Hmmmm. Definitely making burgers tonight, oh and need to think of like 5-7 different types of Pirate related questions and puns.

Mmmm... homemade burgers!
-
Mlogan, so sorry to hear about the data loss! Same to you, Ms. Littlefish, about the music!
I've not even got started today. Was up 'til nearly 6 in the AMs working with various things on maps I've (mostly) finished, so I took the rare chance to sleep in and RAN WITH THAT -YOINKED!-!
Today will HOPEFULLY be wrapping up on Sanguine-VI, although due to a minor financial crisis, that may or may not happen, as I have to work out which Peter to borrow from to pay which Paul, while trying not to incur the wrath of ANY Mary! ;)
So, we'll see how it goes. -
Today I spent two hours watching anime before I started x.x so much wasted time.
Anyways, I just finished up the time system that's going to govern the middle part of my game. The player gets five days in which he can preform three actions (bond with allies to get special skills and learn about their backstory, investigate the mystery behind the magic, or level grind). So all in all, he has 15 actions he can preform. Even if you never level grind, it's not enough time to finish all your team member's routes, so you'll have to replay to see everything. Also, there are three different endings you can get depending on what level you are, what you investigated, who you spent time with, etc. There are only three, cuz that's all I'll have time for.
My goal for the day is to finish a transformation sequence and a couple cutscenes that will bring the character into the middle part of the game. If I get that done by today, I'll do the ending tomorrow. Then that'd give me almost two weeks to fill in the (rather simple to do) events and cutscenes that take up the majority of the playtime. This will hopefully allow me at least a day or two to balance the enemies and skills :p I've not got a great head for numbers, so I just sorta guess at what numbers to plug in until it feels right-ish. -
Didn't really get much done, either today (I don't really feel that bad about it now, knowing that others have as well) I'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed by what I have to do (even though I know I can set it up) which was the major reason why I put the project aside for the day and worked on other things, instead (like an unrelated short story and I finally changed my computer over to Japanese locale because I've been using an increasing amount of resources from Japanese sites and it doesn't really help when the text is completely unreadable) I have at least been working on events off and on, though not enough to call it actual work...
If I still feel too overwhelmed tomorrow, I might just put together a short demo of what I have now and just forgo entering the contest. (I think the stress is starting to eat at me in a bad way...) -
Awe :/ Don't give up on entering it in the contest. If it's stressing you out too much, just realize it doesn't have to be perfect. Even if you don't make something you think can win, you'll still feel awesome having made a game in just a month. So don't stress out about making it AMAZING. Just make something you think is complete.
-
Finally got my drive and energy back, so now I'm working on the world map; keeping it very compact! Also working on the text that comes up when you enter areas; I'd love to show the animations off, but alas, I'm still waiting for my new PC with an actual GPU...

-
@lemongreen - I feel you. I feel overwhelmed and as if this is just not going to happen (and be good enough) for the deadline. BUT I am going to keep pressing forward, hoping that it will all come together.
However, if it is seriously stressing you out, it's not worth it. Your health is more important. -
Spending all day today redesigning a smaller version of my original idea. Just not enough time. (Our map artist is without internet so can't communicate with him so we're just going to jampack what we can into the maps we have)
Should still turn out good though. More so focused on combat but the combat is being more fleshed out now that it's the focus of the demo -
!@#$
Finally finished floor one.... with dialogue and events...
I don't know if I'll be able to finish floors 2 and 3, plus 3 levels of caves....
I'll try!
Also, 30 minutes of CASUAL (NOT thorough) gameplay. Huzzah. :B -
Have done NOTHING today. Just got back in from doing all the financial running and whatnot. Going to TRY and throw together a few quick maps when Fluffy gets here (I really do work better as a partner), but we'll see how that goes when I come to it.
I also just bought the Modern Day Tiles and Shop Add-On, because why not? That pretty much means the only graphics I DON'T have are Arabian Nights, a few of the High Fantasy things, and the DS/DS+ packs. I THINK.
Looking to snag those (the DS/DS+) eventually, as well. Not going to lie, the High Fantasy stuff don't feel right with my style of whatsits. *Nods*
Anyway, going to go ahead and fire up the program, see what speaks to me. -
@legacyblade: Considering I've been having small panic attacks all day when I try to work on my project, I'd say the bragging rights of having finished a game in a month isn't really enough of an incentive... That's also what I meant by "if I feel too overwhelmed tomorrow"; I don't really know why it's giving me panic attacks, but I hate the lingering feeling they leave after they're done...
If I do just put this aside, I may at least pool the resources I've gathered and try to put together a short visual novel type of game (I know I can at least accomplish making something like that in a week, so it wouldn't be a complete bust) -
Awww, lemongreen, panic attacks suck. I have had them in the past and they are terrible. I think it sounds like you have a good plan - do as much as you can.
As for me, I've been pleasantly surprised at what I've accomplished today, all things considered. After I got as much restored as I could, I redid the database - again. Thankfully, my game isn't too battle-intensive and since it's an hour-long game and since I thankfully had all the info saved in a word document, it didn't take too long. After that, I added the crafting script and started putting in recipes - there will be weapons crafting and some chemistry crafting. I still need to test some things out there and fine tune it and all, but I hope it will be enjoyable.
I also started listening to music tonight. I made it through the tracks that came with the Humble Bundle and picked out one definite and noted some others that I liked as possibilities for certain scenes.
And I fined-tuned some events. So overall, for the start of the day, not bad progress. -
Doesn't look like we're going to make it at this point. So far every sprite artist I've tried to hire has ended up saying they can't do the work and return the payment. I don't ask for much, but now we have 13 days left and no sprites. . .
-
Didn't get jack -YOINKED!- done today. Figured it might be that way.
Rather upset about that, but hey! That's the way it goes. -
Seeing my friend's work: A SWEEET new logo for PoP and having found GOOOOOORGOUS public domain music featuring a beautiful organ... has given me another wind! I've got floors 2 and 3 ready! (Which, ironically, are just a few rooms)
-
@Iron Croc - Can't wait to see the new logo!
@Xenos - Keep going! You got this!
My goals for today:
- Finish putting in and testing the crafting system.
- Pour through music, starting with Scythuz's many available tracks.
- Start mapping a new area I had an idea for. (Yep throwing out the 3 map goal, lol. Still keeping it minimal to what I need for right now.)
-
My goals for today are to finish my maps. I'll worry about the remaining music in a day or so. I've gotten the program at least to a state of "works often enough to use and recovers my save if it does crash."
I'm also waiting on my air conditioning to get fixed. And my mapping will be interrupted by some cheese cakes I have to make for a co-worker's birthday. Good news is, if the air doesn't get fixed the ingredients for the cheese cake will soften really quick. -
Been a few days since i posted in here...
Anyway, I have been doing the menu's etc for the game. Almost got everything into place and should have some screenies on that soon. Also, I finally coded in explosions, just have to add some damage radius and they are done. The coding for alternate weapon types is about 80% done. Just have to fix the images shown and placement of the weapon units on my ships...
Havent done much of the survival game mode yet. If the worst comes to the worst - It can be removed but as long as I can pick back up the momentum, everything should be fine.
Starting to feel slightly behind, which aint good. So to counteract that, I am going to make something nice to eat, go for a quick shower, maybe have a cheeky smoke :D and then delve into scripting :D
Edit:
Ms Littlefish - thank you - You just reminded me I still have to write a saving method into my game :p
That could have easily been forgotten lol -
Only 4 endings left in my game, I can do it before the deadline.
