  1. I was thinking of removing the outline all together but then I saw the graphic with 4 trees connected and that might make it look bad. I suppose I could change my outlines to 10 points below the shadow or I could make the shadow lighter or I could just make my outlines black.
  2. @FleshToDust Those rocks are precious indeed! In fact I just wanted to comment to tell you how great they look! ^.^ b

Personally I find rocks quite challenging to design & yours are superb. :LZSexcite:

Love your progress & how unique your game looks. I also like your character, hooded and mysterious. Really cool.

@Robert-Character Creator The hair movement of your sprite is great, nice shading on the hair as it moves :)
  3. Thanks!
  4. The hooded character rarely shows up in 2D rpgs as a hero, so this one stands out in a good way! :D

And I was so mesmerized by the rocks that I didn't even see the nice wall you made, 'til after I commented! The wall's color choice is excellent IMO.
  5. Thanks! And it looks like a wall! That makes me happy. That my game looks like a game. That you can tell what it is even without a multitude of colours.
  6. When I do the environments for my game, I'll be doing parallax mapping, and I'll have to draw each room by hand. I have a style decided upon, but I think it'll be an interesting challenge.
  7. You have a tablet right? I can't imagine drawing multiple detailed whole maps pixel by pixel. I did that for two battlebacks (though simplistic ones) and it was a big drain on me. I should buy a tablet.
  8. @FleshToDust

I own a tablet, but I don't use it, I have a blank grid I used to make a rough outline of a room, and experiment from there. Things like floorboards can be copy/pasted, but I like to individualize everything else. I do bricks one at a time with rounded corners, unique cracks, etc....

    It's a complete pain. XD

  9. @Robert-Character Creator I don't see the attachment, you might have to resubmit it.

    Edit: Ignore, it magically appeared.
  10. That's pretty advanced.
  11. Planning!! :^D

Here's a prototype of the starting room, in case you were curious about my process.

  12. Oh nice. Definitely an interesting way of doing it. So you have the size already planned out ahead of time. Sometimes I draw a basic shape of what kind of level I'm thinking of doing.
  13. It's the same concept, yes. The castle the game takes place in has been entirely planned out from top to bottom on paper, so I already know the size of each room; I just need to sketch out each room. It was definitely a challenge to find uses for each room in-game; the castle was designed without a game in mind, but realism.

Edit: I cleaned up the prototype so it's easier to look at.

  14. Cool man.
  15. Yes, actually. They're on the outside of the Inner Bailey's defensive wall, and on the Gatehouse. They existed historically on the connected Guard's Arrow Tower, before it was converted into a spiral staircase, but they were removed for safety concerns when a farming community was established on that side of the castle.

But... isn't this a bit off topic? I love chatting about this stuff, but let's do that in pms or something. I don't like being yelled at for rule breaking. :(
  16. Yeah that's true.
  17. I decided to take a break on my sprite and start mapping out the starting floor of the castle, the third floor, in full size. I'm inspired by all of the tilesets being worked on lately, honestly. The only experience I have in this is drawing test rooms, which don't translate well.

Edit: Pictures removed. The scale was off by 66%. I need to completely redo it. >.<
  18. So I'm trying to make this... Crystallized tear-drop-looking-thing that represents part of someone's soul when they die.

My first thought was to make something soul-ly or like a wisp:

    Ghost_Shard_-_Alone.png

My next idea was maybe just try and act like it's a real gem:

I'm not sold on either of them. Especially since I plan to use this large version as part of our logo.
  19. Maybe make them more white. If they're blue people may think they're enemy tears. Dark souls is a game that has souls. That could be a good reference for you.
  20. @FleshToDust - Do they have an icon or something for the souls? I can't remember. Dark Souls is a game I'm taking inspiration from when it comes to certain things already. XD
