  1. Yeah, Galvs is best, if I wouldn't have to change all my files I'd switch to it too.
@The Stranger - Your map looks amazing.
  2. @padr81 Thanks! I wasn't sure about posting it (it took me ages to decide to share it), but I'm glad I did. :) Parallaxing takes longer than editor based mapping, but I think it's worth the extra effort. It helps that I enjoy making detailed maps to begin with.

It's something I'm improving on with time. I also plan on spending much longer with each of my maps for my game - that map was good practice for me.
  3. Parallaxing looks waaaay better than using just the editor (though Yanfly's grid-free doodads might make this decently comparable), and honestly I think the amount of effort, once you get a little practice, is actually less to produce a good-looking parallax map versus a mediocre editor-built map. Practice, of course, makes perfect :) The more maps you make, the better they will become and the faster you can make them.
  4. @The Stranger Your map is mesmerizing! :LZSooo: Beautiful use of the assets but it has a great moody atmosphere too. Not a friendly place to visit :headshake:

I'm learning a lot from reading the comments and plug-in suggestions. Thanks.
  5. @Jesse - PVGames I wholeheartedly agree. I used to be aainst parallaxing, thinking that I simply shouldn't have to do it and justifying my jealousy of those who did parallax through contempt of their work. I'd keep making up silly excuses for why I shouldn't use parallaxing. I was also wasting a lot of time using GIMP to simply rearrange assets and clump objects, rather than to create parallax maps. I was very petty and foolish in that regard. This is the first large parallax map I've created, and I'm glad I did make it because I proved to myself that I could do it.

I know it's only a single practice map I've made, but it's one giant leap for my confidence. :)

I think all resources look better when parallaxed, but your resources really do benefit from it. I really hope others will try it out. Parallaxing becomes so much more easier once you know your way around something like GIMP. I do agree that Yanfly's Doodad plug-in is a huge boon for making more detailed maps, too.

Plus, once you start parallaxing, you just get sucked into it. Being able to make your maps as detailed as you like is amazing. I also love how detailed a lot of your floor decals are. That map doesn't use autotiles at all, the floor is made purely of various decals. Oh! And those shallow river pieces are a godsend for making non-blocky bodies of water.

@starlight dream Thank you so much. :) It was a lot of fun to make.
  6. I think I have a much more simplified way of explaining the portions of the tiles I cut out being that generally you'll want to cut the bottom 72 pixels into another layer. Some objects may require just the bottom 60 pixels.

Anyways, I do plan to expand on this one at least.
  7. The dude in your screenshot straight up looks like Thor :)
  8. LOL! It does look like Thor. xD

@BloodletterQ I like that you've made the paths look more natural and less straight. I also really like the little faded path leading to the fountain\monument thing. It makes it look like either a path is only just starting to form, or maybe an old path is slowly being reclaimed by nature.
  9. Thanks. Plan to decorate with some of the 1x1 tiles.

The Thor resemblance is completely unintentional. But at least he's not a ginger. And doesn't dress in drag.

Find that the not-so-straight road looks good but feels odd since I'm not going for diagonals at this time. I've already mentioned the Suikoden II maps (see below) look similar enough but only has four directions:

  10. I like that map! It has a logical organization of trees/path, which gives the feel of a lived-in location.

Since PVG assets give the advantage of realism, you get more out of them when you map with this type of logic. It's turning out nicely.

I honestly thought your new avatar was the guy from your previous one and he removed his hoodie! To which I thought not bad, not bad... :p
Glad to see you mapping BTW.

ps I'm not an ginger avatar, it's the way the light strikes her hair. Ahem.. xd
  11. Same person. Though when I draw him or create him in other games he ends up looking more like Dwight from TWD. I do like the more natural look. His look is pretty much done but High Seas should ideally provide him with his proper weapons should scimitars in both hands be a thing.

Isn't your avatar Callo Merlose from Vagrant Story?

Even if you're not mapping now you still might want to get some practice.
  12. I always thought @starlight dream's avatar was Liv Tyler as Arwen Undomiel from The Lord of the Rings. xD

That's a good point, and it could inspire ideas for new locations. I'll try mapping outside of specific games (with PVG stuff)

Your character looks badass, I wouldn't mess with him or tease the guy. I'm sure that instead of laughing, he punches. :LZYugh:

    Yes she's Callo Merlose ^.^b.
@The Stranger She looks a bit like an elf there which I like. (Are you joking about Arwen? :LZSrasp:)
  14. @starlight dream Nope. I genuinely thought it was some artsy take on Arwen.
  15. I see the similarities now xd From now on I'll tell people it's Arwen and argue with them when they try to correct me. ;)
  16. Since you seemed interested in the character design...

Probably nothing impressive. Maybe a few little minor workarounds but we haven't exactly shared character designs all that much.
  17. @starlight dream Haaa Vagrant Story. Some if my best gaming memories.

That could be interesting to share characters concept like @BloodletterQ did.

Curious to see what people have produced with the resources. I'll try to show some of mine when off work later.
  18. @BloodletterQ Those 2 characters are beautiful. I can imagine the guy handling scimitars, they will fit his style!

@Niten Ichi Ryu Vagrant Story was a unique gaming experience. Will always love it. No other game replicated it IMO. ^.^b
  19. Scimitars will definitely be in the High Seas pack, I will do my best to remember to make them for both hands! :)
  20. That's the one I'm looking forward to the most. Has lots of potential for things I might be able to use or spice up like jewelry, bandanas, and eyepatches. Especially eyepatches. Granted if I added one to my protagonist he'd look like a recolored Niles from Fire Emblem Fates.
