MBTI profiles of game creators?

    Hello everyone! I recently stumbled on a free popular personality test online: the Myers Briggs personality test! Now I know it might not be hard science and might not be a perfect test, but it's still very fun and to a degree correct. I think it can grasp the general personality of someone, provided they be honest when answering the test.

    I'm an INTJ by far (all 4 categories are over 75 points), and I thought it would be nice to see what's the profile of game creators. Even though INTJ are just 2% of the population, I'm sure it's much more prevalent in the game making industry. So what is your personality profile?

    The test is about 5 to 10 minutes. It basically gives you 100 statements, and you have to say either you agree or not on a little scale of 1 to 6.

    For those of you that don't know the test, it categorizes people in 16 personality archetypes. Each category is formed by 4 letters, each representing a binary characteristics:

    1) The first letter is between I and E: I is for introverts and E is for extroverts. This is a pretty straightforward category.

    2) The second letter is between N and S: N (intuition) is for people that likes to see the world in an abstract way, usually more creative, looks for patterns, love dreaming, etc. S (sensor) is for people that likes to see the world for what it is. They are usually more fact driven, prefer to have realistic objectives, etc.

    3) The third letter is between T and F: T is for thinking and F is for feeling. Now, it's not what it may seem like. People that are T still have feelings and people that are F still have logical and rational thoughts. See it like this: if they had to choose, T people would prefer expressing their opinion and beliefs to others EVEN if they know that it might hurt their feelings. They prefer the truth to harmony. F people are the opposite: they prefer keeping to themselves their thoughts to prevent harming others' feelings. They prefer the harmony of the group over the expressing themselves.

    4) the fourth letter is between J and P: To put it simply, J (judging) people abide by the philosophy "to achieve a goal, make yourself a plan and stick to it" while P (prospecting) people abide by the philosophy "better keep your options open since they're might be a better way".

    Well about 80% True I guess, ofcourse it doesnt account for my autism so... But Yeah, can live with that

    The fifth letter is about how secure you are with yourself (as ive read and understand it)

    I'm INFP, which according to the site is 4% of the population. I remember there being a lot of others on this forum with this type from previous threads like these.

    INxx are the rarest of the four possible combinations in the population (INxx, ISxx, ENxx, ESxx), but I suspect they are the majority in this community. Creators and dreamers screams introvert and intuition.

    I'm another INFP-T.

    Considering practically all the online communities I'm a part of tend to be full of INxx people, I can't say I'm surprised that this one is as well. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

    @D.L. Yomegami Well all ESxx people won't probably be on online forums. Same for ENxx I suppose. Forums have more introverted people. As for ISxx, I highly doubt that many of them would be on a creative forum which focuses on game making.

    I love how some people who make the most expressionistic of art can be the most introverted people you will ever meet. Makes sense in a way though

    @MushroomCake28 that's certainly a big part of it I'm sure. Also introverted people tend to have a bit of a different (and oftentimes) more detailed vision on the world around them (but then again that could just be me lol)

    I always get ENTP-T.

    It makes sense that most of the people on here would be introverted, and that introverts are generally more creative, however I don't think that means extroverts aren't able to be as creative and expressive! To me, the joy of creating something comes from entertaining others and seeing their reactions to whatever crazy things I've come up with. Which, in a different way, makes me want to push myself creatively and find new ways to express myself. Very different reasons, but I think it can lead to the same results.

    Now I wouldn't say Introverts are more creative though. Intro/Extroversion has nothing to do with creativity. But I'd say as Introverts express themselves less publicly but still feel a need to express themselves, they might do so more through art. Especially artforms that are less "public", more detached, like writing, painting, game making, etc., while extroverts could be more prominent in other artforms like acting or dancing. Music is in a weird place as while it is public, the instrument puts a certain distance between you and the public. A lot of musicians I've known were introverts.

    I've taken these tests a few times and have always scored INTJ (and by a quite high margin).

    I guess I didn't disappoint celianna.

    Seeing many E types on an internet forum about game making would surprise me, but I don't think other letters would have a big influence.

    Creative in game making is something more abstract. Game makers imagine a fictional world, create characters, often have magical elements, have a fantasy story, etc. This is not a sign of introversion, but intuition (the second letter N vs S).

    I've been a big fan of MBTI for years now. It's even more interesting when you delve into the 8 cognitive functions of each personality type.
    And yes, I am INTJ as well. Been 99.9% certain of it for ages now. It's not unusual to assume that INTJs will be common in a field such as game dev, seeing that INTJs are often known as "system builders", as in we have a vision and we build it up from the ground up, which is exactly what game-making is. Although there will be other N-types common in something like this, as N-types usually prefer fictional worlds and fantasy much more than S-types, which are much more grounded in reality. Last I recall there was a thread on MBTI, a lot of forum members were INFPs.

    With cognitive functions, you'll also come to understand that extrovert vs introvert is not a simple criteria. There are different types of extroverts and different types of introverts, depending on which cognitive function is your dominant. There are 4 extroverted functions and 4 introverted. So an extroverted-feeling-dominant person will be way different to an extroverted-thinking-dominant person for example. You'll also find that some extroverted types have more in common with introverts than with other extroverts, such as ENFPs and ENTPs, as their dominant function (extroverted intuition) is all about exploring new and novel ideas, which requires a lot of down time in their thoughts.

    @MushroomCake28, according to the test, I'm INFP-T.

    In defense for INFP people, these typed people want to be people smile, despite the harsh world that is out there.

    Some people called this type of personality an idealist or impractical. However, all of us here choose to make a game despite how sometimes horrible our game is.
