Howdy! I'm Trid, and I like playing RM games.
I'll play your game and provide feedback/a reivew free of charge.
This is also where I'll post my reviews.
Please read everything. below.
What I won't play
-Any AI. Don't try to get around it. I will know. That includes using AI to write text, create pictures, or compose music. Not having it.
-Commercial games, unless there's a demo or I get a free key. Don't take it personally, I do not buy that many games.
When submitting a game, please-
-PM me or post on this thread, either is fine
-Include a link to a game page on steam, itch, or equally safe website. No onedrive or googledrive folders. I don't want to get a virus.
-Let me know whether you want a review or not. I'll give feedback on every game I play, but reviews are optional. I'll post it here and on whatever website it's on.
-You can request footage of my playthrough. Do this before I play it. It'll just be a recording of my screen, and won't include any audio.
-Please be patient. I might have 6 games lined up, or none. It's really inconsistent, however...
-Don't be afraid to poke me if I haven't played your game yet. If it's been a month and I still haven't done it, just remind me. I forget about things.
Take note that-
-I'm not that intelligent and don't play a lot of classic JRPGs
-I'll try to finish every game I play (assuming it's a reasonable length), but if I get stuck or get frustrated, I might quit.
-Don't take it personally. If I come across as harsh, I'm sorry. I rarely want to make any indie dev feel bad. I hope my feedback helps make your game better. That's the goal.

I'm back!
Couldn't really find anything to play, so I might as well help out some fellow game makers.
New rule! No VN's or Horror games -
Recommended :) I got very friendly, helpful and objective feedback.
-
-
Thanks! But as mentioned, I already played that game. Sorry.
-
Um. Update I guess. Some stuff came up today. Personal stuff, and I uh, don't really know how things are gonna turn out. Gotta close it again.
For the two people who I already said I would playtest for, I'll try to get to it. But not tomorrow, probably. I'm getting blood work done and I'm a bit nervous.
Anyway, sorry, and hopefully everything works out. -
Woah, keep us in the loop. Hope all goes well!
-
So, it's been a while.
While you may have noticed me playtesting games, I wanted to change the way I've been doing it.
Playtesting is a very important part of game design. Unfortunately, not a lot of people 1: Want to do it 2: Have time to do it 3: Are able to give helpful feedback.
After a bit of a break, I've started prowling around again, checking out the new games and trying to get to them. Something has always bothered me.
I enjoy writing, and I kinda turn my feedback into a mini review. However, the issue is that sometimes I feel kinda bad when I'm tearing into someone's game and sharing it publicly. So, I want to start separating my reviews from feedback.
Feedback will be sent directly to the dev and will be private. It's gonna just be objective, straight feedback. Bugs, balance issues, what to fix, and what to keep.
Reviews are going to be my subjective experience. There might be overlap (Ie, bugs could impact my enjoyment of the game).
I'll edit my OG post, but here's the new "rules". (Also mods, if you need to move this, I totally get it)
What I won't play
-Games that would break the forums rules. Basically, no porn/nudity, no excessive violence or gore, and no CurrentPoliticsSim2024
-Anything hateful towards any group/religion. That doesn't mean that, iunno, you can't have a racist character, I mean a game that's purpose is to bash a group of people.
Take note that-
-I'm biased. Very. You could probably squeeze out a 10/10 review from me if you put an anime girl with a straw hat in your game. If you don't agree with me, that's fine. My opinion doesn't invalidate yours.
-I did not grow up with turn based RPGs. Nostalgia bait ain't gonna work, and I'm not familiar with the tropes or common mechanics. That might mean that I do stupid things when I'm playing your game. I'm sorry, that's just me.
-I'll try to finish every game I play (assuming it's a reasonable length), but if I get stuck or get frustrated, I might quit.
-Don't take is personally. If I come across as harsh, I'm sorry. I rarely want to make any indie dev feel bad. I hope my feedback helps make your game better. That's the goal.
Anyway, onto my first proper review.
I found this one when I was defending a dev who was getting insulted on a discord. I said I'd try their game...and I really regret that, lol. Sorry, dev, if you're here.
The MisAdventures of Xenos
(I did not buy the game, I played a bit of the demo.
The Misadventures of Xenos describes itself as "a hilarious, turn-based RPG parody. Full of crude humor, meta jokes, and retro graphics, enjoy a fresh take on classic RPGs".
To me, it's everything RPG Maker pet peeve in a package.
Story
SpoilerThe story follows a princess named Fayne. She escapes the castle against her parents will to meet up with her BF(?) Xenos. Xenos gets pulled into a demon realm or somemat accidentally and Fayne has to save him.
From there, all of my time was spent hopping from one place to another trying to find out a way to get to Xenos.
I didn't really get a sense of the world while I was playing. It was the generic bright green RTP fantasy kingdom.
I was kinda holding on to the hope that there might be some good characters/writing.
Yeah, I don't know.
There was barely any characterization of the Fayne and Xeno. After a while, I sorta got the impression that Fayne was real independent woman who wasn't afraid to curse and other un-princess like behavior. As for Xenos, he left too quickly.
The other side character were flat and forgettable, aside from the red headed kid who's name escapes me. And the only reason I remember him was because only makes dick jokes.
The humor don't hit. Everything's a tired meta reference or a low brow sex joke.
Gameplay
SpoilerI don't really have much to say. Every battle is spam attack to win. After a while, you unlock a basic healing spell and another party member with a double hit skill.
Balance is way off. You have like 700 HP and enemy attacks max out at like 20 damage.
There are way too many enemies. This was a single room in a large forest map.
That's six enemies (not counting the one on the left)
It gets really tiring after a while.
Also, there are chests that give 5 gold, but killing the basic enemies gives 20.
Audio
SpoilerAll default sounds and music. Please, please, please, use some other music. I'm so sick of those RTP songs.
Polish, Performance, and Nitpicks
SpoilerWhen you launch the game, it takes up the entire screen. As a side effect, things aren't scaled properly. Stuff is really pixely, and there are black lines sometimes.
There's a ton of lag, and I usually don't have issues running RM games.
The window color is a lovely bright purple, which really helped reading those long sentences with small text.
Sometimes, the game would just get stuck. At first I thought it was my computer, but everything else was running fine.
Bug where the tileset just disappeared.
Lots of possibility bugs
You might wonder why I'm listing all of this stuff, cuz it definitely falls under the dev feedback category.
This is a commercial game. These are a ton of little bugs and issues that just make it feel less professional, and it's already on my naughty list cuz of the RTP.
If you make a product and are trying to sell it, you've got to squash bugs like this. If I had bought this, I would have refunded within a few minutes.
Overall, I did not enjoy my time playing this game.
It lacks polish, has mind numbing combat and the story and characters are equally forgettable.

MV - [Online] RPGmod - 1.3.3 - Multiple bug fixes
RPG Mod
Sorry folks, I gotta come up with a better template.
I realized I never even touched on graphics in the last review. Anways.
Story
Haha, no spoiler here! There is none! :XP1:
This is an online game, and unless I'm super stupid or it's hidden, there's no story or characters as far as I can tell.
Not that that's an issue. Sometimes it's nice to just play a game.
Graphics
I once again don't have much to say. It's the MV RTP used inoffensively.
Gameplay
SpoilerSo, there were three modes. There were no servers so I had to play offline.
Tower Defense 1 did not seem to work. Iunno, I spawned turrets....but the enemies didn't die.
Tower Defense 2 did work, and I was able to reach level 12.
The gameplay was fine, I suppose. I'm not a fan of tower defense games. I had so many turrets after a while that the game became a cakewalk until it got to the new level, and I lost all my stuff.
Enemies didn't react to getting hit, which was weird. I had a hard time telling if stuff was working or not.
The last mode, VS Twitch, was a little broken, I think. I was able to do everything, but when the slimes spawned, I couldn't kill them.
I know it's supposed to be online, but the pacing was really slow, and there was a lot of time spent waiting for the next minigame.
I liked the controls, actually. It was nice to be able to use my Xbox controller.
Music and Sound
Music was not always RTP, but not specifically memorable either. Solidly ok.
Polish, Performance, and Nitpicks
SpoilerThe game ran fine. I will say, the transitions in and out of games was nonexistent. Like, it was just like "yo! You're playing the game now!", and then when you die, it just zips you back to the menu.
Overall, I think this game needs some work. Online games need players. To get players you have to advertise to get people in, and have fun gameplay to keep people coming back.
The single player content was too short and not interesting enough for me to get someone else to play the multiplayer with.

Dungeon Rummage: Tiquee's Escape
Please note that I did not finish the game. My final playtime is 1 hour, 40 minutes.
I'm not sure how much I had left, but I was stuck and I just wanted to finish the review.
Story
SpoilerWhile I wasn't particularly invested in the story or characters, I do have to say that is was unique. RPG Maker games tend to stick to that classic "defeat the demon king and save your girl" idea. I don't think I've ever seen a game where you play as a goblin mechanic trying to escape to the surface. So yeah, points for that. Other than it being unique, as mentioned, I didn't really care for the main character. Besides a two shopkeeping goblins and a random girl in a bunny suit, I didn't encounter any other characters after I left the starting area.
Graphics
SpoilerWow, I can finally talk about something, even though it does use some RTP. First off, the mapping was really good. Looked good, played well, and generally was above average. My only complaint would be that there isn't a ton of variation between areas.
While the custom art was very nice, there is a bit of inconsistency. Most of the enemies are in a different artstyle from the player and their robots. Then, I fought a typical JRPG party as a boss (this is where I got stuck), who used the RTP battlers. It's not horrible, it's just frustrating.
Gameplay
SpoilerThe TL;DR is that I hated the combat and liked everything else.
Exploration was the highlight, for me. It's just really fun to run around and pick up stuff. It's quick, snappy, and satisfying. The currency/economy is really well balanced, which is something that I think people undervalue.
Now, the combat.
I didn't really mind most enemy encounters. I liked that you could run away from them in the overworld. However, they got a bit old after a while, and I started skipping most of them.
There were some minor nitpicks, such as some skills just feeling really useless, such as the one that slows the enemy down. Agility/Speed is such a hard stat to really use well, so I get it, but there's no real reason to use it.
The bosses are what really drove me up the wall.
Two examples that stuck out to me were:
1: The spider boss summoned smaller enemies and gave a state that reduces your hit rate.
My main issue with this is that lowering the hit rate leaves too much up to chance. It feels like your just wasting time and resources as you wait for the state to be removed. Or, you can continue to play aggressively and sometimes get lucky.
Summoning the spiders is just annoying. It's just adding more healthbars and splitting your damage. I wouldn't mind it as much if the boss didn't use it multiple times.
2: The JRPG Party Quad-battle with the healer and the rage state
This is where I got stuck and lost it.
4 enemies with large HP bars, a healer character that can not only heal anyone in the party, but also cast a group heal skill. I tried focusing exclusively on the healer, since she seemed to have the lowest Hp, and that's my usual start. Unfortunately, it doesn't really work, because 1: Your bots will attack whoever they feel like 2: One of the enemies gives a "rage" state that makes you attack at random. I was only able to get the healer down to about 1/5 of their HP before I died. I tried the boss a few more times, but with no luck.
It's possible I needed to be a higher level, but I don't know. It felt very out of my control.
Music and Sound
SpoilerThe music was fine. To be honest, after a while, I just muted the BGM and put on my own playlist. I do do this for a lot of games, if I don't feel the music adds much, so this isn't some weird insult, I promise.
The sound design was actually really good. UI sounds and the little noises it makes when you pick up material are snappy and pleasant. I really appreciate this.
Polish, Performance, and Nitpicks
Not much to say here, besides the game ran fine and there was only really one polish issue.
The game over screen is the default one stretched out. I don't know if this is intentional or not, but it was kind of like a jumpscare, lol.
Someone said that my scoring system wasn't good, so guess what, we're adding a rubric! It's just as arbitrary, but now we can break it down, I guess.
Updated the others so it doesn't look like I gave this the same score as the Xenos game, lol.
Basically, every category gets a score between -2 and 2. Add it all up in the end and that's the overall score. So...
(BTW, the personal point is just kind of a "did I like the game point")

Looks like you got stuck on the final boss, which is a first from the people I've seen. I can only guess your bots must've been heavily underleveled/you never found the bazooka mod for sentry, which would've probably made your live against the spider way easier too.Heh...yeah, @SGHarlekin, here it is, finally.

Knowing it's the final boss, I might give it another shot if I have the time. -
Cause and Effect
2k/3 - Cause and Effect
Finally getting these done, woohoo!
Story
SpoilerI'll be honest, didn't care for it. You, the player (I named my character "Woman", as I usually do), are tasked to track down a lost girl. The demo is pretty short, so there wasn't a whole lot. However, I can really see the undertale inspiration, and I wasn't a fan.
As I play more games, I think I've found that I don't actually like games with lots of branching narrative choices. For example, I was given the choice to randomly kill this lady or recruit her. I don't really know why anyone would choose to kill unless you were going for the "psycho JRPG villain" route.
Graphics
SpoilerI have mixed feelings about this. Overall, I thought it was a very cool vibe. Reminded me of when I turned on high contrast mode in windows XP. The black background with bright basic colors was really cool. The character sprites and battlers were pretty charming, although I felt the enemies were a bit lacking.
However, where it went downhill is in the tilesets and NPC's. NPC's art style didn't always match the characters, and have a different color scheme. The tiles were really inconsistent. I'm not 100% positive, but I'm pretty sure I saw some rips from A Link to the Past. Regardless, the tiles did not blend with the characters.
Gameplay
SpoilerUnfortunately, the combat was a bit basic. Most to all battles could be won by spamming attack, and you didn't have many other skills. It's an ATB, so everything takes forever.
This wouldn't be that bad, but the random encounters are so friggin' high. Encounters can occur like 3 steps after your last one. The maps aren't small either, and it takes a while to use the escape command. It got really tiring after a while, and if this isn't changed, it would be a deal breaker.
Music and Sound
SpoilerThe soundtrack for the game was fine. Never got annoying, and I thought it fit very well. Sound effects were fine as well. I think the soundtrack is original, so I appreciate that.
Polish, performance, nitpicks
Nothing here besides it's a rm2k game, so the font was hard to read and I had to use the installer.
Overall, the demo didn't quite grab me, but I think the dev has a lot of potential.

A lot of good points here that I’ll take into consideration. The tiles are slightly edited from the RTP, there aren’t any rips used in this game. I am working on replacing them, but it’s been slow going. A couple of your points could be attributed to the fact that the demo is so short, so there’s not a lot of variety to the gameplay yet. The elemental rock-paper-scissors isn’t really in play yet, because of the lack of magic skills, a lot of which get learned as the game goes on. Ultimately, I agree with most of these points, and it’s great to have these brought to my attention. Thanks for the review.
-
@TESTOSTERONE no, each category can get a score between -2 and 2.
@Litningman06 ah, good to hear there are no rips. My mistake :kaoangry: Good luck! -
Aw heck, we've got a new batch.
After this I might have another, although I think reviewing it would be equivalent to dousing the forum in gasoline, and throwing matches at it, hoping to hit the dry spots.
Anyway, we've got @Drewster237 's aptly named "Drew's Adventure" demo
RMMZ - Drew's Adventure
Story
SpoilerThe story for the game was kind of like a spiral in to chaos. You start by having a nightmare, but one thing leads to another, and before you know it, you're at a furry convention, which depending on who you ask, might be the same thing.
The world and characters, they exist. I think I'll get this out of the way right now and say I don't think this game was for me. The target audience I am not.
Anyhow, I didn't feel practically attached to any of the characters in the game. Some of the characters had their moments, and I can't say I didn't laugh a little when defeated enemy's would become "toast".
However, there were too many "quirky" characters. I feel like the game lacked a straight man, as they say.
The writing was pretty good, but a little to "uwu"-y for me, although I suppose it was self aware.
As one might guess, there were a lot of furries. In fact, technically there were an infinite amount, as one of random encounters is a fursuiter.
Graphics
SpoilerI applaud Drew for drawing everything himself. I didn't notice anything from the RTP or a character pack, and it's definitely a unique style.
However, I found the colors to a bit bright a lot of the time, and it could be difficult to identify certain objects. It was never a gameplay issue, just a personal thing.
It was cool that your equipped gear sometimes affects your appearance. I do like that.
Music and Sound
SpoilerThe soundtrack was also original, and was actually quite good. The volume was at a respectable level, which is something that most RPG Maker devs can't comprehend.
I really liked the dialogue sounds. It gave each character a "voice", and it was pretty charming.
The only thing is, the soundtrack does not always loop properly, which is a bit frustrating.
Gameplay
SpoilerThe gameplay was a mixed bag. Overall, I think it was a bit too easy.
The game uses an earthbound like ticking HP system. Your party shares TP, although there are few skills that require it.
I only died once, and that was because I was very underleveled.
At the start of the game, you fight the classic "???" spooky scary guy in a dream. I lost the first time, but my computer crashed in the following cutscene (another game crashed it, not Drew's).
The second time around, I won just barely. Not sure if that was intentional? It was a bit long, and I'm not a fan of those unwinnable encounters.
Anyway, you can choose to disable the random encounters, which is nice.
It took me a while to find a save spot, which is a personal pet peeve. At first, I assumed benches would be the way to save, but it's just kind of random spots.
The enemies in the demo are fairly basic, and I felt very overleveled. Most of them would go down in 2-3 hits.
For bosses, there was this sort of "second wind" mechanic, where when they died, they would come back once. I don't really know what the point was, because I think you could just double their HP and it would work the same.
In general, it felt like most of the enemies and bosses were kinda the same.
When you weren't in combat, the game felt a bit flat. I had a lot of trouble just trying to figure out where to go.
Currency system was well balanced, which I appreciate.
You heal on level up, which is a life saver.
Polish, performance, nitpicks
Nothing here, besides when you input your name, you have to use arrow keys, which is a bit slow.
Overall, I could see this game having an audience, it just wasn't there for me. -
THANKS FOR PLAYING!! :DAnyway, we've got @Drewster237 's aptly named "Drew's Adventure" demo
sorry you felt you weren't the target audience, but yeah sometimes it's just like that.
also the feedback is great! the game is a bit easier on purpose because I wanted it to be more story oriented. (but there's always monster mode if anyone wants a challenge!)
Thanks for taking your time to play my game, it means a lot :p -
Your welcome!
Right, I forgot I chose the "Normal Mode"
I do like more difficult games but I find that most games with a "Hard mode" tend to be more like "Here's an HP Brick" mode. -
Today we have @CoolBeans "Ultimate Fantasy"
This is a demo, but the full game will apparently be 5 bananas, so keep that in mind.
MZ - Ultimate Fantasy (An RPG made in RMMZ)
Anyhow, on to the review.
Story
SpoilerI don't have much to say. The characters are very flat and uninteresting. The only person that had personality was Gale, the protag, but his whole shtick was being a jerk and wanting money. The story makes sense, at least, which is more than some do, but I didn't care to see where it went
Graphics
RTP so no comment, really. The bright blue windowskin was a little hard on the eyes, and when it showed scrolling text, it was hard to read. There are some visual issues that I'll get to in the polish section.
Music and Sound
Once again, not much. Not all the songs were RTP, and the non-RTP were inoffensive. The UI sounds did hurt my ears (not joking), which is partially my fault because I got new headphones.
Gameplay
SpoilerWhen the dev mentioned his practice for testing the game, he wasn't kidding. The game has zero balance whatsoever.
You start out with a single part member. You only have an attack, defend, and cover move, (which is useless at this point). The first small area has random encounters. If you do not fight at least 2, the boss fight in the next room is impossible. Enemies are tanky, and since it's an ATB, everything takes longer than it needs to. There's so much waiting around while nothing happens, and God forbid they stun you.
After that fight, I ended up getting three other party members. One of them I found by accident, and she was a healer, so I pity anyone who missed her.
Aside from chests, nothing is interactable.
The dungeon in the cave was very large and open. Sometimes, you would travel down a path and get attacked 3-5 times, only to find a chest with some money in it. While most of the enemies are easy but tedious to fight, there is a dog that can nearly oneshot your entire party with a move. I stopped playing after I got stuck and the "Savor" boss. I did pathetic damage, and there was no real strategy to use besides "Spam attack and heal".
Polish, performance, nitpicks
SpoilerMany, many, many spelling and grammar errors.
-"To give peace one thousand years" needs a "for" in there.
-"Rage" should not be capitalized
-It should be "You're kinda cute" not "your".
-Princess turns into king when spoken to. You'll need to set direction fix
-Minor thing, but the stone throw skill does not in fact, throw a stone
-Inconsistent use of capital letters with the word "God". Choose one and run with it.
-Lots of names taken from Final Fantasy. Most notably Gil and Phoenix Down. Don't know if they're copyrighted per se, but either way it's weird.
-The amount of ".............." was a bit annoying. You only need three to indicate a pause.
Overall, I think the dev needs to fix a ton of issues before they even begin to think about going commercial.
