I've not played it, but the comparison I hear is that its a soulless FPS Phantasy Star Online that got rid of everything that made PSO good.
Pretty much. You don't even get a sense of accomplishment from finding rares. The loot system is just that bad.
  2. Final Fantasy 7. I only played the game because of Tifa.

Call of Duty series I don't like war shooters with a couple exceptions being Rainbow Six Vegas.

Final Fantasy 4, the game forces the party on you and you have no choice in the matter.
  3. DKC 1.

Mario 64 (It's OK, overrated beyond imaginable)

    COD
  4. Hide and seek. Repetitive strategy.

Pokemon. Soulless, repetitive grindfest with more frequent rehashes than Call of Duty.
I've never gotten the appeal of Pokémon either, but some people love grindfests.
  6. At least Pokemon knows what it's about; a semi-Sci-fi world with odd and fantastical creatures.

CoD, on the other hand...It's about WWII, no, wait, it's the War in Iraq! No, wait.... It's the Cold War! No... it's the Vietnam War! No... now we're in the FUTURE! Wait! Now we're playing CoD... IN SPACE! And now... Kevin Spacey? What on Earth are YOU doing here? Ack! Don't kill me! You were awesome in Superman Returns!

    *crickets...*

What? I loved his portrayal of Lex Luthor.

This. Destiny is simply awful. I've never seen such an over-budgeted, overhyped lie
I was going to remind you of Titanfall, but then you followed up with "be lapped up this willingly. "
  8. Controversial one of mine since they're the fun ones.  Final Fantasy VIII.  I cannot stand anything about it, I even like ff1, 2, 3 and... 13... more than 8.  That's just how much I dislike it I guess.

Interesting, as I liked what FF8 attempted to do with the story. Unfortunately they flushed it down the toilet on disk 3, and that combat system...don't get me started on that junction system. Only FF game I ever played where it was easier to win fights if you didn't level up, as most monsters leveled up their stats more than you did on a level up.
  10. I felt that FFVIII was just completely uninspired. I don't think it really knew what kind of story it wanted to tell, and I'd rather sit through ten back-to-back maths papers than work that junctioning system. It's like it took all the good VII did and just stomped it into dust. I don't think VII is the masterpiece a lot of people claim it to be but it's a damn sight better than VIII. IX craps on them both, though.

Agreed. I liked disks 1 and 2 of that game, but when I jumped to disk 3 I felt like they just drew out of a hat to figure out how to advance the story. It was almost like they had the story for disks 1 and 2 made, made the game, then got to disk 3 and were like 'oh crap, what do we do now to continue the story?". Maybe if they had decided to make it more compact and stick to disk 1 and 2, and end it with there they could have told a good, compact, 12 - 20 hour story. Though, people would have complained it was too short then.

IX? Same problem, good on disk 1 and 2, but about disk 3 it flushed the story down the toilet.

I dunno. Chrono Trigger was around 20 hours the first time through, and that told a wonderful story without padding things out. It's a shame with VIII that they must have felt obligated to make it as long as VII, even though it didn't need to be at all.

With IX, I will agree things get a little crazy in the last third. I just really liked the universe of that game. A nice, simple, back to basics FF game with great characters and a perfectly good battle system with no convoluted Junctioning bollocks. So glad I can play it on my Vita =3
  13. I do not like Knights of the Old Republic (but I like Dark Forces II more than Goldeneye)

Xenoblades. People rave about it being the best jrpg of its generation, and while it had a lot of good things going for it, I still wouldn't say it was the absolute 'best.'
I thought Xenoblade was okay, but I thought it was sad how everyone went on and on about it when it was released in the same generation as The Last Story, which IMO, was vastly superior to it, and arguably the actual best Jrpg of that generation.
  15. I see the problem with most any JRPG is that they don't really get the whole RP part of JRPG. I don't feel as though I'm projecting myself onto a character, especially when said character has either no personality or a huge personality that's chosen for me. I don't feel the various stats systems in JRPGs I've played are well thought-out, and I can't chose how I want to play apart from a few trivial choices. I don't want to play as some pre-made character, I want to be someone I created. If it was called something else, like, say, "Turn-based tactical action game" or something, I'd be fine with it. But it's called an RPG. I expect a certain standard.

I write this, realizing the hypocrisy that I'm complaining about JRPGs on a forum dedicated to a software that allows you to make JRPGs.

    You're my new best friend.

IX is the absolute best Final Fantasy in my book. It had awesome graphics, good story, and an amazing soundtrack. Everything about that game was fantastic. If my TV was functioning, I would resume my current playthrough
  17. Let's also not forget the best reason to hate Call of Duty:

When they do manage to create a well balanced and highly customizable game...  They promptly remove any and all features, guns, etcetera that made it that way in later iterations.  The only Call of Duty I ever found to be worth playing was the first Black Ops as it let you use strategy in your builds and map control.  There were "uber guns", but they could be overcome by simply building a class that overcomes them or works better in other situations.

Naturally, everything that made the multiplayer of that game highly enjoyable, customizable, and even somewhat interesting...  Was removed after every game since.

I guess you kind of have to expect that when it's possible to create "Anti-Killstreak Classes" in Black Ops 1.  I mean, we can't have people out solely destroying killstreaks... which are really the only reason all the people play Call of Duty to begin with!  Nevermind that it made teams have to rely more on individual skill instead of their killstreaks to win...  I guess that's just not in the "game plan" for how they want to design those games.
  18. everything up to modern warfare to black ops 2 had the same engine with the same graphics. they HAD to update the engine for ghosts cause of the new gen consoles.

Titanfall was made by the old cod developers. beside from it being a generic shooter, it was surprisingly well balanced and actually fun to play

Definitely. IX holds up so well even today, more than what can be said for VII and VIII. The characters are just seriously excellent. I love watching Zidane change as the game progresses, coping with the loss that happens all around him. I love that Garnet isn't your typical princess in distress (like Yuna...ugh...), and I love that Steiner is just doing his job, and is so sincere about it. I really hope the series will one day be this good again. But after the trainwreck that was the XIII trilogy, it's hard to imagine.
