Hello
I am enjoying your game however I have two questions. How do I get past this guy and with the button puzzle do I need to step on all buttons to equal the number four? Thanks.
You can't ever get past that guy. I'm cheeky like that. Eventually he'll start walking back and forwards, but he'll still stay within the area where you'd be blocked from getting past him.
In regards to the button puzzle, this is probably the most complicated puzzle in the game - the saving grace being it's optional, you can just go down the ladder (if you complete it, you do get a fairly nice item, though).
Basically, the orbs represent numbers, and the goal is to make the orbs on the left show the same number as the orbs on the right. The buttons in the middle are based off a calculator (IIRC, the same layout as a keyboard's numpad), including the various operations. The one thing to keep in mind is that a button will have an effect as soon as you touch it - if you press the button for 5 and currently have addition selected, 5 is added immediately. Likewise, if the current selected number is 5, and you press the button for subtract, 5 is immediately subtracted. It doesn't wait for you to select both an operation
and a number. With that being said, you can often get around this by making use of 0 or 1 as needed.
I finally defeated Oblerost but have not been able to kill Shinryu. He always gets me in the end. Is this a necessary battle to continue the game? Or a side quest sort of thing? And I'm having a definite brain freeze. At the end of the Oblerost battle I'm supposed to go to Trinity Palace to look for Aisha. Isn't that where Cameron is? No Aisha there. ???
Shinryu is an optional boss. In general - if you see the screen flash in various colors before a boss battle, you're facing an optional boss. However, this isn't 100% reliable. There's a couple of optional sidequests that involve multiple bosses, and usually only the last one will have the flash. The reverse though is reliable - if you see the flash, it's definitely optional. (There is one case - Matalithe (and by extension, Water Elemental) - where there's a boss you must fight to complete the story, but you can fight it much earlier than when you need to for story purposes. IIRC, if you fight it early, you'll get the flash, but not if you fight it when it becomes plot-relevant.)
Cameron's location is the Saria palace. The Trinity Palace is where you fought Aisha earlier, which the quickest way to get to is indeed via the Saria palace (through the escape hole in the cells) - although it's also possible to get there from the road between Caralint/Yuvia and Nyatta.
You're doing well, by the way. Not too much further to go now!
:)
