  1. This question has been on my mind for a while... IS IT OK TO USE RTP..... if it isn't WHY, if it is WHY, and ideas?
  2. What do you even mean okay? Like will it run in rpg maker? Then yes.

This topic has been discussed ad nauseum dude, it always just devolves into the same thing. Just ask yourself this: Would you buy a game with rtp graphics? If yes, then you should have no problems adding it to your own game.
  3. I’ve merged this into our mega “monthly RTP discussion” thread.

But, yes. It’s fine. No one’s gonna jump through the computer screen and arrest you. If the game is commercial, then some consumers may become pickier. But, people sell games with stock assets all the time. It’s a decision that needs weighed against the budget and expectations of the project.
  4. I've actually wanted to do a video about the RTP for a while, but I would say this:

Come up with an idea for a game (or take one you already have) and decided what art style would best fit the game. If that is the RTP, than go for it. If not, try to make it yourself or find it online.

While RPG Maker devs are certainly sick of seeing it, you'd be surprised, the average consumer doesn't know what the RTP is.
  5. Yeah... for the game I am currently making...... the rtp actually works reallly well with the story and style, it just seems like a lot of youtubers and people say "don't use the rtp, it's really hard to make a good game with the rtp....ect".....
  6. RTP is just default out the box to use.
It doesn't matter if you use it or not tbh,

I think we all can appreciate games with genuine well put together art. Yet, for the way people use it (both for serious dev, for fun, testing, hobbying, other applications) the RTP serves fine for almost any placeholder or purpose.

What everyone wants is either fun or creativity as far as a video game goes.
But, as others pointed, RTP can be repurposed for any reason. Truly.
  7. To paraphrase what I've said before about this: think of the RTP like the box of eight crayola crayons. It will get you started, and some people can do really amazing things with just that and nothing else. Most people will want to get more colors of crayons later. Some people will switch to markers. Some people end up preferring modeling clay. All of those things are perfectly okay!

The RTP will get you started, and some people can do really amazing things with just that and nothing else. Most people will want to get more RTP-style assets later. Some people will switch to other pixel-art-style graphics, like Time Fantasy. Some people end up making their own assets from scratch. All of those things are perfectly okay!

For a hobbyist, the most important thing is that you're having fun. When you're making games to pay the bills, then you can worry about what will sell--but for now, focus on enjoying yourself and learning the engine.

(and I keep misreading my own handwriting as "farts")
  9. I WAS planning on selling this game DEPENDING on how it turns out... but idk... I'm kinda making a game based on the final fantasy series, (which I am playing through rn)
  10. @CoolBeans It might be worth noting that you need to be 18 to do financial things like selling video games to other people through platforms (presuming you intended to use Steam or itch, rather than, like, handing it to people on a thumb drive for 5 bucks).

Otherwise you'd have to go through some kind of setting up a company trust with your parents in charge until you come of legal age and garbage like that (and that's presuming they're willing to have that on their financial records, credit score, whatever).
  11. Also note that a lot of people wouldn't want to buy a thumbdrive from a random kid, as that's a great way to get a virus
  12. @ATT_Turan... that is the least of my problems...... me and my parent have already worked it out... and no offense... but that is literally none of your fricken buisness....

@CoolBeans When there are a growing number of minors using this site and we have seen within the past week people think they can do financial things when they legally can't...it is for the good of everyone's education to point these things out. And it would do for you to have some civility.

Yes it is, because it's the law, buddy
  15. BRUH.... if my parents and I have worked it out, THEN IT IS none of your buisiness because I already knew that I couldn't do that AND I HAVE WORKED IT OUT... I AM DOING NOTHING ILLEGAL @TRIDIUM and @ATT_Turan......
  16. Well we didn't know that, so he checked, it's called clarifying. No need to yell
  17. @CoolBeans You should take a minute, breathe, and calm down.

Zero people said you were doing anything illegal.

I gave you a piece of information because it appeared you did not know it. The only response that was required from you was "Thank you, I'm aware and I've spoken to my family about it."

You chose instead to take it in a different direction, and now you're dropping your "bruh" nonsense again :stickytongue:
  18. Ok.. I'm sry... I was WAY overreacted about that man, I'm sry for gettin mad...... That was stupid....
  19. That commercial discussions thread was locked before I could post. So I guess I'll shout my opinion into the void here:

Having some degree of RTP is perfectly fine. Expecting everything to be custom made is a bit excessive. Particularly for an indie game.

But you gotta realize RTP is overused by intent and generic by design. It's not going to fit your game most of the time. That's why it's bad to use as the bulk of your assets. And for a paid game I expect some amount of effort put into all parts it, including graphics, music and sound. If a person can't be bothered to shop around or at least tweak the RTP themselves, I wouldn't expect the core aspects to be good. Experience proves this to be true.
  20. Hi everyone, how are you?
    About me: (optional)
So I'm making my first game in RPG MAKER XP because since I got the software I never had enough time to finish my project, this is actually my second attempt with a new story (I lost the file of my old first project many years ago).
    The problem:
I intend to use only RTP and it's a project that will avoid having a lot of dialogue and focus on the standard RPG Maker XP combat, crafting and character progression. But even so I feel that because I use RTP people won't play it, is that true? I even want to leave the characters' names as standard with the exception of the ones I create. Will people have the patience to play?
