  1. In this RPG Maker Let's Play, we look at the unique systems of Devil Theory, the story of a young girl who ends up in a terrible situation. The story is told through a flashback, and has both an engaging plot and a memorable protagonist, as well as uniquely voiced and interesting characters.

The game, however, suffers from balancing issues with its unique battle system. Numbers in the database and scripts need to be tweaked, and more testing of the battles need to be done. There's also an issue with a massive data dump character that makes for way too much reading. A few map construction issues, but nothing major.

Overall, this game has a lot of potential, and we loved the protagonist so much.

Thanks so much for playing this, I appreciate the feedback. If only I could have implemented an enemy ATB Bar (the script I was using did not have that feature, didn't know what else to do), that would have made players more comfortable to strategically button mash the Attack command and get rid of enemies in a couple swings. You're actually quite overpowered, just as much as the enemies. If you ever want more context (like why Rebecca has a katana) you can play the rest of the game, or just talk to me!

All of this can only make my next game better, which will be implementing the same battle system, with some tweaks of course. And I'm super glad you like the protagonist. I'm proud of my writing :)
  3. In this RPG Maker Let's Play, we look into the dark and twisted, yet hauntingly beautiful, world of Crimson Light by @atasuke10. This survival horror/stealth game focuses on the story of Unelma, who after helping a stranger in the forest, descends into a mad and bloody world.

This game has so much going for it: Powerful story, strong characters, solid map design, and unique game-play. There wasn't much we could find to be critical about, save for some issues with the main character's comments towards certain dead people. Pro Tip: If you're going to have a "nasty" side to your main character, make sure it's for a reason the player can relate to, otherwise it makes them unlikable.

However, the positives in this game far outweigh anything else, and this is a game we highly recommend.

  4. Thank you so much for playing! I'm really glad you enjoyed it! I've witnessed some bugs that weren't meant to be there but thankfully it wasn't that glaring at that moment.
About putting small details(dialogues) on objects, at the time when I made the game I didn't bother, but since then I started seeing its appeal, so it is in the next one. xP
About Unelma's nasty side, I recommend you guys playing the rest of the game if you like(off camera just for your own closure:D).
I've had trouble with character development before. walking the thin line of how to introduce aspects of a character properly. Still working on that one :D
Still I can't describe how happy I am about how much praise you gave the game. I took notes of the details that could be changed so I'll just patch it on an off day.
  5. Unless you've already recorded it, could you hold off on playing my game, The Root of All Evil? I'm fine with being bumped down the waitlist of games. Someone else just played it, and gave me some really good feedback I'd like to implement. Feel that it would make the game a lot better.
  6. I am so, so sorry, but we just finished recording it and are uploading it to YouTube. We just (I mean JUST) sent you a message. :-(

Talk to us over PM about how we can fix this situation if you like.
  7. No, no, it's no problem! I look forward to seeing the video posted! I just wanted to implement a few changes to make sure your comments don't entirely overlap with their's! It's mainly anti-frustration features and fairness rebalances (the game sometimes kicks you when you're down, they did NOT like that, haha.)

So, looking forward to the upload!
  8. In this RPG Maker Let's Play, we look at the dungeon crawling game "Root of All Evil" by TheTitan99. A lot of people think that dungeon crawl games are easy, but the truth is that they are not: You have limited opportunities to develop characters and advance your story, and it's all too easy to fall into the rut of "kill the monster/get the treasure."

Root of All Evil accomplishes these with an elegance that we've not seen in many other games. It's fun to play, the characters are unique and interesting, and there is just enough challenge. Overall, this game doesn't have much it needs to be improved upon.

Having said that, it needs some more party banter, and some more commentary from the characters to develop them. What the creator has isn't bad, but there could be more. We wanted more.

Also, the optional fights are a bit too difficult, even for optional fights, and need to be balanced a bit more. But not by much. The regular fights start out ridiculously easy, but soon require strategy.

Overall, this is a fun game, easy to pick up, with just enough challenge to make it interesting without being frustrating. We definitely recommend it.

  9. If you guys want (and if you have time), you can take a look at this short mini-game I made for the March Madness Mini-Game Contest on this website: https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?threads/al-dente-cooking-contest.76675/

I made it in only 2 days (1 day for developing and 1 day for testing), so don't expect anything groundbreaking. :p
It should last around 30 minutes and hopefully give you a good laugh.
  10. @Dalph That looks adorable! I'll put it on our list. ;-)
  11. Nice playthrough so far on Root of All Evil! Biggest worry is that, if you continue it, you'll get really beaten up as the game goes on, as it constantly increases its challenge... some say by far too much, haha. I've been periodically updating the game to make it fairer and easier, but I've gotten several complaints on the 2nd Last Boss for being too strong. He can kill you really, really, REALLY fast if you don't watch out. Which I wanted, but some say it goes overboard.

I'd say you're 1/2 done depending on the 2 ice puzzles. Unfortunately for you, that slip'n'slide ice puzzle is mandatory to beating the Ice World. This should be made clearer, I see now how it can look optional. Really, the Ice World in general feels a little directionless compared to Levels 2 and 4. Level 2 is very clear on what's optional, Level 3 Ice World isn't nearly as clear. Oh well!

Thank you for your feedback. Actually, the game has a lot MORE banter now than its first release. I see some spots I could add in more though.
  12. Great! Yes, it would be really good to know that those slip and slide puzzles are mandatory to completing the level. Puzzles like that, while fun, can be frustrating. Sounds like you have just a little bit of balancing to do, which isn't a big deal. We stick by what we said about your game. Overall, it's very solid and a lot of fun. ;-)
  13. In this RPG Maker Let's Play, we look at the world of Immortal Sins by @AceOfAces_Mod , an adventure that focuses on the story of a young woman with simple aspirations that is drawn into a Hero's Journey that will redefine her. Along with a young Dragon Slayer, she will be forced to confront enemies from without and within.

While the game is solid in the gameplay and mapping departments, and has good enemy balance, the storytelling needs to be more streamlined so that it comes together in a more cohesive fashion. Right now, it's more of a disjointed series of events. The motivation of certain characters needs work as well: enemies become allies way too quickly, and it's often difficult to understand the background information of the characters and the world itself.

However, the game has a lot of potential and has a very well developed world lore.

  14. Hey hey everyone! As our list is growing, we're going to post another update. We're also going to renew our efforts to hit two LPs a week (we're both very busy, but we love our fans and will do all we can to keep hitting this goal!).

Anyway, here is the most recent list:

    Catacombs 1: Demon Wars - @SimProse

As usual, if we've missed your game, or misattributed you to a game, please let us know as soon as possible so we can fix it.

    Peace!
  15. In this RPG Maker Let's Play, we look at the unique and mysterious world of Geiken by Orgaya, an action RPG where you play an amnesiac silent protagonist. Reminiscent of Zelda or Secret of Mana in game-play and similar to .hack in narrative, Geiken is a fun game with lots of potential and moments of sheer, unadulterated humor.

There are a few problems with the flow of the game, mainly when being guided from one objective to the next. There is a moment where the player has no idea where to go, even though the expectation of hand-holding has already been laid.

But the game more than makes up for those issues with its personality, it's very likable secondary character (Mira is just so much fun), and it's unique mystery of "what is going on."

  16. These two are wonderful at reviewing projects. Anyone who hasn't requested a game review and wants some very constructive, positive feedback, do so immediately. Or just, you know, watch their videos so you can see for yourself.
  17. Hello,

I am in the process of redesigning the official Killer Gin Website. It should be up very soon. If the site is not up by the time you get to it please feel free to skip it for now. Thanks!
  18. Hey @KillerGin! :) We were planning on playing your game tomorrow. If your site is not up by then, can you please send us a PM so we know it's OK to bump your game down the list? Thanks in advance!
  19. Hey hey, everyone. Unfortunately, Teal is sick, so it will be a few more days before we can get to another Let's Play. Sorry!
  20. I hope she gets well soon.
