  1. Heya guys.  I am sorry I didn't have time to do something special in time for the 5k views but I wanted to make sure to say thank you.  Having this much exposure for such a small game has been very uplifting through a hard time the past few months have been.

The last week saw the death of my father, and though we were all with him at the hospital it's been a trying time for us to organize the funeral and get my mother situated.  Right now things have calmed down, so I can resume updates at the very least.

As promised here are some new portraits I am working on for the final part of the game.

I've been playing around a bit more with battle dynamics, but sadly with the current contest going on I don't think I'll see much help from scripters even offering my services.  I don't plan on participating in the event myself, but I am interested to see what people come up with and will be around to play the entries when they are done.

June 15th looks to be bad now, so I am going to move the .3 alpha to July due to needing to clean up the house to get it ready to sell.  I'll keep updating on sprites, portraits, cut scenes and the like if there is no GMD.

@_elvenheart Thank you!  I'll be sure to move it to the fanart section when I get a chance.  It's much appreciated =3

@Shayoko Thank you for the play through of the currently uploaded demo.  I'll get a chance to look at it eventually.  I had planned on doing it this week before everything fell apart on memorial day weekend.

I've got a few things I want to work on, and maybe design another badge for supporters.  ShinGamix was kind enough to go over the entirety of the thread and the OP before the contest and made some suggestions/criticisms I want to act on.  I'll start reworking the OP and updating information again since I haven't done that in nearly 3 months.

So far I've added a small amount of hp to trash, and some custom states.  I'll have to start trying to make them reaction based as well, to keep people from steam rolling certain encounters.  I don't wanna make the first dungeon too difficult, but from the impression I've received it goes far too quickly.  I'll begin a new slew of play testing this week if I am not preoccupied with drawing. While spread sheets help, they don't confer on the fun aspect the player has had.
  2. @palladinthug:

Man, again my deepest condolences to you and your family, may your father rest in peace.

Don't worry, take all the time you need...hope you're doing well.

I'm so damn busy lately, I would love to do another playthrough of your game but atm I can't (I can't even continue playing danko's game, I feel so terrible here).

Nice updates so far, I'll keep an eye on the thread as always.

Oh and congrats for the 5k+ views!
  3. So very sorry to hear your news.  May your father rest in peace.

I love what you're doing with your game, and am looking forward to having the time to do a proper playthrough.
  4. @Dalph No worries guy.  I have a new version to upload I've been avoiding that fixes a lot of issues due to work being to hectic and little errands.  I'll try and upload it by next week when I get the Druid Forest up to date with the improved enemies.  There is no rush, and I've got more content to show as well, so save your free time if you get it for Danko.  I've also worked out something to help with duplicating actors when Emmet isn't in the lead.

    ZJpzdMn.jpg

This recaptures the feel of FF4 when Cecil was not lead character. No fade in, fade out needed.

Right now the build isn't substantial enough to warrant an upload.  Little fixes are nice, but the general flow of battle over all needs more testing with the new mechanics I've introduced.  I just don't wanna make things to intimidating that battle becomes a chore or a horror.

Thank you for your sympathies.  I'm more than able to work- and once the new restaff release comes you you'll have some stuff from me.  Members + also got Horace last week along with a little animated orb, but I may have edit Horace's down sprite due to some overlapping on her behavior.    I'll wait till things calm down to upload a corrected version.

@ksjp17 Thank you for your sympathies.  I am glad you and others are enjoying things so far =3  I know what it is like to lack time.  I'll look forward to your feedback.

Edit: I realize I didn't have a "fonts" folder now and thought I could just dump them into the directory to reference them.  I've rectified that so it isn't necessary to install an unwanted font to your computer.  Whoops.

I've also started to give enemies non standard attacks and effects to keep things interesting.  I'll run through testing today and see how much harder it makes the first dungeon.  So far the first two bosses have been pumped up, and I wanna make sure this doesn't stop people from progressing.

Also Willard received something to tidy up his spell list a bit:

    EzVMkP5.jpg

    Now things aren't so cluttered.
  5. You would have to intentionaly make the battle system terrible for it to be that bad :3

    worst ive played(for me anyway)

1.Luck based(nothing you do matters just hope you win)

    2. Boutalles-Rpg maker game.this system gave me nightmares and was so bad i doubt anyone finished the game. or at least recorded doing so.

    3.FF8-Ps1 One word= Stock

4.any battle system that requires you to craft items to use skills/spells

are my top 4 most hated

I would NEVER do a "draw" system that forced a player to junction magic that punished them for using any of the stock by reducing stats >< gah.  I'd rather play a children's trading card game that everyone in the world strangely does for no explained reason.

Crafting system I detest myself from Legend of Agarest and Agarest War Zero.  It's such a huge part of the game for skills and items you cannot avoid it even with DLC items.  This detracts from art, and the battle itself as your grinding for items and not for levels/content.  Items are akin to content the same way any method of progress in the game is, which the player is entitled to get. There are exceptions with the strongest equipment that may be a bit out of arms reach, but everything else should at least be droppable/bought.

Speaking of which:  The Mithril Staff is in the game proper, and this time it does much more for Willard than before.

If I have done things correctly, it will upgrade\enhance his spells and expand his mana pool. (Now 1/4 of it's original size)

Meditation has been tested and is working to the point he can outlast most encounters and bosses the same as Shade.

I will have to check that game out to witness it first hand.  Though I have never seen a "luck" based system.
  7. one of the examples of a luck based system

is someone made a visual novel/rpg game based off the anime black cat

how turns work is when you want to attack

a riticule will randomly move around various points of there body until you click attack

certain spots do more damage then others so you want to aim for vitals but...

its most likely not possible for a normal human to actually land the shots where they want as its rather fast

    Example

    Black Cat  skip to 2:36

Pressing a button at just the right moment is something I saw in another early concept.  I didn't adjust well to it till the second play through, and getting only one chance for normal damage is not very fair from my perspective.

I am currently working on some world tile elements.  Here is a WIP of Silver Town.  Druid Circle is next.

For the banner link you have to have imgur or similar and upload the image.  Then instead of the png url you replace it with your thread =3  so if you have the first part of say:

    8SZshPl.png

The highlighted one is the one you want.

    URL=IMAGE ADDY IMG http://  Actual image/IMG/URL

Replace IMAGE ADDY with the Forums ADDY you want to link too.  Pretty easy, but VERY frustrating if it doesn't work which can be a single small error.  I recommend taking the link into a text editor first and dissecting it there.

Well it's funny you should mention that.  I intended at this game's insecption from the original script that there are two endings.  1) Emmet uses his power to unite the human and beast men.  Shade leaves for the Magical City of Stormville.  Willard returns with his father.  Wolfe returns to the Empire as an ambassador to Silver Town. or 2) Emmet becomes a black guard and slaughters every human in Silver Town.  Shade retreats to the Empire seeking aid.  Willard gets his revenge. Wolfe becomes Emmet's assassin.

That being said I've gone through a few more endings into the trash.  One of which is extremely silly, where Emmet becomes Emperor.  That one was junked almost immediately.  I laughed at it myself.

The nice girl will get what's coming to her!

I swear I meant to do this sooner.  Now no more window overlap.  Thank you Arkecia for noticing!

  12. Decide to download this and give it a play. I've had my eyes on this game.

Thank you guy.  I cannot guarantee the current build is bug free, but I am working on the current version to amend quite a bit besides errors and pass-ability issues.  I hope you enjoy.

    For everyone:

Here is a small poll to make things easier with what you feel could improve battle.

    http://www.poll-maker.com/poll105064x41CE33ad-4

As of yet I haven't gotten any useful posts to my inquiry in the tutorials or support thread regarding making encounters and enemy troops for random monsters.  It looks like well before the contest started people haven't heard of any tutorial related to making engaging battle, so I am stuck learning for myself through trial and error.  So far I have several poorly written articles which focus more on engaging a player on the maps themselves without enemies.  I learned to do this with Shade's scrolls, but am saving that for the next game.  Having a bridge mechanic out of battle here or other effects to find secret doors etc will not help battle.

Combos and setting up enemies for more brutal attacks are one way to do things.

    Mechanics under cut.

    Spoiler
Shade has Libra which identifies enemies and lowers their defenses for physical and magical attacks.  I've incorporated that, and now it's instant and doesn't require a turn at all in the new version.  Dispel magic, which will nullify enemy buffs and specials.  Sleep and slow which will incapacitate an enemy to set them up for more damage well.  A sleeping target now looses a massive amount of armor and magical defenses which are seen as "active" when awake and disabled when asleep.  Slow will now impact evasion/reaction/ and overall make enemies weaker like a debilitate.  Slow and Sleep are now instant.  Some enemies like the undead will NEVER sleep, or cannot be slowed.  I don't think I need to explain why undead never rest.  Wolfe also has a skills which does this at random with decreased effectiveness several times to any enemy target.  Magical Reflect will now last 1~4 turns instead of just one and be instant cast.

Shade is now a juggler with all she can do.  Initially you want to Libra.  We are discussing the possibility of making some enemies immune to Libra.  She will instigate.

Willard's new Wisdom buff which acts off him not being so passive with his role and simply guzzle mp as a healing battery.  Spamming won't work quite the same with him and Shade due to the limited mana pools in the next version.

Blondie will also feel the sting of needing his staff charges now.  You will have a new category of "Staff" on the menu and battle to keep things less cluttered.  Willard will live or die by the staff.

Willard's secret mechanic is functional.  If you notice it, you will realize from the new cut scene (failing the lackey fight in the forest) why his eyes are glowing.

Emmet's new group attacks.  I am debating to make Roar cost HP.  Leonic Strength is nice, but it isn't doing anything besides boosting defenses.  Now Leonic Strength will act as an offensive guard and allow counter attacking.

Emmet has two roles, full tank or full damage dealer.  His buffs\debuffs will balance him with what role you wish him to full fill.  His racial will boost his attack, but it will multiply when buffed, ( and this will be reflected in Pride's Strength).

Wolfe's new Racial which generates TP.  Wolfe's new ability to be an evasion tank if you want to switch Emmet to offensive mode with his new buff that ups attack but lowers all his defenses.

Wolfe has two roles.  Limited Tank, and pure damage dealer.  When you use "Uncanny Dodge", you gain a massive boost to your physical and magical evasion.  If Emmet has taunt up, this doesn't help anyone.

You will need to abstain from roar, which means you loose the TP regen boost.  How do we counter this?  Strength of the Pack.  Everyone becomes faster, but takes more damage(leading to more TP gain).  This stacks with haste cast by Shade for the

DPS race fights like the Squid in the sewers or the Undead Boss Lance Master who guards the final piece of armor.

Enemy troops new family powers and weaknesses.  New Enemy skills.  Improved enemy and Boss Behavior.  More variety with random encounters and surprises.  Queen Lite hasn't given up and has added some new tricks to her arsenal.  The Spider Lady, Orc Boss, and Lich will see a few new surprises as well.  The Dragon battle remains unchanged since it was the only encounter to receive no criticism in it's current form.

This is about all I have gleaned from the feedback so far and my amendments to further the game as it stands in terms of battle.  I'll look over the play through again while I am currently engaged in repairing all the pass-ability issues that backlogged.

All negative stats have been reduced to one round actions if they debilitate you.  If you are blinded and miss your attack, then status will be removed next action selection.  Poison, blindness, paralysis, and anything negative will not be retained out of battle.  Poison and burning which cause damage over time will remain until they are purged, but drop after battle.

All positive buffs will remain until they expire after battle concludes.

I'm currently adjusting the town graphic and just implemented it into the game.  I sent several pieces out to the play testers and so far they want a non busy, simply title screen graphic.  More than likely the town itself focusing on the INN and Tower.

All vendor trash and treasures will be halved of sell cost.  I will also be adjusting the prices of accessories and adding them to Ivan's stock.

I'm afraid I cannot do much more on my own.  I hope it is enough for this build.  I go back to delve into finishing more art.  I can barely handle balancing 4 characters.  I have no idea why I originally wanted 8.  Oo
Druid circle graphic is done and implemented.

People have contacted me directly about certain elements between characters.  Nothing is in stone at this point.  I am working to event and write dialogue to redo the Willard's big reveal and Shade's back story.

I am implementing a cut scene to directly introduce Shade to the player without talking to her like a normal NPC between Jura and Cecil.  I feel she needs a stronger opening.

Nidale will now allow pay for your INN visits and allow you to stay in the barracks.  Both will have small cut scenes which may not be available next build between characters.  These cut scenes will depend on a variable of how many times have you stayed the night in this particular location.  Nidale may also visit you while sleeping to have you do her paperwork.  Jura may even show up, or an unknown assailant from the beginning.
  14. in my preference i dont like to stay in inns anymore....after a terrible, sicking experience with a rpg maker game that had a depressing ending related to a inn

i like to avoid them as much as necessary : (

people can do cruel things to the defenceless....of course your  not playing a female character so its all good! : D
  15. That was thoroughly enjoyable! What a great game it was... though as you said it was not perfect and I did bump into some issues.

I'm sure you've hear them before, but if you are curious I'll leave what I noticed below.

    Spoiler
Some tileset passibilty let me walk on the windows and shelves at the Silvertown inn.

The game became unplayable when I used a transfer from the outside in the world map to the nobles residence. I ended up on the churches walls stuck... game over. I did not save recently!

Ah yes, I mentioned that in the download post under discovered bugs.  My apologies.  I'll have a new version with the corrections up soon, by next month the latest.  The remapping took a lot out of me, and there were some things I missed.

EDIT: Depending on how busy work is today, I may upload a few quick fixes tonight.  This means the first dungeon has seen a taste of the changes and the transfer errors should be cleared along with the new world map graphics.

Also how many of you would appreciate an auto save feature?  I am considering the option.

I'll prepare a blank save for people playing at this point, which will have Emmet and Willard in the party without anything else done.  That way you can resume from where you left off.

EDIT: New Version Alpha .25 is up which addresses the errors.  I have included a save file for those that wish to skip the intro materials as promised.  You will find the link in the OP.
  17. I'm at work right now, but I just wanted to let you know that...:

    Spoiler
...that caped guy in the INN near Ulrika was a big surprise...ahahahah!

Thanks a lot for adding him, you're awesome.

Uh oh.  It's called a "Passability" error to do with the tile set.  I was certain I fixed that statue, thank you for the screen shot =3

Yeah Shade's new emotion sheet has that particular expression too.
  20. I want to draw ..SHADE! but I don't find my Pen for my tablet -_-....I will do some sketch I guess~
