  1. Well, I can only tell you what I know:

Proove me wrong, but what I know is:

-there is no full credit list anywhere

-the tilesets contain stuff by various artists of them - for example studio pickle - some don't want their stuff to be reposted

-there are few tiles that can be identified as rips and some that _could_ be Rips.

Here are some examples (shrunk down to be unusable but I hope everything is still good to identify):

    eklti4ks.png

A Credit list would at least contain: Euphony, The Half Kaizer Team, Studio Picke/Ice Axe, maybe ccoa (I am not sure, would have to double check), Mack, XP RTP, Ace RTP, Tana, BenBen, but!

There are definitly Rips in there.

    There are several tiles that can't be identified, so there could else be a lot more names to be added to the credit list or tiles you shouldn't use because they are rips, but we can't know. I think a lot of the temple tiles and many more are by BenBen, but that doesn't make the tiles safe^^;

So far, this is nothing official, I just felt that there was a need for an information point and I do my best in research and sharing the informations I can get my hands on^^; I don't contact the people, I just made a place where you can look up what you definitly should avoid if you want to be sure :)

I've seen commercial games from Aldorlea using tiles from that huge BenBen tileset
But are they from that tileset?
As Avery said above, the biggest problem of the BenBen tilesets is that they are mixed together and contain reposts, edits and rips without credits.

So it could very well be that Aldorlea had the tiles from the original source legally and the same tiles were also reposted in BenBens where no one knows where any parts come from.
  3. The tileset certainly belongs on the blacklist, I'm not questioning that. I mean, it's obvious from the crazy mix of styles alone that it's not a trustworthy resource. I guess I'm just particularly curious about stuff like the trees (the ones next to the Neophyte rip, for example) and the castle/cathedral tiles (parts of them can be seen next to the Metroid rip)...they seem like they could be original or like they could be rips.

Definitely possible! And if that's the case, couldn't they share that information with us? There are Aldorlea devs on the forum IIRC. It would be nice if they could provide more info on these mystery tiles.
  4. Not to mention those recolored couches next to the metroid rip are from White Ties (or whatever it's real name is--the one pretty Japanese XP sample game) which if I recall, they don't want people using their stuff in commercial games (not entirely sure but pretty sure it was said somewhere a long time ago). That also goes for some of the designs on the beds--they are also from White Ties though also mixed with XP's RTP for the bed frame. Those benches that you're not sure where they are from are ALSO from White Ties.

is this iconset reliable? There are some icons i would like to use in my project.

Actually no considering i recognized a lot of rips in that big iconset Ragnarok icons, Lunar Silver Star Story/Eternal Blue icons. Namely the special skill icons as well as a few of the sword icons are very recognizable considering the master sword and althena sword.

It's safe to say not to rely on any of the big icon sets considering the mix of various rips.
  6. Annoying,

I recognize the icon set as a smaller subset of a set of icons I had been working with along with a couple of other items, as I am not very partial to MV's default icon set. While I don't recall the site I acquired it from, I distinctly recall the person who posted it saying something akin to "Feel free to use it in whatever project you like...".

Still, thank you for posting this. (tip of the hat)
  7. Hmm... two qustion... whether is break the law if i use for non commercial game?

How about if i create other character by my own mod?

Example, i create Lighting Mod from Final Fantasy 13 and put it on my non comercial game RPG Makker still that break the law?

Yes, yes, and yes. It is still copywrite infringement if you do it, all being non-commiercial does is (possibly) reduce the fine and penalties you will pay if the company takes you to court.

I see... thank's for your information. :D i will more carefull.

But i found strange case! From Vash Maker, he said the sprites is free for use, and there is a sprites from Marvel character, like Captain America, Iron Man and Wolverine. in this case he still copywrite infringement or not?

Yes and no - it depends on how you use them. The key here is not copyright infringment but trademark infringment - those are two different things that are often called "copyright" together, but the laws of them are extremely different.

    .

If he made the sprites himself then Vash has the copyright on that work, but he doesn't have the right to use the trademark (name) of those characters.

So those sprites can be used if they're named "the blue captain" or "golden golem" in the games - but as soon as they're named "captain america" or "iron man" (which he carefully did not in the topic), then it would be trademark infringment and illegal.

So you mean is no problem even so the character is very much like with the other character as long i named it with different name?

Example i create Lighting mod that simmilar with the Lighting from final fantasy 13 but i named with Resa.

    Its no problem?

Please search for the discussions on copyright in the commercial area, this goes too far off-topic for here. And it has been explained there multiple times
  13. I used the big Iconset for VX Ace, and I got it in VXResourceplanet and got many other things from. Anyways, the mac sprites that I got I know I can find it in one of GrandmaDeb's threads I just have to credit the one that Grandma mentions there. As for the big icon set I really want to use it since it has many icons already, but need to follow the rules....
  14. Actually while we are on this subject considering since rpg maker 2000/2003 are on steam and the rpgmakerweb this is a very good question. While i use the default rtp with to make maps. Are there any other official rtp sets from the 2000/2003 that were released by kadokawa/enterbrain that are actually safe and legal to use?
  15. @Celianna @Avery

It would be nice to add to the OP, a link to this thread, so we can keep track of such people just looking into a certain thread. What do you think?

    Just a suggestion.
  16. Avery / Mods,

I wrote up a guide to IP over on Reddit (link).  Would this be useful for this thread as well?
  17.

    I found

All RMXP RTP Chars for Ace

in a Steam workshop and was wondering if this should be blacklisted as the users of RPGMaker Ace or any other RPGMaker than XP don't have necessarily XP?

    It is in public use for Vx Ace users;

    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=311998305

I kinda asked him and he sent me to the RPGMaker VX Ace EULA....  Which is not the EULA of XP and I can't tell if XP states that you can use all the RTPs in any versions of the makers!

So that's why I am asking and/or reporting this :p
  18. I'm not sure it needs to be blacklisted. The XP RTP is freely available for anyone to download and use and edit in this manner. Whether they get it there or the official download, the would still need to own XP, and unless they are caught somehow, there really is no way to stop people from using it illegally. I added a comment on the Steam page noting that they would need to own both. I think the poster understands that, but, because of language barriers, has not explained it well.
  19. @Avery Can you add Ayaveen's dragon sprites to this list? According to Ayaveen, these were made as edits a long time ago and they have lost the full credit list. Though non-commercial use is probably okay, they can't guarantee commercial use. However, it really shouldn't be used non-commercially either since credits are incomplete. Ayaveen is working on creating a replacement from scratch. I will link it here once it is done.

UPDATE: Ayaveen has supplied this dragon to use in place.

@GrandmaDeb I'm tagging you in this, because when I searched for sources of it, your blog was the only one I could find anymore, so I thought you would want to know.
  20. Greetings everyone!

I'm sorry about butting in to this conversation. I wanted to add some additional notes for the dragon sprites above. Also thank you for your great help mlogan with this issue. Poor you had to endure all my spam :D

As mlogan said this dragon was deleted long ago, and was not even an original work, but an edit created by sources offered by the community.
After seeing it again on these forums, I wanted to warn everyone about the circumstances of these pictures, and also decided to find the sprites that were probably used in its creation. I even received some questions from time to time, but I want to apologize if I was vague or not clear about the circumstances of this image, because I see this thing with all kind of various license information. So I want to clear things up this time.

This sprite should not be used at all, not even in free projects. Why? I made some research a few days ago and found images that were probably used. I've contacted various artists behind them and later I've learned that the sprites weren't actually original works, they were edits and recolors from the RTP (XP) itself. So they certainly should not have been used in this manner. I guess I've learned it the hard way to not trust sources when it comes to sprites on the internet. :(

I'm very ashamed about this, should have made a proper search to verify information back then. That's why I've tried to redraw those dragons, but please make sure you read their information at the deviation and use only the latest version. I've tried to make it somewhat unique, but its still inspired from the original RTP (XP) sources.
