forms, as there is two varieties. One was just a plant with magical powers, the other originated as a transformation of an ancient Chinese princess.

With scant hours to go before Christmas (and having forgotten today was update day...) I bring you new battlers. Entirely birds, many of them spiny.
First is Shuyu, a cryptid from China. A chicken with four heads and six legs, it is believed to have been a case where one misidentified a crayfish. Next is Zhen, also from China. These were birds with poisonous feathers. Finally we have the Picolaton, from eastern France. This spiky bird nips at lazy childrens' heels. Enjoy, and happy holidays.

This week's update is a host of swamp oddities. First up is Herwisch, a lantern-carrying version of Will-o-the-Wisp that leads wanderers astray. Next up is a drake, and then a pig-snake called Zhu-Tun-She. After that is something a little odder. These shades are called Etiainen, and are Haltija from Finnish folklore. These shades will go ahead and do things before a person actually does them. In battle, I imagine them overlapping a little and using the heroes' attacks! Finally, we have a Likho, a creature from Russian fairytales. It would often chase down and kill those who cheated it somehow. Enjoy.

Hi Thalzon, I was wondering how you feel about people editing these for use in their game projects? Your VX/ACE thread said you didn't mind, but you'd prefer the edits be shared which I'm more than happy to do. Not sure if this is still the policy.

Specifically, I've had the idea to convert these into SNES Style pixel art battlers. I've had success converting other battlers into pixel art and yours work amazingly well.

Yep, that's still my take. Feel free to edit, and share them because I love to see peoples' creative twists.

Hi Thalzon, I had a quick question. I was going through your master battler file and found a battler for a Worker Ant, but no Ant Queen. Is there a battler missing or is this something we can expect to see in the future perhaps?

There's currently no ant queen battler, and unfortunately it's not part of the (extensive, never-ending) backlog of sketches. But I wedge in new stuff all the time, so we'll see in the future.

If that's the case, I should really start posting stuff for my projects. No joke, you've inspired a lot of things (like my icon)

Today's update has a few oddities here and there, which I will of course explain as we go.
First off, we have that one-legged demon dog thing. This is a ghost of a specific place; Odal Pass in, Scotland, to be precise. It is called Biasd Beulach, and it's a shapeshifter, often appearing as a one-legged man or a dog.
Next is a tree-like dragon. This is Ladon, from Greek mythology, who guards the golden apples in the Garden of Hesperides.
After that is the Badalisc, a creature at the center of an odd ritual in Italy, wherein he is captured, trotted through the village, and then proclaims all the community's sin and misdoings... in rhyme. Being a huge gossip, he apparently knows it all. He is then freed the next day.
Then we have the Vatnagedda, a flounder covers in fine hair and spurs. This is another creature who definitely does not live in swamps (it hails from northern Iceland), but appears like it could, so here it is.
The blobfish-like creature is called Bosch, a surprisingly normal name for such a weird creature. They are born when a crime, such as theft, is committed on a ship. Until they are ritually cleansed with smoke from humid straw, they will being ill fortune to the entire crew while at sea.
Finally, another creature who would not be at home in a swamp. Takshaka is a Nagaraja, a snake king, from the Hindu epic Mahabharata. One of the eight most-venomous snakes, he is friends with Indra. He's here in the swamp set because his base is the same as Ladon.

This week's update contains some pretty freaky critters. First is Bes Chem, from Malaysia. "Bes" effectively means "spirit", so Bes Chem is a bird spirit, but has a freaky bug-eyed human face dominating its front. Next is Hakuturi from Maori mythology. They are humanoid birds that act as forest guardians. After that we have Doratobo, a mud man yokai. And finally, the water horse Wihwin, from Central America. Water horse fairies and spirits are common in mythology, especially European lore. This one apparently dwells in the mountains in the summer months.

This week's update is some undead and worms. First is Am Fear Liath Mor, from Scotland, his name means "Big Gray Man." He tends to be seen on the peak of Ben Macdui, second-highest mountain in the British Isles. Next is Tlahuelpuchi, a vampire from Mexico. She would live with a family, only to transform and suck the blood of newborns at night. Like some eastern vampire myths, she can detach from her legs. After that is Balbal, from the Phillipines, who steals corpses to feast upon them. It apparently has a keen sense of smell, and its long tongue makes it a specific type of ghoul. The excess skin is used much like a gliding squirrel to leap safely from tree to tree. The worm-like creatures with stitches and a big foot are lemures, form Roman mythology. These are pitiable spirits that cause trouble unless exorcised. After that we have Bes Kemwar, or "maggot spirit". It causes all manner of illness and sickness, as minor as coughing to as major as gangrene. And lastly, we have Canshen, from China. She is the goddess of silkworms. There are two pseudo-historical records; one deifies her as a goddess, while the other has him as the first ruler of the Shu Kingdom.
