  1. I haven't posted anything in here for quite some time. Currently working on my first entry for Wizards & Wanderings.
Work in progress map for the village of Far Downs.

work in progress map of the Trickster's Burrow, this is going to be a lot bigger.

  2. Some connective tissue here between two different biomes of the game, Blackwood East and The Sundered Rift.

In the lower basin valley area, merchants and nomads gather before trekking across the perilous slopes and winds of the rift. Not everyone makes it, and not everyone leaves - the basin has its lifers that thrive of the foot traffic passing through.

  3. first model of star hill! it's only the 2nd map so i ofc do have a lot to go before the script writing phase begins
  4. "Hmmm. a flying shoe? How very peculiar."

I have been testing what I can do with the RTP assets of RPG MV of late, and decided instead of being a long time lurker, I'd actually post something here.

I think I need to work on my interior's more, way too much open space, and I feel the shapes and size a little awkward.

I'd love some feedback and to hear what others think.

These were made entirely with the RTP Assets.
Please don't take this the wrong way.. these are really good beginner maps!!
I can see you're either pay attention to how retro-rpgs are mapped and/or reading some of the tutorials and/or tinkering with maps for funsies for practice.. and I see a lot of potential in these simple (no longer lurking) screenies.

If you'd like examples of some fixes on these maps, I'd be happy to share what my opinions are on how you could improve these maps.

If you haven't already read some of the tutorials, that's a great place to start. I know some folks who worked really hard to make them clear, concise, and informative. ;)

Thank you so much for the feedback!

My goal was to start simple, and look at what I know, i love Retro JRPG's so I did take inspiration from those mostly, and have read/watched some tutorials.

As for wanting examples I'd love some, I think that'd be really awesome to see ways to improve on simple maps. I like the RTP too for its simplicity even if its a little restrictive in some spots. But i would welcome those examples very much, i love feedback when im working on anything creative. So thank you!

  11. Hi, all. This is one of my kingdom's roads. I'm most interested in how the cliffs and stairs look, especially the latter! Any input or advice is appreciated! If it looks off, how can I fix them?

  14. Been trying to settle finishing touches on 'elemental animations' to attacks - but unsure if they visually flow better overlayed on the attack animation or playing after - during damage.

  16. This is my like 6th or 7th redo of the intro of my game and this time I am going with a flash forward approach here. I am just getting the general idea how the maps look before filling them out.

Since the whole idea is to showcase the carnage, then the main villains/characters going through some soldiers in a tutorial battle, and then finally at this cliffside with a giant Life Tree as I call it there.

I like the fm Forest stuff but no joke, the cliffside looks janky no matter how I show it. It feels like this tileset is only capable of blocky cliffsides.

My only options is to try and figure out an obtuse method with this tileset, give up on the life tree and get rid of it and the cliffside and thus make it more generic, or do a full-on upheaval and find a tileset with a cliffside and a giant tree I both can use and redo all three maps for artstyle consistency.

The curious Colby Cheddar finds herself underneath the nonsensical depths of Whimsicality as she continues her journey to get her scrumptious cheesecake back from those pesky weasels.
  18. A few more maps from the game i'm currently working on. I'm trying to create a world that feels lived in.

  19. I'm not really on here these days as much as I used to be, but I'd be happy to flesh out some of you maps and highlight my opinions.
To be clear, I do not claim to be the best map maker of the land. LOL! But I do enjoy simple and well-lived maps that present to the player with detail, but not over decorated. Heh.

Have you had an opportunity to explore some of the mapping tutorials around here?
Have you seen my thread on simple maps when I was testing my (at that time) tiles?

Check them out. And I'll try to get around to "revamping" your example maps. :)

  20. @Neonzumi Did you try some kinda new technique or summat? :kaoswt: The environments look so different between yo last two posts! First it's kind of a flat 2D world that I been used to seein' from ya, then whoopsie, it's a much more 3D style world? I think the 3D thingy looks good, but what did you do?
