Event - Sleigh the Competition! 2023 Christmas Game Jam

Alright. I finally finished the first mini game of my Game Jam entry. It is a Krampus Christmas version of Rock, Paper, Scissors called Brat, Krampus, Santa. Here is a short video of the game play.

You can't really tell from the test play because I was too lazy to build the fake play through functionality, but there are color codes. The player can be a Boy, a Girl, or a Child (gender neutral). There are 6 Avatars available for each option. The Brat card changes according to the player's gender and so does the color coding. Blue for Boy, Pink(ish) for Girl, and Purple(ish) for gender neutral. The TIE picture also changes according to the player gender.

Also, the player names their own character or a name is randomly generated if the player chooses not to customize their experience. So where it say Child, that would really be the player name.

In the game, the player can pick a name, Avatar, age, and gender. Or they can have those options randomly selected.

In the actual game, the color coding matches so the Avatar, Brat Card, and Color Text all match.

I hope this little video intrigues you. I have to say I am having a blast making this game.

Hmm, so I can probably finish within three more days at my current rate of progress. I have a couple bugs that happen on rare occasions but can't nail down what's causing them, so this might ship with bugs.

Just finished the MSQ of mine, as it were! Though it still needs opening and ending scenes ^^;;; man I hope it fits in 20 minutes!

My game has no blondes, but you may still find it amusing. It actually has no humans at all except for Santa, only animals.

@AquaEcho Although misinformation has been spread for centuries, a War Party delegation of Elves would like to emphatically state that Santa is, in fact, an Elf. So your game apparently has no humans at all. Long live the animals...and Elves!

Packaging question! Do you want our games to be totally standalone, no RTP required? If I don't have to remove and then re-import the RTP stuff I used, my feelings wouldn't be hurt, but I can do it if you prefer XD

Thank you, but I didn't ask if we could use the RTP--I asked if the game can require the RTP to run, or if it must run without the RTP installed. XP is from the era when the RTP actually was the run-time package, not shorthand for the default assets. Games didn't have to include all those default assets if the player had the RTP installed already. It saved download sizes.

If I have time, of course I'd prefer to make it stand alone--but it would be nice to know if it's a must-do, or a place I can shave off a bit of time if I'm feeling squeezed XD

I believe I just went through and played all the games submitted so far. Y'all made some awesome games, feel proud. Very cool and interesting ideas. It's hard to make a game, even harder to make one in a short time span

Would anyone be opposed if I uploaded my playthroughs on YouTube? There isn't any commentary, just game play. As a dev I always find it helpful to study how people play my games and see what works and doesn't.

Just finished a couple of extra runs through my finished project for testing, and I'm coming in just under 20 minutes, so it will probably take others a little longer, hopefully still close to the 20 minute mark. While I definitely feel that my ending scene could have been longer, I decided I would cut it off here.
Now, just to figure out the submission and I'll be done with that. Would really like to see what others think of this, and I'll try to play some of the other entries this week, to see how other approached this.

Edit: OH, uh, need to clarify something about the rules.

There's a rule against linking to sites where you pay for things, which would include Itch, but Itch is mentioned as being a place we could upload our submissions. Is the rule not applying to an official game jam?

Edit again: Okay, looking over the rules again, the one I was thinking of was changed last month, but I'm still unclear if Itch is . . . well, clear, since you can donate on the platform, which I think is still against the rules?

If you link to a free thing and it’s sitting next to a paid thing…can’t control that. We ain’t the cops. The general rule is just in reference to directly linking paid materials. @jssf1992

Okay, I think was still confusing the old rule, which used the word 'sites', with the new rules.

Finally got like 95% of the placeholders replaced.
Most of the mechanical programming is done, so it's mostly just a matter of finishing the writing.

Currently hoping to get it done by Tuesday.

Close to done - all I need now is to finish implementing the music. I got a volunteer who offered to do some custom music, and the track that's done is a lot of fun! :LZSjoy:

This is turning out amazing. We have 13 games submitted already with several more on the way.

Games can be submitted through Thursday, December 21st.
