  1. @Seitensei: Go wild. There is nothign set, it's games like THOSE that set the code. There are no (FINISHED!) games yet, ergo the world is empty. Well, the End of the Witch of Lorven is finished, but that doesn't give out many details. Same thing :I

If you wanna come up with some concepts for the materials, swing by the irc and we'll give you feedback on your ideas or any we may have vaguely floating around.

WILL there be a codex? Yes, probably. When there is stuff DONE.

Oh man, an answer from the cartographer herself! I'll admit it was the north pole that threw me off, but that makes sense. Thanks for the clear answer!
You make me blush here! Ahahha... But I am happy that cleared it up. I can sometimes ramble confusingly when trying to explain something.

I'm also eagerly waiting to see this spread. I love this thing more than is legal and find myself put the project plans in this setting without a second thought. I'll be all jelly for the first person to get a game out for this. (Oh wait, Indrah has Witch or Lorven all done and wrapped... ;A;)
  3. I was looking all over for this thread and was about to create my own and port the existing information myself! LOL

Indrah, does anyone still check in on the original thread in the "other" forum? It would be a shame to leave out any who for whatever reason doesn't have an account here too.

To the admins/mods here, could you please Sticky this thread, or possibly even give Arum it's own catagory for quick and easy access? If all goes well, this project will really take off!
  4. I still check regularly, but since in vxnet they've forbidden linking to this forum, I can't very well just say we moved here. If someone seems to be really missing out on the other forums, I'll PM them.
  5. To be clear, if I want the most up-to-date information on Arum, this is the forum to check? (as opposed to vxnet)

Yes. I hang out here the most and (as far as I know) most of the active Arum devs do too.

I'll be closing up the board over there and redirecting it to here once the threat of iEntry banning me because of it is gone. Which could be anywhere from a day to a month to never. You also don't have to censor yourself by calling it "that forum." We have no problem with people talking about other forums here. We aren't iEntry.

As for the category/sticky, that will come in time. I don't want to sticky it yet, because people are less likely to read a thread if its stickied. "That's ridiculous and doesn't make any sense!" you might say, but it's true. Trust a man who has been an admin/mod for quite some time, a lot of people have this weird block where they will ignore stickied threads. Since the forum is still in its infancy, we don't want to add any new forums/sub-forums before the existing ones have been developed. But don't worry, RMU is officially endorsed by the forum and its staff, so it isn't going anywhere and will be receiving support from the site. (I mean, it was started by me, an admin, and is supported by Scin, a mod, and Touch, the lead admin and Degica employee. And of course the awesome Indrah).

As I said earlier in the thread, yes, this is the OFFICIAL forum for Arum. On top of being the official RPG Maker forum. So, basically, it's as official as you can get.
  8. Awesome. Looking forward to seeing how this develops, guys 'n' gals.
  9. Just wanted to comment a few of us in the irc channel have decided to participate in the RMN ACE contest (finsihes april 1st) with games from Aum. [Link to contest here]

That means that with some luck, we will have, at least, playable demos of games of a few games taking place in the Arum universe.

    :o LOL

    Sevith,

For the most part, I had to put the pieces of the puzzle concerning the Exodus myself because everything was so hush-hush over there. It isn't the first forum I've been on that made it a bannable offense to link to other forums, but even mentioning anywhere else over there is likely to get a person the 'ol Size Twelves up the keister. Not knowing how touchy the subject was, I just wanted to play it neutral. :)
  11. Just giving everyone a heads up. There will be an RMU/RPG Maker Web Contest starting April 1st and ending April 30th. The core of the contest will be to make a game set in the RMU setting, so start brainstorming now. Details and an official announcement will be coming soon (probably tomorrow).
  12. For anyone that hasn't seen them yet, the contest rules are out! Hope to see you guys putting up some good games!
  13. Hi Indrah I was wondering what the rules or settings are for higher beings like gods, spirits, or anything else in that category?

The simple take is: as long as they don't rule in PRACTICE over everything, you can do what you want.

For example, gods. Obviosuly there will be many religions. Can all those gods "exist" for real? Well yes, because it's impossible in a fantasy setting to stop everyone from wanting to introduce gods. As long as they do not, in PRACTICE, block other developers' setting details, they can be done.

The same way, other devs can interpret religions and historical events. Even if you create, say, a God of Destruction for a last boss, and even if he TOTALLY exists in your game, other people could still interpret it as a myth. Same goes for spirits.

As I see it, it depends largely on the setting for the game, which usually takes place in a confined area. For example, the country I'm using right now, Dermod, is very peaceful, has almost no monsters, very low magic levels and no official religion. They could believe gods do not exist, even if somethign HAPPENED with gods in other games.

Short answer: as long as they're executed in a way that does not create absolutes, you can use them as you want. It's one thing for a character to confidently state "this is like this" as an absolute, and another for the WORLD to do the same.

Do they exist by default? Well, yes, because there's no way SOMEONE won't use them in a game at some time.

I hope that solved the question, I kinda went for a rant there OTL
  15. Thanks, it did and I have a quick question. Can the sample maps from RMVXAce be used in the games that are set in the RM Universe?

While the sample maps in Ace (and VX, everyone seems to forget that VX also had sample maps) are not meant for direct use but rather for reference to see how to use the tiles and learn mapping techniques, nothing is stopping you from using them however you want.

So yes. You can use the sample maps if you want.
  17. Created the Country Reference Map topic. Added link to OP.

Visit here to see the Country Reference map and submit your info (please read the rules).

    http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/1262-arum-reference-world-map-submit-your-new-countries-here/
  18. This looks very promising. I'd love to take part in this, even though it'd probably be a while before I presented a completed game that you could actually use. I'll submit a country tomorrow (though it looks like the best areas are already taken ). Is it alright if I submit a country before I start my game? I'm saying this because I haven't actually purchased VX Ace yet.
  19. You should wait to submit a country until after you have at least started the project. You obviously don't have to wait till it's DONE or even in a playable state, but if we just let anyone submit a country, then we might run into the problem of the map getting filled up with countries that never actually get used.

It's also worth noting that you don't have to use Ace for Arum games. We do, however, prefer games made with in the VX RTP-style, so VX and Ace games are preferred.
  20. Alrighty then. I'll submit my country in a few days. :) It'll also give me a bit more time to think it through...
