Nice! How'd you do the transparency?
Latest test map, still needs a lot of work. Cliffs need edges in some places that connect with the rest, the rocks were me spamming ctrl+v and just moving them at random, the decal work is shoddy, I didn't finish the trees or add any detail objects to the forest floor, and I have no detail textures for more dirt and such to break up the monotony of the grassy areas. But hey look, fog and a dragon! The GIMP Render>Clouds>Fog filter is wonderful. I got distracted looking through the resource folders and decided I really needed to just see what it would look like to put a dragon in for no reason.

Waiting for Jesse to get more packs out is driving me mad : P I am committed to a full game. I guess I can flesh out the combat, spells, abilities, etc, test all of it, balance things, and continue work on items and the narrative.

I did it by using Quxios Map Editor.
Spoiler
It has an OnPlayer feature that allows images that the player steps behind to go transparent when they hit the interaction box. A little bit more work but it allows for more compact rooms and neat tricks.
Your map is also looking pretty good. My bad, didn't read the post proper lol -
I do indeed use GIMP. I'm not a fan of the tiled look for exterior maps so I spend a stupid amount of time on parallax maps instead. I feel these resources look best when applied that way.
-
I feel you, man. I like it when maps look more natural and I also agree that to get the best out of these resources you probably need something other than the default editor. Anyways, I'd say it's great that you're spending time working on your exterior maps it shows.

@PsychicToaster I always enjoying seeing your maps, they inspire me to carry on parallaxing my own. :)
The only thing I am not too keen on, in your last map, are the identical trees. I know there's not a lot you can do about them, but they really stood out when I looked at the map, for some reason.
I'd love to know what's going on in this scene, though. A dragon conversing with a hooded figure - so very clandestine. -

The trees were the result of me being incredibly lazy. I made a group of them and just copied and pasted them a few times. Then I got distracted while looking through the files and saw the dragon, and I just had to do something with it. So I never fleshed out the plants, trees, rocks, dirt decals, or the cliffs and instead decided to make a little scene lol. I never planned on using this map, as I was just trying to see if I could make a large map interesting. I guess in a way I succeeded. Lol.
Thanks for the positive feedback. When Plague Bringers arrives I believe I will have enough to get started on actual game maps. @Jesse - PVGames I do feel like we need more trees, the repetition can be noticed easily, even when you mix and match them. -
@PsychicToaster I'm right there with you. My project is heavily plague\disease themed, so I need some of the resources in the Plague Pack - especially the character parts. Really hoping for more decaying plants\trees, too.

We'll probably have MV Ace by the time we have a complete set and I'm hoping that the resources don't take too much to be compatible. Just kidding. Of course, I'll get anxious about the next pack and then not focus on what's available at present lol. I'm actually kind of feeling intimidated, but determined, to get that one project done with these resources. The chibi anime characters just don't fit in the project I'm aiming for.

Precisely. I do wish Degica would put resources out as soon as they've been approved. I'm going to finish a game for once, but I'd like it to not take three and a half years. -

I need a cave tileset for the next part of my game but I need plague bringers too but closer to the end game. My game is two years already, probably take 4 to get it complete. -
WIP... bar interior.

Figured this may be as good a spot as any to post these. Just a couple of screenshots from the game engine I have been programming, specifically with the PVG Resources in mind. This project is actually the reason I made the Character Creator Software, so that I could use all of Jesses awesome resources easily. Some of the pictures are pretty dark because my day-night cycle wasnt cooperating but hopefully you can see the forest areas I just made with the help of Jesse's Tutorial (shameless plug!) Anyways I am really proud of what I have so far and wanted to share with someone!
-
You should be proud, it looks great man! What sort of engine are you making? What type of game will ultimately come of it?
-
Right now its just your standard RPG game engine, Ive taken a lot of cues from RPGMaker. It started because I just wanted to see how hard it would be to make a game engine and to test my programming knowledge (Turns how there is a lot that goes into it.) But I have all the basics done: quests, talking, inventory, basic real time combat, and day night cycle, saving and loading, simple pathfinding. Along with the game engine being easy to add in new objects and world spaces. However I have even more stuff to do. Primarily being a more in-depth combat system (right now its just attack and block (the blue square in the 2nd pic is the kobold blocking)), which would also include adding stats, which as of now there are none. Thats not even starting to make a good AI.
I have a rough idea of what kind of game I want to make kind of an open world 2d elderscrolls-ish game but possible with random dungeon generation, another thing to add to my ever growing list. The general idea is you have 3 warring countries kinda dividing up a circular island pie chart like. The reason I want 3 is so that there is no definite 'good' side in it. I want to create a world with a lot of gray area choices wise. I am kinda taking inspiration from Game of Thrones, where not all good people are all good and not all bad people are all bad. I also dont want to confine the player into a box of being the good guy/hero, if you wanna be a villian, you can join some bandits. So very open world, however there will be main quests for each faction, however they will conflict like in Fallout.
Anyways this post got super long, and as you can see I dont have any definite ideas and I still have a lot to do. -
I think that this may be a little to advanced, but I'm trying to make this into a border fortress between mountains and frankly could use some advice. I haven't even decorated yet until deciding whether I should scrap this idea.
Also any suggestions for tidying up all those lines on the wall at the bottom and the one turret? -
@BloodletterQ - I should be able to help you out with that in about a week or so. I would also suggest doing mountains perhaps like how I did them in my 2nd tutorial video instead of using that background, as the perspective is too far off; either way though, if you can wait a bit, I can help you out :)

A castle pieces tutorial in general would be great.

I've been working on other buildings inspired on medieval europe, here's the first I've made!

You're really good with those pieces. Really want to see more of your work.I've been working on other buildings inspired on medieval europe, here's the first I've made!
