  1. Dang, this looks fun...I wonder if I can make one if I start now...
  2. @ilmania you still got almost two weeks, which is not impossible! :kaoluv:

Yes, but the later you start the smaller you'll have to make scope of the game. Who knows: a short, simple game might win.

It's amazing how much RMMV experience I'm getting by speedrunning game development for this game jam. :kaopride: I hadn't even touched attack animations until I made an entire (albeit simple) animation today!
A Game jam will do that for you. Who knows if you like this jam game you can expand it post jam.(Haven't had that happen to me yet.)
  5. Question for the MODS and GAME JAM JUDGES:

Preface - my Game Jam entry is almost exclusively using free pictures/images from sites that allow commercial use, such as PIXABAY and PEXELS. I also got a temporary subscription to iStock. I have spent quite a few hours already trying to find images that work well with my game concept.

Of course my credits will list all the resource artists.

I know that the subject of AI Art is touchy and I don't want to offend anyone on this forum, especially the artists. So I have purposefully been avoiding AI Generated art from those free sites.

However, there are a couple of sets of art that the creators have labeled as AI Generated Art. Those sets fit perfectly in my game.

Again, I don't want to cause any problems, hard feelings, or offend anyone.

So my specific question is, for the Game Jam, can we use AI Generated Art?

If not, or if the MODS or the GAME JAM JUDGES would prefer that we didn't, that isn't a problem. I will just spend some more time searching for alternate images that I can use.

Thanks for considering this question and I really hope this doesn't cause a kerfuffle.
  6. I guess not. AI generated art is full of copyrighted material which is used by the AI without concent.

It would bw the same if I took original graphics, then edit them into something else for you.

AI is the biggest pirate there is, and the user is responsible.
  7. I’d like to get input from other judges on this. Personally, I am ok with using ai generated art under these conditions:
    • you own the original artwork that was used as the feeder source
    • you used royalty-free art as the feeder source
  8. Hmm. We kind of treat AI resources the same way we do ripped resources. As in…we really only act on a cease and desist and do not permit distribution. However, for a contest with a cash prize? Kinda icky.

Not unless you can verify a situation like @TESTOSTERONE has kind of laid out where all the source materials are Kosher. I kinda feel like that’s not super duper what is happening with AI most of the time tho. :kaoswt:
  9. @TESTOSTERONE and @Ms Littlefish Thanks for following up! Those sound like very reasonable conditions and I understand the questionable nature of the AI Generated art, which is why I pondered quite a while before even asking the question.

Using those conditions will mean I won't be able to use what I have found since there is no way of telling what sources the contributors used to generate the art. I don't think many contributors would be super forthcoming about what they used as sources.

But that is no problem for me.

I will just plan on looking for different images.

    Thanks again!
  10. Nice question by ZombieKidzRule.

Now while we're at it, I have a similar question, I used my previous drawing of Marsha (can just imagine she has similar style with my profile picture) as the feeder image for my game's character using PlaygroundAI.
Is it allowed? Do I need to provide proof in the game? If yes, how?
  11. Since the original image is yours, that is acceptable.

In the credits you could say something along the lines:
    • Some images were generated by PlaygroundAI with the source images copyrighted by @boringprotagonist

Hmmm not that I plan on using A.I. art for my entry, but I assume something like this is acceptable? Fed my ugly art into the machine (Leonardo) to turn it into something that looks decent at least xD 8A53A193-D99B-4DB6-95EF-BE7EDADF7BB3.png
  13. Personally I think this is all questionable, because for an AI to be that good it has to be trained on thousands of artpieces. It can't create something out of nothing. So, even if you feed it 1 picture that has been your own, it is still an AI that has been trained on someone elses art and it will use pieces or learned knowledge of that to enhance your 1 picture.
But that's just my two cents to that whole thing.
Whatever the judges decide, is fine by me.
  14. I am so horribly, terribly not procrastinatin' on this jam right now, like I did not completely and totally draw a cute li'l anime boy face with two dozen facial expressions who is not gonna appear on my jam game AT ALL god I'm just gonna sink in this jam like I'm made of solid tungsten :kaoswt:

Anyway!:kaoluv:How's errybody doin'? Submissions start in just a few measly days! :wub :wub
  15. @alice_gristle
I have half a map, an intro and not much else.
I was away this weekend, so had no time to work on it. I'm not sure, if I will even have some form of game in the end, but surely some new resources for you all.
  16. Guys, you don't need AI generated art to make a good short Xmas game.
Why using AI generated art with all the countless free\paid resources and resource packs available?

    You can use:
    RTP from all rms
    FSM
    DS resource packs
    Time Fantasy resource packs
    Caz's Pixel Fantasy tiles
All the Advent Calendar resources that @Avery @Candacis @hiddenone and other artists are making.
A huge amount of free and paid resources scattered here, on itch.io and on japanese blogs
All the other resource packs I don't know about and I didn't mention.
You can also hire an artist for a few custom busts.

This is a short game with very few characters at most. Why using AI generated art for a short game contest? I don't get it.

However I'm only a judge, this is @TESTOSTERONE's event, he is the big boss and the other judges are Mods so I'll leave the decision to them, I'm the smallest fish of the pond here, but ironically also the one who bites the most.
  17. I'm putting the final polish on my last map, and finally starting eventing! What I have so far looks fantastic...but not much else XD The good news is that I think the eventing will go smoothly, I don't foresee anything complex enough to tangle me up for more than a few minutes. (Famous last words?)

Oh come on! Be honest. You're just trying to include zombie themed equipment and environment in your game jam entry. :p
    (Don't take me seriously here.)
  19. @Dalph I don't disagree with your point, but it really depends on what you are making.

My Game Jam entry is made up pretty much entirely of photos, using RPG Maker to do all the Eventing to make the game work. But using photos is why none of the RTP or other free resources here on the forum work for my concept. I wish they did.

It just happens to be the concept that inspired me so that is what I started to run with.

If I was making something that looks like a traditional RPG Maker game, it would be all over those resources.

But again, I totally get your point.

Photos? Like photos made with a camera? If yes, then why don't you use real photos with a filter?
Unless you mean Pictures instead of photos, but the same rule could apply to it. To me that's still better than AI, lol.

I guess you are making a Visual Novel there, but if you know where to search for them, you can still find plenty of good pictures not AI generated. For Visual Novels, countless devs use this technique I mentioned to save up money on backgrounds and pictures.
