    About
    Spoiler
Llewl is a love letter to the classic JRPG's of the 90's but with many modern design principles, the goal is to create a jRPG that plays like 2023 but hits square in the nostalgia like its 1996.
Join trainee Guardian Sarah and her best friend Hans as they go on an epic adventure to rescue her childhood love Llewl. Joined by a diverse team of characters along the way, the game has one goal, to see you the player play through with a smile on your face at all time.

Apologies for the lack of meaningful contribution to this thread.

Awesome to meet a fellow Megatile user, I'll check out your game asap.

Ah finally the game that understands me as a player. I am going to give it a go.
  6. So I just played through part of the demo, and as a fellow game maker, as well as a reviewer and streamer, I streamed my experience to some of my community, and we kind of just had a blast going through it, discussing game design stuff as well as things that were really good and things that could use some improvement. Not in a bad way - I honestly dont think there was anything I saw or experienced that was actually BAD or INCORRECT - But purely in a constructive way. If youre at all curious how I reacted to the demo (At least what I played through before I had to leave) here;

That said, to summarize, the game has really solid potential. You have good mapping skills, some features are just great and little details I didnt even consider despite using a lot of the same assets. So I would be happy to stream more of this.
  7. Positives
    • (+) The 3-d like beginning was great, you knew something was about to go down.
    • (+) I did not expect swimming, and then when I realized I could swim it was like woaaaaah, neat!
    • (+) Snow bros are too cute :D And the boss fights were challenging and well balanced.
    • (++) I appreciate the humor, and the game is true to its word - it made me smile several times. Characters say some funny stuff, especially the Blade and his mouth. Go trainee guardian Sarah!
    • (+) The combinations / limit breaks (whatever they are) are frigging awesome during fight when they come up. Great job there, including the battle animations.
    • (+) Exploration felt rewarding, especially since I was a little bit lost wondering around the big maps.
    • (+) The graphics are well done. And the pixel art animations/poses, great job!
    • (+) Heal on level up is always appreciated.
    • (+) After defeating the boss... all the treasures chests that were there to restock the items I used and to reward me <3
    • (+) Unreadable scrolls were kind of a cool idea. And once they are translated into stat boosting scrolls I am so glad it's applied to ALL party members, instead of me having to pick one.
    • (+) Mini games are something different and I kind of liked them. Although, for the singing mini game, maybe I can "tune" my lute first as practice since I didn't know what to expect and missed the first keyboard press.

    Improvements / Suggestions
    • (-) I wish you could save everywhere. I thought about disabling save in dungeons too, but in this day and age... it just isn't necessary and people appreciate being able to hop in and out of the game whenever they need.
    • (-) Mouse on Equip screen did not work, you have to hit enter first before you can select equipment.
    • (=) I get it's a demo, so I imagine you will add some tutorials for combat, that would be appreciated. Thankfully the guild gave some hints, like guarding restores mana for example.
    • (=) Character motivations are a bit questionable, but what the heck.... as long as the character banter is fun, it doesn't matter much.
    • (=) I would like to see more cut scenes and character interactions. Dungeon maps feel big and the balance heavily favors exploration and combat rather than the character banter, which I wanted to see more of.

    Bugs
    • Battle encounters sometime wouldn't activate on event touch.
    • I was jumping as I was floating down the water stream in that mini game and then it just kinda kept going and going without any obstacles appearing... I think I broke it. And that is a shame because my last save was from before entering the cave and I did not want to fight the bosses again. :(

    Spelling Mistakes
    • Mayor guard:
      • you are exhuasted (I think it was mispelled)
      • want to save save your friend
      • theres a good chance we can catch them there

TL;DR: I am not sure the screenshots you have do it justice. This was a pretty fun game and the project has a lot of potential! Please keep the humor. Writing funny/witty dialogue is WAY harder than anything else. As long as you can keep this vibe going, it'll be a good one. I recommend people give this demo a try.
  8. Oh look, Llewl has a thread now. Just letting y'all know I've played this way before all of you. All the way back before it was cool and before any and all future enjoyers of this game. I remember granpa's spontaneous combustion and everything.

Thanks so much for playing, also thats some absolutley brilliant feedback, I'll work on a way to make some saving possible in the dungeons, it used to break enemy pathing and mess up encounters but I think I can at least throw in a couple of safe/save rooms before each boss.

Again great feedback (the type I love and adding all of it to my kanban boards).

Also I was lucky enough to get some wonderful feedback from Big Squirrel:

And also some wonderful feedback from Spiral Sigil:
  11. Well, considering you took my job as the Orc's musician, I feel it's only right I play this game and ruthlessly trash it out of vicious spite!

    /s

I am interested. Schedule is packed, but I want to stream it. Let me know if you are planning any major updates soon-ish and I can hold off until those updates come.

Whoa, I had no idea SG had another composer. If its any consolation, I get approx 1 piece done every 3 months for him lol.
Would love your feedback dude, really appreciate it.
  13. I wasn't officially his composer. I told him that I believe in his product and since he often complained about the quality of the music packs, I offered to do a couple tracks for him to show my support.
He wanted me to do more, but 1) It was already like pulling teeth for him to actually like my work (that I did for free). It took a community poll and his jam game before he was finally convinced that my work was fitting. 2) I don't really have the time to work on someone else's game since I barely have time to work on my own game. If he was easier to work with, I wouldn't mind occasionally doing a bonus song again once every 3 months like yourself...
I like the dude, couldn't ask for a more honest person in my court, but damn is he impossible to please.

Anyways, I'll see what I can do. I'm interested in playing it. Watch out, knowing you're a musician, I might be pretty critical of your soundtrack.
  14. Wow, looks like you did a ton of modifications and updates. I'll have to have another run through this on stream sometime soon!

Ah thanks dude, all the amazing feedback I got I just had to act on it.
  16. Capture.PNG
Not much of an update as I've been grinding out the story and moving stuff in and out of place. But so far I'm at the midpoint of Act 3 which is pretty close to having all the narrative and plot points in place.
  17. I've no idea what I'm looking at, but I love me flow charts and graphs and stuff.

Its pretty much gameplay structure/plot for the first we'll say 3/5ths of the game.

    Grey - standard gameplay
    Light Green - cutscenes
    Blue - Minigames
    Red - Bosses.
Yellow is the Act, so like Act 1, Act2, Act3 etc..
    Dark Green - Chapters

Probably some spoilers in there if anyone can read the text lol

  19. Its been awhile since I had anything to show as progress has been under the hud and bug polishing but got started on the assigning tasks to recrutied guild members.
No hud or anything decent graphically yet, just a mechanical showcase.
    Heavily inspired by AC: Brotherhood.
  20. Your key art looks awesome and I love the tiny sprites! I'm a big fan of FFIV and FFV's style and I've been wondering how someone could update that style to be more detailed while keeping its charm and this sprite set definitely threads the needle! Looks like a joy to play!
