  1. Alright, just gonna wade in here to say: they're obfuscated, and VisuStella aren't going to change that, sorry. If you don't want your systems to look a particular way because you can't edit the obfuscated code, then either commission someone to do it for you or learn to do it yourself.

It's already been mentioned in the main FAQ post that VisuStella makes these plugins for their own games, and you are downloading their private work. They have no responsibility to provide their unobfuscated code to anyone, whether you like that or not. It's not their responsibility to let you peek at their code so you can learn from it or whatever.

Don't like it, don't download it. No one is forcing you to eat the glass shards cookie. Go pay someone to make you a cookie without any glass in it.
  2. @Caz, all of you adults here are really funny. Now, I have to unlearn do not eat stuff from @The Stranger. I like free cookies, but I think some people have food allergies like shellfish and peanut allergy. So the children should get the apple with the blade now lol. Also do not get chocolate to the dog.

"Yes, chocolate is toxic to dogs (and cats!). While rarely fatal, chocolate ingestion can result in significant illness. Chocolate is toxic because it contains a chemical called theobromine, as well as caffeine."

My dog loves chocolate. He once ate half a box of cocoa powder and barely noticed it. Massive petted lump that he is.

@Anyone It is kinda hostile, though. You have people creating threads in which all they're doing is lamenting the end of the community, acting like divas, and saying how they'll never create plug-ins for MZ at all because of this.

Before the release of MZ, I saw quite a few coders in favour of commercialising plug-ins. Commercialised products need to be protected in some form. If that protection comes in the form of obfuscation, then so be it. It's effectiveness is another story entirely.
I can't speak for others. I know that most of the time, there's hostile people on either side, but they're usually not the main voices, nor the important ones.

I also can't argue whether other people are in favor of commercialising plugins or not.
But just because something is commercial doesn't mean it has to be protected through extra measures. By default, what you do is protected by copyright. Automatically.

I'm an author and a game dev. Guess where my books are gonna end up? Or the games I make?
I accept that I can't control everything, that someone will always find some way, and instead of having the people who consume my work have to deal with the fallout, I don't let that stop me, or let myself get controlled by paranoia. It is what it is.

There have been many commercial plugins before that didn't need to be obfuscated. Obfuscation is not necessary to have a commercial product, it's a deliberate choice on the side of the plugin creators.
A choice they're quite within their rights to make, like so many other things in life.

Fair point. Though, of course, it was financed supposedly with the money Yanfly collected to "support the future for free" from patrons who wanted to support a free and continuous plugin base. Seems like they instead supported VisuStella's own plugins and are now graciously allowed to use them, too.
Though that's, of course, a lot of the same people who supported yanfly because he released his plugins for free and wanted to reward him for that...before the paywall came up.

Well, it is what it is.

If it helps people make games they enjoy, great.
Personally, I forsee more and more obfuscation in the future that'll drive the community apart and I lost my interest in developing plugins for MZ in part (though not entirely) because of this recent development.

Who knows, maybe in a year I'll be proven wrong and everything's working nicely and people are providing lots of awesome plugins and only the VisuStella stuff is obfuscated. We can all hope, can't we?
  5. I'm going to put a moratorium on the whole obfuscation thing. All it is doing is getting people upset and no one is changing their mind. I think we all need to just take enough time to gain perspective on today. We're still a community, so please act like it.

Also, the definition of moratorium includes this is temporary. I just want people to drop it for the moment. That includes not making jokes at the expense of people on either side. Let's just talk about the plugins themselves, uses, bugs, etc. Thanks. This includes the entire site for the moment.

I think from a PR point of view, I'd be much smarter to just have one thread where people can discuss the stuff until everyone's tired of the discussion and people move on.

Not sure the way the staff's coming down on every thread, whether there's arguments or not, is the right way to go about it.
  7. ... Just came to say that I really appreciate the work you guys are doing, even with all that people say, I think you all are doing the Lords job. Please keep the nice work!

Now I shall leave, before haters get me too :kaoback:

I said drop it. See rule 14.

  9. I have an idea. Why don't we all go make great games in MZ instead for a day or two? Crazy right?

I dont even own MZ and I agree with that xD
Lets Just all focus on our own stuff for a sec.
  11. Some suggestions I think are worth passing on to this thread:

    1. Event emitters, to have the option to use those in addition to paramters

    2. Having some "aliasable" hooks to add our own code to
  12. Um, I'm looking through them and they're a lot more customizable than we give credit for, other than the battle core. As a matter of fact, I've modified the base RMMZ code so that the help window is one line (rmmz_windows.js #1110) and in non-battle menus I still get just the one line as intended.

Pardon the screenshot, but I just want to show an example showing that not all hope is lost. This would have had to be modded in the MV counterpart for instance:
    Untitled.png

It is with battles that it's a different story. That's just a jarring exclusion at this point, but you otherwise have plenty of control with menu adjustments. Again, here's to hoping for future additions to battle window visuals in the future.

Also friendly reminder if you use the large portraits in the status screen but go for an option that uses the regular face sets in the main menu to please have the large portraits pre-loaded through the Core Engine. If you don't, you'll have to move to another option in the status menu for the portrait to load. IE go to Elements to General.

    Don't anger the fuzz. :kaoback:

I am not going to lie, i am actually scared.
  14. Now you've done it!

    SF_Armygorilla.png

That image is included as a battler with MZ BTW.
  15. Awesome work guys, I have always loved your hardwork and awesome product. I had a question about some of the assess on your site. Do things like your character generator work for mz as well? Not sure what created items carry over.
  16. Well anyway....
I've already ran into a problem with the Message Core.
Was working find til it suddenly gave me the error -
"Invalid regular expression: /\b-----????\b/: Nothing to repeat"
Still trying to figure out the cause. Just can't seem to figure out if its something I changed in the Database or Plugin itself. Though it started happening aftering I started working on the database.
  17. Just wanted to report a bug with the Battle Core. States don't display properly in the "List" battle layout if you disable faces. They'll still show to the left of the actor names but appear mostly cut off. This can be replicated in the sample project.

Hi @DJK1NG_Gaming if you decide this might be a bug and not something you've done, can you please go through the steps here:

Troubleshooting Plugins RPG Maker MZ - Yanfly.moe Wiki
and if you still can't solve it, submit it so the team can take a look?

Fixed it myself for now. Decided to start and new project and transfer somethings over.
That fixed the problem. Now I will know eventually what cause it if it occurs again.

Thank for that link. I use it for future references.
  19. oh - actually I think that link is in the first post in this thead :D
