Very interesting, Jajunk. Rock ain't my thing, TBH, but I can appreciate the effort that went into this and it sounds really well put together! :D

Huh, so rock isn't your thing? Ha, then I doubt my next post is going to do it for you. I've never tried to attempt to write in this genre. It's little retro and a little metal. It's the battle theme for my Indie Game Maker. Its supposed to be comically over the top, a little too much, and that's the joke (since we're writing a parody of sorts).

I said it ain't my thing, I never said I hate all rock. :p
I like it. It sounds very midi and it reminds me of OLD SCHOOL Pokemon (Blue and Red, anyone!)
I also get a hint of Mortal Kombat in there too. And a bit of Street Fighter.
Well done and it fits your overall OST well! -
Thanks so much, Iron Croc. It's the old games that inspire my (usually lame) attempts to write battle music. While I like a lot of the newer battle themes (orchestral is my thing, even) I really like a good chip tune feeling with hyper percussion and bass lines.
I suppose I'll go again.
For the credits roll in my OST I went for an string arrangement of the main theme which can also be heard on the title screen and a yet to be completed over world. It is a melody that has stuck with me for many years and I call it my personal, real-life friendship theme.
I've had this arrangement done for a few days but I just remixed it last night and think it sounds a tad better now. I actually used my Garritan sounds, oh man. Ahahahaha!

That battle theme remind me when i playing megaman when i was in elementary school. Slamming my keyboard (i use emulator) out of frustration because it's too hard for me back then...
And the orchesral theme is very calming. I can imagine me and my friend playing at the riverbank... pushing each other... one of us fell down... Ah, nevermind that. -
Flawless as always, Littlefish... :) I really look forward to this game.

I said it before but your style is reminding me so much of Grant Kirkhope. I'm sure you've played Banjo Kazooie or Donkey Kong 64. His use of melody, chords, and variation over simple rhythms have always been a huge inspiration of mine. I love that he can use melody to create his range of music expression.
-
I've never played DK64, I've always wanted to. I have played a bit of Banjo Kazooie though! Never owned it. Sorry, Littlefish... I had forgotten you heard the half done rough draft. :(
-
@Mana
I was merely practicing with making music and that came out. Consider them to be covers of their original versions ;) -
I did a major edit to the theme that plays in my main project's starting town. I have to say that I like this version so, so much better. https://soundcloud.com/maireadgamemusic/hometown-of-mesa-when-you-fell

@ Iron Croc: I heard this a few days ago, but I'm not sure if it was the rough draft you spoke of. I really like the way it turned out. I really like the organ touches and the harp. It's quite a nice overall mixture. This is reminding me of something really badly. It's right on the tip of my brain, but I can't quite pluck it.
@ Ms. Littlefish: I like the Hero for a Day: Main Theme. It's pretty pleasant. A couple parts in the beginning with the violin and high strings, it kind of reminded me of something from the "Shanghai Noon" soundtrack. Haha, I don't know why. It's got that friendly, bouncy, adventure kind of strings feel. I could just be mental too...
How do you like Garritan? I was looking at it awhile ago but never got around to buying it. -
I have the Garritan sounds that come packaged inside Finale and I like them alright. The instruments themselves sound real and they're definitely better than the Finale default (good Lord are those sounds both nostalgic and grating) but I've heard much more expressive VSTs. I love using Finale because the interface is very natural for me. I put a note on a staff and I can put all the expressions and markings that would appear on any piece of sheet music and the program will play back those notes, markings, dynamics, and all. That's second nature to me. I wish I could have the exact interface with something like East West of Native Instruments. That's the dream. Garritan is pretty good if you put in the work with them and not outrageously expressive either. I may even pick up their world instruments bundle.How do you like Garritan? I was literally just listening to that song. Good remix! Still feels 80s but feels a bit different at the same time.

Not bad! It's a little slow for my taste, but it's elegant and simple.Flawless as always, Littlefish... :) I really look forward to this game.

Hello, everybody! Newbie here. I'm planning on making a little game over this summer (or, at least, a demo of one!), and have the luxury of being able to compose my own music for it. Here's what I've got, so far; any comments, questions, advice, critiques (rip me to shreds, so I can learn!), etc. are actively desired!
Thank you all for your time. I'll definitely be listening to others' pieces, later on, to try to give my own feedback.
Edit: most of the pieces' names in my own link are temporary, and even actively misleading, in one case. For instance, it is the "NotManoffv2" piece that is actually the title-screen's music. Next time I update that track (when I've got more music with which to update it), things will be updated (such as "NotManoffv2" becoming "Ouerture"). -
@ Maximus Lead City is great. It has a wonderful classical feel but sounds like a mysterious and playful place to explore.In Forest of Living I like the creepy feeling which is only amplified by the bouncier passages.
@Commiczar "NoManoffv2, C minor waltz, and Eremiel's were my favorite pieces on your channel. You create a great classical sound and from a composition stand point I think you're doing rather well. The advice I would give you would be to find some samples (Sf2's and/or VSTs) and play around with mixing (LMMS, FL Studio, Audacity). Also, this is totally personal preference, but play around with some other instruments. I love the piano and it should be used a lot because of how awesome it is, but I love how awesome all the instruments are! :D -
This may be a little off topic but, does anyone know anybody that can write lyrics and sing/record in high quality and would be interested in recording some vocals for any of my songs I'm currently working on? A few songs on my album are specifically made with a vocal presence in mind but I personally only know one guy who can do this for me, and he's busy.
-
@Commiczar
Definitely not bad! Your pieces have quite a few subtleties that are captured very well by the limited use of instruments. Of course, your game will probably have a huge quantity of opportunities for composition, so don't feel bad if you don't have a lot right now. We all have to start somewhere!
@Ms Littlefish
Thank you, very much! -
