This week's update, we have some small creatures of fortune. First is the Negret, a small creature that, when touched by candlelight, transforms into a wealth of coin and jewelry. It also describes the sadness that follows years of building equity, apparently. Next we have Yallery Brown, a small creature covered in long hair, from an old English folk tale. In it, Yallery is saved by a young man, and in turn helps him with his tasks. But when thanked, he curses the lad to never have good luck again. Yallery apparently hates being thanked. And lastly, we have a Bluecap. Less well-known than the vicious Redcap, these fairies lived in mines and worked to help the miners, but expected a fair wage in return. Despite their name, they are not known for wearing caps at all, and instead often appear as a blue flickering flame.

Hey I noticed if I go back about ten pages or so in this thread, the images aren't showing in the thread. I'm guessing they were old enough that this forum has archived them or something? Just wanted to make you aware of it.

Yeah, that's from when I was still hotlinking the images through Dropbox. I deleted the images as I reached milestones in the sets, and offered a .rar file of the collection instead.
This week's update features the Cadejo, the Nargun, and the Chicheveche.
The Cadejo is a spirit that takes the form of a dog. Its eyes shift from blue to red when it intends to attack. The Nargun is a singular, half-man, half-stone creature living behind a waterfall in Victoria, Australia. Any weapon wielded against it would be turned on its owner. And finally, the Chicheveche (or Chichevache, seen it spelled both ways commonly). Part of a pair of creatures, it contrasts with the Bicorn. Bicorns are plump and well-fed, as they feast on "kind-hearted and devoted husbands." Chicheveche devours faithful women, and since they are apparently rare, it is starving. Enjoy.

Okay, so it turns out that due to an oversight, a number of the previous images have not had solid black as their outline colour, but rather a dark purple. I went back over and fixed a number of them, but also decided to do some colour changes and additions. I'll post them all in the spoiler here, but if you like any of the current colours, please download them directly from the posts they're in, as they will no longer be in the first post and they won't be included in the complete set .rar files.

Anyway, this week we have Adhene, Jasy Jatere, Ventolin, and Karkadann.
Adhene is a fallen angel from Manx mythology. They're general tricksters, too wicked for Heaven but too good for the pits of Hell.
Jasy Jatere is from Guarani mythology, unique among his siblings in that he lacks a monstrous appearance. His name means "little piece of the moon", and he is considered the lord of the siesta.
Ventolin is an angel from Cantabarian mythology, sporting green wings and white eyes, they are air spirits that aid weary or endangered sailors.
Finally, Karkadann is a mythical rhinoceros said to have once lived on the plains of India. Like other rhinoceros legends, it's closely associated with the Unicorn, as it can be tamed by a pure maiden, and its horn has healing properties.

Getting back into MZ after a long break and loved catching up on all the updates you've made. I saw someone post a while back that the master file wasn't showing newer additions. I'm having the same issue--the master file I downloaded doesn't have anything past Dec 11th, 2021.

I think that's all Swamp stuff, which is easy enough to add in...just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Love the style and limitless variety of your work. Thanks for sharing!

This week, we have the Flatwoods Monster, and some strange giants.
The Flatwoods Monster, or Braxie, is from Braxton County, West Virginia. First sighted in September, 1952, it was believed to be an alien.
"Ettin" is simply another word for a giant, but Dungeons & Dragons diversified them by giving them two heads. The heads tend to argue with each other, fight over food, and have a general dislike of each other, but the creature can amble about constantly, as only one head needs to sleep at a time.
Karnabo is a strange giant from Ardennes, with the eyes of a basilisk and the nose of an elephant. It could make humans fall unconscious by trumpeting.
Lastly, we have the Mimi. These Aboriginal Australian spirits preceded the first men in Australia, and taught them survival skills. Their bodies are long and thin, to the point where a strong wind could snap them in half. They would dwell beneath stones and in caves.

Whoopsie, almost forgot today was update day! This time we have an alpaca monster and some unusual chickens.
First, the alpaca, the fearsome Jarjacha of Peru. Believed to be a human who committed sinful incest, it would transform at night and seek out innocent souls to consume their brains and thus cleanse themselves of their curse.
The large chicken breathing a gout of stylized flame is Basan, from Japanese folklore. Its fire is a cold fire that glows but does not burn.
The golden rooster is Gullinkambi, from Norse mythology. It is one of three roosters whose crowing signals the end times.
The stylish black rooster is the Rooster of Barcelos, from a tale wherein said rooster arose from the dead to prove a man's innocence.
Finally, the rainbow-hued rooster is Sarimanok, from the Philippines. It's a bird that promises good fortune.

That rooster of Barcelos there is really nice, the Portuguese vibe is quite a unique one.

This week we have some chimera combo-monsters.
First is the Seelkee, which dwells in the swamps of Chilliwack, BC. Its original name is Halqemaylem. It was reported to be either a two-headed snake or a snake with a horse's head, so I split the difference, especially since we have just recently had a bunch of two-headed snakes.
Next we have the Merlion, the official mascot of Singapore. It became the city's mascot due to Singapore's origins as a fishing village, and its original name Singapura, or "lion city". It's used in some of Singapore's iconography and has statues throughout the city.
Finally, we have the Achlis. Its snout is actually an oversized upper lip, and its legs were so stiff that it had trouble moving or eating. This allowed ancient Romans to hunt it to extinction.

This week we have the Galtzagorri, Naki, and Fuath.
Galtzagorri is a small, humanoid, trickster spirit. They are a specific type of Iratxoak, imps from Basque mythology, and their most defining feature is their red pants.
Naki is... I can't find the source I originally looked up. From memory, she is some kind of beautiful ocean nymph or mermaid, possibly drawn from Anunnaki or Nakisawame, but neither of them are described as "mermaids" which was the basis of this design. I drew her as a freaky fish lady as a joke. So... yeah.
Finally, Fuath is from Scottish folklore, and are evil spirits. They can live anywhere, but the ones in water are most-active, as they prefer to kill their victims by drowning them.

This week we have the monsters El Cuero, Fenodyree, Kallikantzaros, and Gancanagh.
El Cuero is a monster that resembles cowhide splayed out to dry, and resides in Lake Lacar, in the Andes mountains, where it lies still to catch unsuspecting prey.
Fenodyree is a hairy fairy from the Isle of Man, where it assists in chores around the farmstead.
Kallikantzaros is a strange and malevolent creature from southern Europe. Resembling a man, goat, and wolf, it saws at the trunk of the world tree in the hopes of bringing the collapse of the world above. On Christmas, however, it appears above ground to cause harm to humans, forgetting the tree and allowing it to heal until they return on January 6th.
Finally, Gancanagh is a fairy of Irish folklore. A youthful and handsome male fairy known for seducing women.

This week's monsters are Ta'xet, Tia, Da Peng, and Aije.
Ta'xet and Tia are death gods from Haida mythology. Ta'xet is the god of violent death, whereas Tia is the goddess of peaceful death.
Da Peng is from Chinese mythology. It is a massive fish that transforms into a massive bird.
And finally, Aije is a large tadpole-like creature from Bolivia. It can potentially grow to massive proportions, but a captured one, properly cared for and appeased, will heal any injury or illness.

It's been a long couple of weeks. Hope everyone is having a great holiday.
This week's monsters are the Mokele-Mbembe, Impundulu, Makalala, and Abarimon.
Mokele-Mbembe dwells in the Congo river basin, and is large enough to stop the river's flow. Popular in cryptozoology there are even modern-day hunts for the creature. None have been successful.
Impundulu is another name for Lightning Bird, a legend from the Zulu tribe of South Africa. Often a witch's familiar, it can generate lightning and uses its pointed beak to drink blood.
The Makalala is a bird from Tanzania, taller than an ostrich and with spikes protruding from its wings. It strikes its wings together, rattling the spikes and making loud noises.
Finally, Abarimon is the name given to a Himalayan tribe with backwards feet. They are savage and proud, capable of running at incredible speed. However, due to the mystical properties of the mountain air, they are unable to leave the Himalayas.
