Wow, those are amazing. Not my kind of thing, but it's pretty amazing artwork :)
Thanks. It took a bit of time to complete it since each and every one of them is uniquely dressed :D
  2. I've been trying to make an overworld-style tileset for a city. It seems like I'm doing something wrong (like the buildings' lots transitioning to another terrain).

Below is a test map (everything is resized 3x from 16x16):

  3. I think I may just about have my first proper map done! I deleted all of my test maps so I can begin working on the actual game. This is the home town for the player. Please tell me what you think, it's a mix of modern with a lot of green space. What I want to know is, does this look like an interesting map? What I've tried to do here is not have too many dead spaces, where those dead spaces were I have filled them with flowers and darker grass. I've also made sure to include my waterfalls and roads. I've not done the cars yet, but I have to do car sprites and then put them on the road. I've done some people, men, women and kids. I've also yet to do some animals, I should have some soon, and I intend to use a cat or dog as part of one of the first quests. I decided to use a mixture of different coloured buildings so that the town looks like an interesting place, do you think this was a good decision, or does it make it look like a complete hodge podge of competing colour schemes? I'm after an outside perspective because I want to make sure I am not getting tunnel vision and failing to see any possible issues right in front of my face. I've been working on these tilesets for a fair few weeks now, so it is just seeing them all working together fully for the first time.

  4. @StrawberryFlower, tiles look cute! Can't see what you mean about doing things wrong tho? Transitions look mostly okay to me?

@Helen1701, I get Edward Scissorhands vibes from yo colour scheme! :kaoluv: I get the feel yo game gonna be light-hearted, childlike even, with plenty of cute shenanigans.

Below is like, v1.3 of my title screen... I still fret over my font, but at least now I got a rose! :kaoswt:

Love the title screen! The martian red against the blue lady provides a lot of contrast and immediately draws my attention to her. It's interesting. And your font is great by the way, quite elegant and feminine, much like the blue lady. I like it. You're definitely a better pixel artist than me.

And yes, my game is intended to be playful. I won't be using the battle system much in the game, mostly owing to the fact I don't think that the player is going to like being interrupted by continuous battles. My game will focus on puzzles and storyline with one battle only per dungeon, unless I find a way around the turn based battle system and turn it into an action based one instead.

Gosh, I'm blushin' now! :kaothx: Thanks a ton sweetie, Imma pack things up and move on to mappin'!

Yo plan sounds good! :kaoluv: Just one battle per dungeon sounds nice, I don't want to be constantly barraged by stupid venom frogs either!

Well, I did make and test a dungeon I created with the RTP when I was learning how to use the program. I found myself getting annoyed with the battles when I was trying to get keys to unlock doors. So, I think I am going to be using battles very sparingly.
  8. @alice_gristle - Thanks, but I can't just help but think something is off.
  9. @StrawberryFlower, maybe try to get a pixel or two of tarmac between the buildings and grass? That's the only bit that looks awkward to me... maybe because that white roof and the pale green grass too close in tint?
  10. I don't know whether to use this one or not, but I've just composed a tune in onlinesequencer:

  11. Making a tileset with plant life, I'm not sure if I'll use it yet but I wanted to practice trees

  12. @Paradise-Cub, you got such strong, vibrant colours, like straight outta storybooks! Very cartoony too. I like it! :kaoluv:
  13. I'm trying to draw my own maps at once rather than make tilesets (like the Bravely Default games) and since I had no idea what I wanted to go with, I sort of made a "style test" map. It's not an actual map, but it works in the engine and it shows the kind of style I want to go with. Also, there's a blank sprite on the map to see if the size fits.
I'm still not quite sure if this is what I want to do, but I'm pretty satisfied with what I have right now.
    What do you guys think?

Complete map (might be a bit big):

  14. @BlackRoseMii, ooh, I like it, yo foliage and flowers look SO NICE. :kaoluv: Tree trunk is funky, and not sure I really like how the roots in the foreground don't have outline like the tree trunk, but otherwise yo map really soft, moody, mysterious, and lovely! Also, dat Blank Sprite Person totally a sweetie! :wub
  15. I've started working on the actual maps and I've managed to sketch the whole thing and draw a few houses today. I'm actually pretty satisfied with how it turned out. I just hope there won't be any problems later...(btw, the houses are all on their own layer, so that I can adjust their placement if necessary. That's why you can see the part of the big house behind the food stand)

    Screenshot - 12_01.png
  16. @BlackRoseMii Nice! I feel like the roof should extend from the front of the house just a bit, but that is mostly a nitpick.
  17. I've been working on some character portraits and this one is just... not right. Specifically the scowl just doesn't seem quite right. I think I need to practice some facial expressions. But for the purpose of my project, maybe this is okay. I think the hair might be overdone, too. I'd rather not totally restart...

  18. Scowl looks okay to me! :kaoswt: Hair's overdone like yeah, totally, but I like it too. Maybe the weirdest thing is, the expression says "I smell poo", while the hair says "SPIRIT BOMB" but hey, that's okay sweetie? Overall I think it's a nice portrait and certes something you can use!

    It has antagonist vibes :kaoswt2:
Also I see nothing wrong with this portrait.
  20. The hair looks very dramatic, but also more like she is underwater. Hair adheres to gravity, too :D
And the yellow highlights clash a bit with the brown main color. I would either tone the hightlights down or make the brown color more blond.
But I do like her expression, very fierce.

So, I'm struggling with this sprite.
I thought I would rework the sideview legs, but I don't know if that made the walking smoother or not:

Thoughts? I looked too long at it and now can't decide.
