  1. @Housekeeping, the track doesn't loop and plays only once in game, so the crowd is responding to that. :)
  2. Let's see what we've got here today...

    @Ms Littlefish: I pretty much agree with Housekeeping here. It's quite atmospheric! But some of the heavier strings do kind of add an oomph that maybe shouldn't be there if your theme is "tiptoes." Otherwise it definitely has that mysterious feel.

    @Housekeeping: That is kickin' rad! I can definitely see what Ms Littlefish is geting at with the Earthbound comparisons. It's like some strange yet very agreeable compromise between jazz and hip-hop and classical and techno (if I'm getting my genres right). I almost see this as more of an overworld theme than a battle theme. I picture the player walking through some city of questionable character and this playing as they do.

    @Iron Croc: Very waltzy indeed! I can see the ladies and menfolk dancing and bustling through a grand hall. And there's got to be some tankards of beer/mead/something alcoholic in the mix. Though maybe not, since it is a royal gala and it would not be fitting for some royal to lose their heads at such a fancy party.

    Now for my most recent offering. In the place where I roleplay the most, I read an amazing, heart-jerking battle scene run by three people with five characters (one of which I forgot about till the last minute, oops, but he was kind of uninvolved anyway). The two main duelists called their battle a draw, but both of them killed the other's backup, which crushed both of them emotionally. It was beautifully written and it inspired me, so right after I read it I sat down and made this (of course I had to finish it after work but that's beside the point). It's obviously not a battle theme; more of an aftermath theme if anything. I didn't realize that I used a certain three-note segment (you'll know it when you hear it, I think it's pretty prominent) in both this song and my last song till it was too late though and now that's bothering me. Anyway, here we go!

    I took a lot of inspiration from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn's Empress Sanaki, which I feel to be a superb organ/flute piece. If you listen to this song and then mine, I think the influences are pretty obvious.  :guffaw: The people who were involved in the battle I based the song off of really enjoyed the song, but what do you people think?
  3. This really reminds me of the feeling I get playing through the beginning part of FFIII in the town where everyone's been cursed.

    Well, this thread mostly runs on honor system. There are no official rules or rule enforcement in here. It obviously would be very polite for posters to comment on the post or posts above them when sharing something new but no one can really make anyone do that.
    Sorry about this, I generally post here last minute as I'm in a whirl doing a million things at once and I end up not having time. If it makes you feel any better, I feel bad not commenting when there are some extremely brilliant artists (including yourself) that post their work here.

    Check out an upcoming single by my band. We're planning to drop an EP this year!

    EDIT: The embed code seems to have been confused because our song is posted as a private link. Just click here.

    Did you delete it?

    Anyways, something new, from my EP and I decided to release it for free. It's the followup song on the EP to The Chaos & Calm Before / The Beautiful Storm:

  4. @Miss LIttlefish--when I said the instrumentation sounded more mature, I was talking more about the samples that you've picked.  They sound less midi-ish (other than the strings).  Also sometimes, even in your classical pieces, some of the instrumentation feels a bit harsh for lack of a better word.  And it's not the instruments themselves, but the patches.  This one blended very well.  Maybe it's a mixing thing.  I probably should have said this in my last post, but it skipped my mind for some reason.

    @Sami: I know you were going for a minimalist thing here, but my ear's craving more counterpoint early on, even it's some atmospheric sounds.  Some of the patches you're using a are a bit piercing, too--particularly that violin at the end and the wind instrument early-ish in the song.  That brief moment around the 50ish mark where the instrumentation comes in full is great--I wish that were less fleeting.  I guess the fleetingness of it could be the point, but I'd still like a litttttle more out of it.

    @Cyreides: I'm not particularly fond of the big clubby saw synth (I think it's a saw--if not, I'm sure you still know what I'm talking about), but that's more of a personal thing for me (not a fan of club music in general).  I like how much fun you have with dynamics; that's something I really need to consider more in my own music.  That little reversed melody is pretty sweet; I like how you built the song around it.

    I know it's been radio silence for a while, but I just finished another song today, so here it is:

    I'm probably not going to post much more for a while.  I need to go back to doing spriting and tile work; I just had to get this song down so I could hear the area as I worked.

    Club music's not for everyone I suppose. And that reversed melody is actually a sample from the Beautiful Storm part of the song that comes before it on the EP. The whole thing just started out as an experiment to see if I could work with a sample or not and I ended up running with it and making it a full fledged song.

    And this very much sounds to me like something maybe out of a dream sequence or something? Or exploration in a particularly fantastic environment? Idk. I'm struggling at the moment to put into words exactly what I'm feeling with this, but I do like it for sure.
  6. @ Housekeeping Oh! I see! I've been playing around with the Garritan VST Library that comes with my Finale Notation software. It's an OK Library for the price, the woodwinds are pretty lovely. But as you said, the strings are pretty lame, which is sort of a deal breaker for me. I have Komplete 10 coming in the mail so I think things are about to get interesting over here.
  7. Hey guys, long time since I have been here, but I wanted a bit of feedback on one real quick. For those of you keeping up with what I have been doing, I was working on a concept album telling a story. If you aren't familiar, feel free to check out the other parts of the album so far and read the descriptions to get a basic idea of what is going on in the music, they are all connected.

    Anyways, I have a new one set before the last song I posted here. It is called Revolution and this time it is on my new Youtube channel instead of a link to soundcloud, lol. I will be posting all of my music to my channel soon, so feel free to subscribe if you would like. But yeah, any feedback is welcome here...
  8. Everything you guys posted sounds great (even though I totally don't have time to go through more than the last three pages).

    Anyway, I made a new song for a project I'm working on. Lemme know what you think:
  9. This first song is just a free EDM song I did for Halloween this year:

    And this one is a completed version of a piece of atmospheric/orchestral music I posted a page or so back:

    That's some amazing (I'm assuming) battle music!

    This is pretty cool too, very good for like exploring an overworld or something like that.

    EDIT:

    Released my first EP to iTunes! You can hear it on soundcloud too tho

    Thanks! Yep, that's the idea alright.

    These aren't exactly music for RPGs, but here's a couple of 8-bit remixes of popular songs:
  13. @Riveramusique

    If you're interested in selling your music and/or services you may want to check out the classifieds 'offers' board. I'm enjoying your portfolio and I'm certain a few members over there would enjoy it as well. This thread right here is more of a showcase area so you'll get a lot more feedback for purchasing in the classified section.
  14. Unfortunatelly I don't know how to create music. But if I knew I would surelly make some, for me to sing ^ ^
  15. @ TheoAllen I really enjoy the melody and rhythm in this. I imagine this to be the dungeon in a game where the heroes are pushing toward the end after having their resolve renewed.

    @ Kaptain J "Fields of Green" sounds like a good theme for a starting town. I love the guitar and harp parts most in this.

    @alexis8000 No worries. I bet you'd agree than listening to music is also very enjoyable? Music is just wonderful for all parties. ^_^

    Well, it's been awhile since I posted one of my own.
  16. Hisashiburi desu ne folks! It's been quite some time.

    @mostly useless

    I love the spiccato and the flute. I imagine myself walking down a foggy road with a lot of mystery.

    @Aarl @BVT

    The link doesn't work for me.

    @Iron Croc

    The song fits exactly to the name you gave it. Great use of those organs.

    @Sinathor

    The first 2 songs cannot be found for some reason.

    Main theme: This really gives a feeling as if someone is telling a story and you just sit here and look.

    Love when the echoing strings are coming in.

    Windenfyr District theme: Nice rytme you got there and i like the bass on it.

    @Ms Littlefish:

    It really sounds classical. I can see this playing in old school cartoons. I don't think

    it quite fits for a character theme but on the other hand I haven't played The Ironbound Heart.

    Great use of instruments, though.

    @Cyreides

    For a quick attempt it's well done. It really fits for a horror scene.

    @Sami-Fire64

    Practice makes perfect. I listened to all of your songs and it reminded me of who I was a

    couple of years ago. Listen to a lot of music and try to listen how the instruments take over.

    But hey. You're talented and definitely Keep on composing. :)

    @TheoAllen

    Sound nice! I get the feeling that the hero's are preparing for a final attack with confidence.

    The horn sound really fits well.

    I will comment on more songs soon...

    Here are some songs i composed lately.

    Zane. An Elite Warrior of the Rainsoldiers.

    Algearia Desert full of mystery and puzzles to solve.

    Luna's Return. A battle arrangement of Luna's main theme which will be played much further in the game.

    Well that's it for now. Have a great day! :)
  17. Ah, looks like there's a fair amount of stuff to go through. I finally managed to complete a new song after getting knocked around by school for ages, and I hope to get back into the swing of things and start practicing again. Thanks to everyone for the feedback so far. Now, let's see what we've got here:

    @hyde9318: I dig it! I like the main riff; it's got strong, grindy, aggressive sound without going overboard. It sounds like it'd make good battle music.

    @Kaptain J: It's so serene! Would definitely make a good "first town" theme. I love the percussion (tambourine? does that count as percussion? and the drum too).

    @Cyreides: I do like me some EDM; I like how Behind You! manages to sound sinister yet like something you could rock to too. (I'm probably way off base with this, but could that be a function of the key you wrote it in? Just wondering.) Dreadful Beauty... the title is fitting. It certainly is pretty yet sinister. It feels a little slow to start, which I guess might be the point (you did say it was atmospheric music). I like the sound of Far Away too.

    @TheoAllen: I like the melody, particularly that opening brass (?). It sounds like a good song for beginning a campaign, or a title screen.

    @Ms Littlefish: Drowned Sorrows sounds very creepy and ambient. It gives me the image of a sunken haunted ship.

    @Mana Aeliria: I stumbled upon your soundcloud a while ago, I think! For Elite Warrior, I love military-esque themes with heavy brass and strings, so this was right up my alley. I definitely get the image of some powerful military general. That stringed instrument (cello?) sounds divine. Algearia Desert... what is that opening instrument? It's got a very unique sound to it. I've actually been looking for songs to reference for desert-y themes, so this one might come in handy! Actually, it feels a bit different from conventional desert themes somehow. Maybe it's the instruments. Luna's Return sounds both feminine and strong at the same time... and also a bit Asian-inspired? Great stuff, all around.

    With all that out of the way, I finally have a new song to share with you all. Someone in my roleplay group left a request for some performance music for their characters (and those of some others) who were in a traveling show. The result is below. You can read more commentary on it at the actual soundcloud page. Generally, I'm satisfied with it, though I wish I could have made it a bit longer and given it a fuller sound somehow.

    UPDATE: To avoid double-posting, I'm editing in another track. This one was meant to represent a high-tech library with a magic well that can give the drinker knowledge (the titular Mimisbrunnr). As usual, more commentary at the actual page. It was a lot of fun to make, I'll say that much.
  18. So I'm not sure I ever posted this here before, it's my favorite track from Child's Light which plays when you're able to pinpoint evidence towards the evil culprits.
  19. @Sami-Fire64: Those are some blasted BRILLIANT tracks you've posted there. I love the feel of the circus piece. It's so bright, colorful and playful. I can just see this image of a circus in my mind, partying its way through down. I think it's decently long enough, honestly. So jealous of your soundfonts. Nnngh. I also absolutely adore the pizzicato strings and the techy-synthy-watery feeling of "Mimisbrunnr". Really feels like the kind of theme I'd hear playing in a library section on some JRPG I'd dropped about $30 for, at least. Wonderful stuff!

    @MISTER BIG T: Ahh, the classic corrupted innocent through music trope. It's so satisfying to hear this done right. Suitably epic and unnerving. Well done! I love the choir vocals in this piece especially. Are they saying anything in particular?

    ---

    Now for my own part, I'm posting a link to a playlist of all the music I have done for my current project thus far. I know it's a lot of music to hear in one go, but I figure posting one link to 12 pieces would be better than spamming this forum 12 times with new tracks. For the record: I'm fairly new at composing. All the stuff I've been posting has been made in Finale NotePad and converted to better soundfonts through a site called solmire.com. I don't have much disposable income, so I have to work with the free tools I have. Plus, as I said, fairly new to composing. Didn't really have a solid enough grasp on music theory to compose until this past year.

    For a little background information on the project itself, Ad Lucem is what I'd like to call a loving send-up of the 16-bit era Final Fantasies, tackling some of their same tropes with a bit of self-referential humor while simultaneously taking its own RPG narrative seriously. It plays with a lot of archetypes and tropes, deconstructing a fair few of them along the way. The setting is quasi-medieval high fantasy, humans and elves and the like. A primary focus of this game rests upon the Bastian Church, so expect a lot of chant and hymn-inspired pieces sprinkled in.

    Pieces are hotlinked below because I can't seem to figure out the embedding code properly for these boards.
