Today's drop was inspired by @GalacticGod's Advent last year, specifically Day 22 with the Golden Sword drop. It spurred a lot of talk about a gold element and, well, that spiraled into this.

ADVENT: DAY 10~~ MIDAS TOUCHED

In search of the ultimate treasure, our Vikings adventures have set sail for a distant land where it is said a city exists where gold lines the streets and golden statues stand on every corner. Unfortunately for our brave heroes, they found the city and discovered the gold they were told was, in fact, a curse brought on by...the secret boss that's been hiding in plain sight! That's right, the Golden Goddess Statue has been a boss all along! Whether the statue is possessed by a Goddess or Demon of Greed is up for debate, but the curse is very real and has transformed the city's inhabitants into mindless golden zombies. Don't get touched or else the same fate can befall your own party!

Of course if a Midas Touched side quest isn't your thing, that's okay too. Perhaps the Goddess is speaking through her statue in a temple to the party, or the local town is so grateful for the adventures help that they have erected golden statues in their honor. My behaviours folder is starting to look a respectable size, and this is a great addition to it. I grinned at the sight of our heroes cursed to be golden. I'm sure that this will give a spurt to a lot of peoples' creativity.

Recolouring the God faceset to match the golden statue is such a great idea. And the whole RTP is even cursed now!

The Viking hair and ship are amazing as well. :wub

At long last the Golden Sword's long last master has been revealed.

The emoset and statue are awesome, and having all those sprites gilded makes it even easier to create a cool questline!

ADVENT: DAY 11 ~~ MIND FLAYER

"...what happened to all the townsfolk, Therese?" Asked Harold shakily as his wide eyes darted around the town square. The poor bodies of the townsfolk lay strewn about and Harold stood in the center of the massacre, his sword at the ready and heaving from the effort of combat. "Who broke the curse?" But when his eyes met Therese's, he found only her horrified, wide-eye stare. "Therese!" Harold called out in mounting desperation. "Why are the villagers slaughtered?"
The shock melted from her features and was replaced with a cold fire glare as she snarled, "Curse? What curse, Harold! You went mad and started attacking everyone!"
"I--I wouldn't-- What are you talking about!" cried Harold. "Everyone was afflicted with Midas's Touch!"
"You're the one speaking madness, Harold!" insisted Therese as she drew her blade, ready to defend.

What madness lurks around the nearest corner, in the depths of dark dungeons and long forgotten tombs? What eldritch creatures inspire madness in those that cross their presence? What twisted creatures use chaos and master manipulation to further their own alien agenda? Why, to those familiar with the popular tabletop RPG Dungeons and Dragons, or the more recently released video game Baldurs Gate III, they are called Mind Flayers or Illithids -terrifying aberrations that use their powerful psionics to warp their victim's perception of reality. (That's right! Here's yet another drop in fan service to the game.) Or to those that prefer H.P. Lovecraft's horror series, they come off as the spawn of Cthulhu (at least to me they do).

This tentacle faced monster hides his true nature beneath his cloak and hood, preferring to stick to the shadows to cause the most amount of damage possible. The design is based off of one of @Thalzon's many wonderful battlers.

When I saw this my reaction was just simply: "Yes!! I'm having that." I have the perfect use for it.

The mindflayer sure is spooky, it’ll be a great addition to any demonic dungeons. I love how you made its tentacles!

I know exactly which Thalzon battler you are talking about :D Having a walking sprite will add a lot more atmosphere to my game. All the DnD stuff is such a nice treat!

@coucassi - Ooh! What game? Is it 'The Mask behind the Dream,' or a new one entirely? And the D&D drops aren't quite finished yet. ;)

@slimmmeiske2 - Thank you! Thalzon has such wonderful battlers, it's such a shame that there isn't more sprites out there for them especially when so many people use them. So when I get an idea to do a sprite, in this case the Mind Flayer, and have no idea what it should look like, I'll sometimes peruse Thalzon's battlers and see what I find. :)

Goodness gracious, we've made it halfway through December already? My how the time has flown! With everything released thus far, does anyone have a favorite drop so far? While I leave that question out there, I'll just get on with today's release...

ADVENT: DAY 12~~ ELDER BRAINS!

Nobody thought the horrors stopped with Mind Flayers and their terrible Brain Dogs did they? I hope not! I just had to round out the whole aberration family with the hive mind leader--the Elder Brain! This grotesque monstrosity comes in a variety of forms: from a Young and Mature Elder Brain soaking in its pools issuing commands to its thralls followers, one with them having levitated out of their pools using their psionic powers to battle the players, and lastly, a Sci-Fi variant which has even more variations! The Sci-Fi features a Young and Mature Elder Brain soaking in their container, the glass broken, the Elder Brain missing, container empty (before the Elder Brain is placed in or, perhaps, moved to a new location?) and another with it decaying. With so many options between the fantasy and sci-fi, what new stories can you create? Is this creature the result of a Mad Scientist's experiments or an invasion from the demon dimension, or something else entirely?

It is still the Mask Behind the Dream :) Part I will be released on steam at the end of the year (in German only I'm afraid) and then I will continue to work on Part II.
Given that octopusses are my favorite animals, I will definitly include an underwater city with the flayers :D And yesssss more DnD stuff!
Will you be able to use these DnD assets in your game as well, given that is is a viking like setting if I remember it correctly, or is it more for fun?

I know I am repeating myself, but fantastic work, I love the brains in the pool!

I think I've got a decent idea for how to use the mindflayers and the elderbrains together. I shan't know without trying, but I think the mindflayers can transform their sprite into the elderbrains fairly plausibly.

Those elder brains are so cool, and being able to foreshadow them by having a few in vats before they escape is perfect for so many storylines!

The brains have legit been my favorites. They’re so damn good. Someone can very easily craft quite the dungeon or even main plot with these.

@coucassi - Ooh! I love a good underwater level. And in regards to your question if I can use these assets too form own game, only some of them. The game I was building had Viking-esque elements too it, but I don't think I could use most of this Advent's assets for my own game. A majority of them were for fun.

@Kes- I would love to see the morph behavior if you ever get it working. That would be sick!

@hiddenone - XD Brains indeed! Oh, absolutely it could be used as foreshadowing. I would really love to see them used in such a scary plot. I wonder, but would GalacticGod's Mad Scientist have something to do with them I wonder?

@Ms Littlefish - Eee! That is great to hear that the brains are one of your favs! And that was my hope by flushing out the whole brain monster family that it could give the community all the fuel they needed to craft a whole story or questline rather than if I had just made a brain dog or Mind Flayer standalone. Wouldn't have had the same use.

Oh, dear. I'm late for today's Sorry everyone! I was very exhausted last night. Been sick off and on with the kiddos these last few weeks. I think it just finally caught up with me.

ADVENT: DAY 13 ~~ KINTSUGI TEACUP
Why, is it Teacup's last and final transformation? Yes, yes it is! After acquiring gold from...any myriad of sources, we can at last repair Teacup better than ever before! I have the Facesets and Busts for those that wish to use him as an ally that they call forth from their inventory, and a set of battlers for anyone that would prefer to use him as an enemy.
