This is supposed to be my main menu. Do you find the menu appealing? I look forward to feedback
Love it!! Stick a vignette and possibly a border on the background. Probably add a drop shadow under the menu too.
  2. I'm sketching a camp site for an RPG I'm making. Trying to make as much of the sprites my own, including a pixelated font I made too.
    Campsite
  3. Does the land mass look okay to you? I'm just trying to shape it first. Using RTP RM2K3
I don't know how I feel about it so far.
    I know it's literally nothing.
  4. mass/shape wise you cant really go wrong . It's your world so make it as you wish and can use.

One thing that i do wonder about looking at this map however is temperature distribution. It seems like you have 2 spots that are desert, so very hot, 1 that is more temperate and an entire continent in ice.

Now there is nothing wrong with that on its own but it is something that can stand out and thus need some explaining on the part of you as the dev.
Does this world have 2 suns? thus creating 2 equators explaining the deserts on very different lines?Does this planet not turn as our world does and thus creating an iced over side?

    Things like that.

Pure shape wise tho... yeah looks good to me
  5. Yeah, the question is: What are your goals here?

Just an interesting map to explore in an easy-going fantasy game? In this case, the geography can be whatever you want it to be. (Just look at the first Final Fantasy games ... The maps are differing levels of bullshit, but appropriate for what these games are doing!)

Or something believable and perhaps even immersive? In this case, you need more basics and we need more background on your setting.

Either way, it's hard to say a lot about the shapes because the most interesting stuff (for gaming AND geography!) is missing. We would need at least the basic mountain ranges and perhaps also the biggest rivers, if you want to include these.
  6. The world we live in today is really hell.
See that's what was bothering me was the world didn't make sense, so I may make 3 different maps instead.

just need to add tress and mountains but is it good?
  7. @TidusMK I like the looks, but I have no idea what "Laden" means in this context. And I assume that "Ende" is end or exit? Is Laden "continue" in German? If so, is this a mix of English and German? Because "Start" and "Option" looks like English. But maybe that is German too?

The options are most likely in German. Laden actually means Load (both in German and Dutch). Tho dont pin me on it cause a lot of european countries (west and north at least) are very similar in that regard

My thought is that you're looking at your game backwards. Everyone seems to do this starting out and I'm a relative newbie (guilty too). You want to make a big expansive world, so the thought is "I'll map out the world, put the towns and villages in there, then put the houses in, then the villagers."

My advice would be, build a house (internals), build the village around it, put some characters in it and create a some sort of very short and contained story (treat it like an intro). This will teach you how shockingly long it takes to program a game. Keep things small and simple.

I've been piecing together my game using something called "parallax mapping", so things take a hell of a lot of time for me. It's taken me nearly a year so far just to put the external maps together and I've got plenty more to do (just maps). Think small, learn your limits, your imagination will constantly push you beyond them. RPG maker is billed as a fun, cutesy endeavour where everyone can make a game. In reality it's hard and demoralizing battle. Very few make it out alive. It sounds bleak, but we all know how the payoff will feel, if we make it.
  10. Finished the map. Now for the other two.
  11. Struggling trying to idealize a crystal mine. I feel like MZ's RTP is the most restictive when it comes to this stuff.

The first one is the map leading to it, I struggle with like making multi level maps. I find it odd everything feels one dimensional

  12. I didn't take much time to make this, but I feel like if you had unnatural flooring it would make it feel better to you instead of having a lot of straight walls and square rooms.
  13. Inspired by some of Kez's suggestions on page 73 of this thread, I decided to make a start on my barren wastelands. The idea to create half sized cliffs for more subtle elevation really grabbed me.

This isn't finished of course. Nothing I post ever is. I intend to suggest a forested area to the east and a beach to the west. No doubt I'll add lots of extra junk like smouldering fires, bones and bodies as this is a battleground.

One thing that I'm good at is blending textures and breaking up repetition. I want my game maps to transition smoothly between one another. I think I've really nailed my technique for transitioning textures (particularly cliff textures) now. I hope people enjoy how the the muddy textures in the south-west seamlessly blend into the volcanic textures in the north-east.

  14. Something I've been messing with, a side scrolling game with parallax mapping. I used Galv's parallax layers to get the three layers you see here.

  15. New industrial zone for my project, inspired by the cyberpunk aesthetic of Blade Runner.

  16. @Raony That looks so sick! :LZSooo: To me, it's the perfect blend of stuff to add visual interest while still being clear about where the path and doors etc are. Looks like something I wanna play so bad.
  17. The prototype of a card game I'm developing. Many things are placeholders as it's in a very early stage. At the moment, I'm creating it in my native language, but I plan to translate it for the finished project.

Don't mind Reid and the animals, I need them for testing. They won't be in the final project.
  18. Here are some other maps I made for my mini OC game
For a young girl who dreams a true lover >w<

  19. @SnowHermit I love the look and feel of these maps! And I love the shaped bushes in the outdoor map!

Just two little things that stood out from the still images.

#1 The bed seems quite small compared to other items and the character.

#2 The lamp posts seem a bit oddly placed with four along the back and then two placed strangely together.

But these are things a player might never even notice while playing.

    Fantastic job!

    Thanks for your appreciation! o(* ̄︶ ̄*)o
Actually, I found that the bed's width seems even shorter than the character's head XD So next time I will do a little extra work to make sure that the bed can accomadate the character >x<
The two lamp is for those who picnic on the carpet I think ~
