  1. I've decided to join the herd and start doing Let's Play videos of some of the community's games. My channel is small and right now just consists of a devlog, a trailer, and game test footage, but I'm aiming to change that. This will primarily be for the dev's benefit, as I am not monetized and this takes away from game dev time, in the hopes they can improve their game.

    Who am I?
So, who am I and why should you care? You probably shouldn't, I'm just another random rpg maker dev, but I've been around for a few years and picked up a few things along the way. I've also been a gamer for longer than some of you have been alive. Everything is just my subjective opinion and I'll just call it as I see it. As a dev, I've always really appreciated videos of my games being played and found it really useful to get feedback and find ways to improve my game making skills.

Anywho, right now I'm playing some games that I thought looked cool or interesting for roughly about an hour. The devs didn't request a video or anything, I just wanted to do it for fun. Right now there's a "score" at the end but it doesn't mean anything and is completely arbitrary.

You can request me to play your game but it doesn't mean I will.
    Criteria
I'm doing this for fun, if it doesn't seem like I am going to have fun with your game, I'm not going to play it.
    • YouTube appropriate - No Adult/sexual content, self harm, excessive swearing (some is fine), nudity, keep it pg-13ish
    • Polish - a few placeholders are fine but a general amount of polish and detail need to be present. RTP is fine but needs to be used well.
    • Demos/Early Access etc are fine but it must have roughly an hour's worth of gameplay and meet the above standards.
    • Mainly Commercial games will be accepted. Exclusions will apply.
    • No Visual Novels - sorry, I'm not reading your novel.
    • No AI art/music/programming - it is what it is and not open for discussion
    • itch.io/steam links only
    • provide key(s) if your game cost money

First up is MARGO - On The Brink by @SomaelCK I really enjoyed playing this game. It's very beautiful, and a lot of fun.

  2. Are you going to make your FatPP gameplay public? :LZSlol:
  3. If your cool with it, yeah I'll let FatPP hangout in public.

I also did Fidel & the Pauper's Paradox
  4. Watching the let's play, I noticed I didn't Tutorialized a lot of stuff clearly!

Like how "hack" option is not usable in demo. It's basically "magic spells". Research Logs are inaccessible in demo as well.

Barrier Cells/Life Crystals from treasure cache immediately restore HP/Barrier. I should've included the description.

Gonna fix them and update the demo! Many thanks for the play through!

Edit- Finishing the garbage pile and broken monitor side quests will give you some valuable items to help with the bossfight.
  5. Another Unsolicited Let's Play Review. Tales of Frah'Akin by Pandoneum Studio. This game has gorgeous artwork, beautiful mapping, and very good voice acting, unfortunately it runs at ~20fps for most of the game and the battles need more work. Check it out:

Thank you so much for playing my game! :LZSproud:
  7. Back with another Unsolicited Let's Play! This time checking out a whacky Earthbound inspired game made VXAce, Moro's Poodle by Stagnelius. It's loaded with custom art, music, and sounds. It definitely has a vibe all it's own. I enjoyed this one a whole lot.

  8. Here again with another Unsolicited Let's Play/Review Video. This time we're checking out "The Seventh Warrior" by DerKIAS/ Retro Valley made in VXAce. This is a very well put together game with beautiful parallax mapping, custom sprites and sprite behaviors, a little bit of voice acting, and a slightly different premise where you play as the baddie instead of the youthful heroes. I had a lot of fun playing this game and can't stress enough how well put together it is.
  9. Finishing up "The Seventh Warrior". It's a really, really good game. Goliath needs a little bit of nerfing, right now he's just a massive HP sponge. This demo is so long I had to make two videos to finish.

  10. You know, I'm ashamed to say that I haven't watched any of these videos you posted recently. I keep meaning to, and then I forget.
If you join my streams in the future, be sure to harass me about this.
  11. Oh nice! Subbed. I love watching rpgmaker reviews xD
  12. Sorry for the long gap between videos. Hopefully, I'll get another video before the end of the year. IRL stuff snuck up on me like an assassin and a lot of games that I've had my eye on and looked fantastic ran horribly and the videos would have been cursing and single digit frame rates and stuttering video. I did however find a diamond in the rough.

"The Lost Myth" by Moz the Tiger.
    itch link
This is a rock solid demo. It's short, tight, looks stellar, and just a fun short demo. Other than a couple of typos, an overuse of ellipses, and only recieving 1 resurection item, there's nothing to really criticize. More devs need to take notice, this is how you do a demo, myself included, lol.

    Enjoy!

WOOOOW!! Thank you so much for playing The Lost Myth and for the kind words! I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed the demo. I appreciate the constructive feedback about the typos and ellipses. I’ll definitely work on polishing those for the next update! ^^

I’m constantly learning and improving, and your words really motivate me to keep pushing forward. Thanks so much! :D

P.S.: If I may suggest a game, you should add The Silent Kingdom to your list. There’s a demo available on itch.io, and that game has a lot of potential :hwink:
  14. That does look good and they had a successful Kickstarter. Thanks for recommending it.

Yeah the game is made with MV and it looks amazing! LuckyCat is an absolute genius

I played it on stream. Art is beautiful but it played more like a talky talky dull VN with default combat.
I will say that I have heard that the combat had an overhaul, but I think the dull talky-talky stuff is just the dev's vision for the game, so not sure if that would have changed much.

Would be interested to see the new improvements to the game though if you do decide to play it.
  17. I'm not big on VNs. We'll see how that goes.

It's funny I just got done playing Fortunastreet's game and then got a recommendation from YouTube of you playing it like a year ago, lmao.

    ... ;w;
    Thank you very much for recommending my game. This made me very happy ;_;

I don't visit the forum often, so I didn't know about this thread until now. It's helped me discover some awesome looking RPG Maker games.

Slaughty, I don't know what kind of game you enjoy, so I don't know if you'd like mine. For the record, mine is not like a VN, but it does put the focus on the story. It has many dialogues and dialogue options, for that's what I personally enjoy in RPGs. It also has combat and I've done my best to make it as nice as I could. But if you prefer games that have more combat than dialogue, this one isn't that hahaha.

If you still decide to play it, I'll happily watch the stream! I always learn new things from streams. I also hope you can find anything you can enjoy about the game.
  19. So I did it, and was I glad I did!

In this video I play the whole demo for the above mentioned "The Silent Kingdom" by @LuckyCatOtome . It wasn't too talky-talky for my taste. Some of the dialogue is a little verbose, but that's kind of expected of the way royalty would speak. I absolutely loved this one. Some of the QTEs are a little hard to time right because I'm not exactly sure when during the animations would be the ideal spot to press the button and kind of feels like guessing but overall I didn't mind. The art is absolutely gorgeous, the game runs flawlessly, and the story leaves you wanting so much more. I really really enjoyed this one and thanks to @MoztheTiger for suggesting it!

  20. Really glad to hear you liked this one.
It's one I wanted to root for, but just couldn't get behind it (at least, the version I played).
Maybe in a year's time or so I'll give it another try.
