This is a particular recent map that I'm fond of - it was so fun experimenting with snow elements. :kaojoy:

This reminds me of jrpg in PS1! Very neat! Good job bro!

    Did you buy the tileset?
  2. @thepsyche gorgeous as usual. Your game is visually stunning.
@Neonzumi oh fiddle cheesesticks! how did I miss this. This looks adorable.
  3. How do you guys locate specific map screenshots? Google Images work but they're not exhaustive. Like if I want to locate a lake map with "rpgmaker map lake" Google Images results are all over the place. If I have to I can scan all 21K+ posts but maybe you guys know a more efficient way to do that.

@Kes Your mapmaking suggestions are amazing! Is that all experience and intuition? Do you follow any sort of guidelines or checklists to make your analysis more efficient?

Btw where did Game & Map Screenshots 2 go?
  4. @opisthoteuthis Sadly, unless the person labels them specifically there is no way to pick up an individual location map. Few people do. I, for example, am likely to say: "Here's the town I'm working on at the moment" and that way of identifying the map is pretty common. All you can do is a fast scroll. One way to speed that up is to reduce the magnification of your browser so that more of the page appears on your screen. You can then scroll more quickly just keeping an eye out for whatever you are looking for.

Screenshots 2 is listed in the first post of this thread. If it doesn't connect, then I have no idea where it's gone.

Thank you for your kind words about my suggestions. It's experience and intuition, coupled with close observation. I've never used a check list. I know how rough my early maps were (I'd love to have the time to go back and remap my first commercial game) so I'm using what I have learnt over the years. I rely a lot on other forum members to help me with coding queries because I'm useless at code, so I try and repay that by answering here when I can.
  5. Reworking the sprites and tilesets in my game, and am liking how it's coming together! (This is only a test map BTW)

Haven’t seen any other replies so I will offer something With the caveat that I am not good at mapping and I really don’t like world maps in general. At least not RPG Maker world maps.

What are all the colored circle things?

The huge chests seem odd compared to the buildings or cities or whatever those tiles are.

Many similar tiles together look odd when the tiles look like they are intended to be towns or cities or whatever.

As a player, this sort of world map would confuse me.

But, conceptually, looking beyond the specific tiles that seem out of place, I like the overall design.

Not sure if that helps or if that is what you were looking for.
  7. For a test map, that's looks really great, I love the atmosphere.

Back years ago there was a game I think by Nelderson that you moved around the map board game and roll style.
I am testing implementing that style of movement on my map.
The huge chest and colored switches are spaces to land on and determine rewards, battles, and locations.
This is a way old map, they are just to cover a certain area, I had to go back and custom build a lot of my towns and locations.

So you roll and move around the map like a board game.
Here is a more updated map.
None of the customized/Parallax map is shown yet.
I also included a shot of the map events just for clarification.
Its all based upon a world map I drew long ago!
  9. One of those unplanned doodles that gets a little outta hand.

  10. @ephesus Well done Glendaal!:kaoluv: I get instant Equinox vibrations, just add some spikes! It's a very cool concept, what wuz you plannin' to do with it? Also, your use of shadow pen makes errything look like it's floating - not necessarily a bad thing, but depending on what your aims were, I'd look into that!

@Kes said it better and in more detail than I cud! :wub
  11. @ephesus Something has gone a bit wonky on your perspective here

The hedging that is sitting on the second step up from the right has its bottom tile showing. The 'step' has its end tile showing. That means the chunk coming down is not resting on anything. Compare the hedging on the right side. One or other of these end pieces needs to be click+shift mapped to create the impression that it is continuing.

I am also utterly confused by your shadowing. Take the big shadows falling on the right of the hedges. It is stepped in shape - but that doesn't match the shape given by the tiles. And then we have the bottom shadow in the snip I've posted. The direction of the shadow has now reversed. The stepping in it implies that it is being case by the hedges above it, but if there is a shadow there, it would be a simple straight edged shape cast by the big block.
  12. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so then what's a video worth? Here's something really cool I implemented for a side quest.

  13. @Ninjakillzu it looks goofy in a good way, 'cuz you can try to stop the goons in funny positions, and they're like, "Lights on. CANNOT MOVE." I like it, dumb videogame silliness like this makes my heart smile!:kaoluv: Plus, your maps look cool, I'm always admirin' them!

Also oh my god, but does one of ya dudes have "street warrior" as a class name? :kaojoy:
  14. @Ninjakillzu Very cool concept. I like it.

Just one thing. If this isn't just a quick placeholder/concept design, I would suggest implementing different dialog text for the patrolling sprites. When the lights come back on, I would have them say something. Then, when the lights go back off, I would have them say something that indicates they recognize that the lights were off before.

I wouldn't go crazy. But I would probably set up maybe 3-4 different things that they say as the lights keep going on and off.

I might even make the dialog random after the first time so there is the appearance of variety. Or maybe even make the first dialog random too so different players could get different initial dialog.

Just a thought and I completely understand if that sort of thing isn't your focus or preference.

But I really like the concept. It is very interesting and I like the mapping too!

Yeah, Street Warrior is a class that can be played!

  17. Sorry all had to delete this, I was so excited about maps but decided it wasn’t a good idea to share. Sorry!!
