  1. Hello!
So I bought some new tilesets and i decided to make some maps with said tilesets. and I was wondering how i could improve my map making abilities so if anyone has any critiques they would like to send my way that would be great! The images are below.
    (Tilesets made by Starbird resources)
(Note: the grass/sand tiles are from the default MV tileset)

(Note: the floor tiles are from the SF Dungeon tileset for VX ace)

  2. So I'll start with the negative stuff and finish with the good stuff.

    BAD:
    - SHADOWS! First thing that comes to mind... SHADOWS! You need shadows lol. There's a tool for that in MV! Should be simple to add.
    - The exterior maps feel empty (the inside map is great). Need more foliage, so some grass and plants. You could even add village stuff like barrels, clothes, jars, graveyard, etc. I'd say the grass and plants are more important though.
    - I don't get the big red tree in the second map. More specifically, what's the black spot the tree is on?

    GOOD:
    - The layout is really well done, something that not a lot of people get right. Bravo.
    - Trees. You got the "random" aspect of the foliage right.
    - Water: very well placed, feels natural, the variation in the water is great.

I believe the big red tree is in some sort of pool of water.

Hey, I've been creating maps of quite a size that have been building a huge world for several months. I almost managed to finish the desert island, which is 9600x12800 pixels in size and consists of 12 dimension maps 3200x3200 each. I do not create paralaxes, everything is done in the editor using graphics from RPG Maker XP, which are edited by me.
And here's how it all presents itself in reduced sizes :)

HOLY CRAP! That's gotta be one of the best maps I've ever seen in RPG Maker. Extremely impressive!
  5. @Veres Just how laggy do those maps get, because with how slow XP already is, I can't imagine it running all that smoothly. >.<; It'd be nice to get some close-in shots to get a proper look at the mapping, too. From afar it looks okay, but you never know. It's certainly a huge accomplishment though!

The harvest system in my game Herba and the Song of Spring. It's all event based and uses regions to mark areas for harvesting. The items you get depend on what is in that area, and the amounts are semi-random, based on how many of the types of plant/etc are in the designated area.
  6. So I've been working on some maps and would love some feedback on them :)

The first two maps are part of a Chapter House, the rest are from a ruined castle. Lemme guys know what you think :)

As I wrote, one large map consists of 12 smaller maps and is created in a special editor, not the standard RPG of Makera XP, and when it comes to lags in the game itself, maps are located on a special engine that is proprietary and everything works smoothly. I throw 3 maps from a closer perspective :)

  8. @Veres When you say that "maps are located on a special engine" that makes it sound like the game isn't run from the editor. But perhaps I've misunderstood?
  9. Hi, I'm new here, here is a screenshot I'm working with

  10. @SinCrescent well hello new person :) As for the screenshot I love the black & white, gritty feel it has, however some of the black lines are running through the colored EP/HP bars and that might make it less legible so maybe have those more on top. Also the grey to the right is a bit bland, imo, and takes away from the overall look but that's just personal opinion :)

Thanks for reply, actually those black line is an animated effect depends on character sanity, less sanity more black line and noise effect

If character sanity is fine the animated effect wouldn't appear

the grey to the right is window inventory, I have same opinion with you, still try to improve it, thank you :)
  12. I decided to create my first rain effect in Photoshop. Unfortunately, the quality of the video is a bit weird, but I hope it's not too messy

I do not create maps in the basic RPG Maker XP editor, because first there are very few layers there and larger maps do not look good. I have my own mapping program working on the same principle as the prototype only with the difference that you can extract 8 layers and save the map file directly in PNG, where the image does not lose its quality. How well did you see that such maps took place are being imported into the proprietary engine of the Polish MMORPG game. Each such map takes 50 MB.
PS. sorry for my bad english :)
  14. @Veres Under no circumstances whatsoever can you use that map in another engine. It is a strict and non-negotiable element of the EULA that the assets can only be used in a RPGMaker engine which you legally own. I strongly urge you to find another tile set which does allow you to do that, otherwise you risk having your game taken down.

I'm in the process of substituting my own tile graphics, the basic ones are so that the project does not stay in place. I know perfectly about copyright and no guidelines have been broken.
  16. Sooooo, you're not using RPG Maker and you're not using the tiles. But you're posting on an official forum for RPG Maker; you can't advertise your game here, you can't get help finding resources or making your game here, and trying to do any of those things will only cause confusion. What's the point of posting here?
  17. Sample Lava Dungeon.png

Shared this image today in my project thread, but wanted to share it here too. First time I actually have a screenshot to share so figured I might as well. Lava will smack some life out of you if you walk onto it, and the enemy begins a classic battle encounter if you touch it.

It's been really fun working with this tileset at least!

This is done in RPG Maker MV.
  18. i hope i didn't missed the party, today i've checked all the Game & Map screenshots from 1 - 10, find myself some real good maps there and im stopped at Game & map screenshot 9, page 2, there lies @Dizzledorfs's farm map and i was bit impressed looking at the bottom field with mud-looking farm field that Dizzledorfs made there, and i remembered that i discovered that pic since 8 months ago, and using the tiles for some maps that i've done, untill now. and here im shocked and dead wondering around, searching all the RTP tileset and some other free-to-use tilesets finding out whose tileset is that, and where did i got it from, LOL guys please enlighten me, i dont want my game project got Copyrighted LOL for im afraid its not some free-to-use tilesets. (and i hope this reply of mine, posted on the right forum)

in case i still don't find whose mud tileset is that, im going to edit my map, changing the dirt

Thanks! Really appreciate it! You can even walk in it (you do take damage however).
