  1. @Black Pagan, @Kupotepo
Everyone have their favorite type of narreation. I personally like more story which start slowly and develops in time. Like, I don't know who is main character, but I learning his/her story by time. It's very satisfying.
  2. Wow I'm the only person that likes Sci fi here? Wierd.. Sci fi has a huge following so I would take this poll with a grain of salt lol.
  3. @MaGicBush, thank you for your thoughts. I put sci-fi in a late time. However, Sci-fi is a subgenre of an adventure or mystery genre.
I define an sci-fi subgenre as a RPG story which has some kind of technological advantages and has a scientific explanations.
I think many who like adventure element likely to like an sci-fi genre.
  4. Well, it is kinda supposed to be more anticipation than let say, retrofuturism and steampunk XD So usually anticipation over science. Chrichton and Asimov and to some extend P K Dick are not so adventure based all that much. But true mystery usually!

(Wait Chrichton did at least two actiony a wee bit Timeline and Jurrassic Park or was it the cinematic I mixt with my read books.)
  5. @Marquise*, sci-fi is a science fiction can be many things related science, biology, chemistry, and psychology. Technically, you are corrected that many game, novels, or movies have many different genres of story. That is why treat this thread at subjective. For examples, people watch the same movie ,but they describe the movie a little differently when they are finished a watching movie.
  6. @Black Pagan agreed, unless ofcourse it serves A story/plot purpose not to know
  7. I like narratives that are relatively tight and short but have depth. I understand the appeal of long form narratives but I tend to find in most games they result in a lot of filler content, this seems to be a trend in a lot of RPGs and modern Open World games. I like it when sidequests either tie directly into the narrative or add to the world building, helping to contextualise certain elements of the games design. In tems of genre I am pretty open to anything as long as the charcaters are interesting.
  8. Adventure IS pretty much a reliable way to build an RPG but i think that leaving around elements of mystery can greatly enhance the story. By that i mean even something as simple as a nebulous lore that will later on tie with the main story, the best example i can think of, which also happen to be one of my favourite series is the Souls franchise but those elements were used even before their time with great success.

The plot is simple, bring the idol back to where it came from, however we are already presented with many mysteries. Why is the idol cursed? What happened to the Ancient Kingdom? Why did the forces of the Swordmaster failed in their mission and what happened to them? Horrible dub aside this intro is a perfect example of what i'd consider the best way to use narrative in a RPG game.
  9. @VisitorsFromDreams, I agree that filler is a boring and good to know that you are up for any genres.
@BlueWulf, thank you for your input and nice to meet you.
  10. @Kupotepo My point was from novel (book original source material) to movie. I know that to game way more is lost in the same genre due to coding complexity of the format.
