I also think the map is a bit too dark. I had to turn my brightness all the way up, which is rather sorry for my migraine-inflicted eyeballs, lol. Even then I can’t make much out.

Ah, the lamp is not on yet. How about this?@sleeperer I am not being sarcastic when I say that I can't be sure whether it's too RTP or not because the image is so dark that I can't see that much. I can see the bottom right corner, but have no idea what is to the left or above (if anything).
I made it dark because it's in a basement.
@Ms Littlefish ah my bad. I think it's due to my internet connection. The posting double. -
@sleeperer Personally, I think it looks fine. But that is just me. And I could be totally wrong here, but in my perception, the only people who would think something is "too RTP" are those who either use that version of RM and are very familiar with the RTP or someone who has played a lot of RM games so they are familiar with the RTP. Or maybe they think they are.
For instance, I haven't played hardly any RM type games and I have only really explored MZ. I really don't have any idea what the RTP looks like for the other versions.
I think a casual player who isn't familiar with a lot of RM games wouldn't know it was RTP. But again, I could be completely wrong about that. -
@ZombieKidzRule hi, I think your thought makes sense. It's really helpful. Thank you so much!
-
@sleeperer That lamp makes all the difference! I think it looks fine. The only suggestion I would make which would apply whether the tiles were rtp or not, is that basements are usually a bit on the scruffy/dusty side. The staircase, however, positively gleams. I'd edit it by taking out a bit of the brightness and adding in the odd dirty mark. The same with the clean floor. There is a dirty path semi-transparent tile in A2 which you could use to mess up the floor a bit.
-
@Kes thank you for spotting that Kes. I feel the same way too. It's too clean for a basement.
-
@sleeperer Justify that neat condition by claiming the character's mom clean it up the whole place before leaving. :p
The following picture is a mix of some KKRR tileset and the RMXP RTP, version 5.
Yes, the portal is animated because I used the lava autotile and then covered it with modified tilesets of that very same eerie portal. It feels good to be tricksy here. XD
-
I'm FINALLY finished with the last map in the Cube Trail demo, just some balancing to do and then I can release it! It's influenced by Pre-Searing Ascalon from Guild Wars if anyone can tell (the architecture mainly, and the raised land with the stairwells)
-
Is it just me? Or are those doors like pretty much alive? :D
Here's version 7 of my Lava Dungeon.
I simply removed some shadows that destroyed the illusion of watching Aluxes or Alex get in trouble in an actual dungeon full of molten metals that could easily turn you into a "living" statue. :S

-
@kyonides Version 7 is definitely better.
I like the idea of the portal I maystealbe inspired by that. -
@kyonides nice idea! When the event happens, her mom is outside, working. I even planned to give a small carpet. Haha.
Your map is neat! I don't find any RTP things. Looks unique and well made. The portal remind me of War Craft.
Thanks guys for your ideas! -
Actually, all the lava you can find there comes directly from the RTP! XD
The wall tiles and even the floor ones were way darker than on version 5 I think. :S
A small carpet? That one gotta look kinda old, I guess. -
@kyonides ah, maybe because I am working on modern horror, not jrpg. So, I am not that familiar with jrpg assets. But really, I think yours is above standard, I mean in a positive way, better.
Yeah, carpet/rug, her home is a lot of carpets. It makes the floor more unique and pleasant to see. -
Sounds nice... but perhaps too nice for a basement... Just saying. :p@kyonides ah, maybe because I am working on modern horror, not jrpg. So, I am not that familiar with jrpg assets. But really, I think yours is above standard, I mean in a positive way, better.

Super excited about some new tiles I got, and my changed lighting system, so I want to share a lil 'glow-up' of one of my maps!
BeforeAfter-Things like doors and windows are missing because they're events. Also some roof tiles were done with events to get around the only 2 layers of B-E tiles thing
Anndd some in-game screenshots at different times!

The house in the upper right corner looks weird because of that empty space on the roof. The houses with the red roofs look quite plain, almost unidimensional. :(Super excited about some new tiles I got, and my changed lighting system, so I want to share a lil 'glow-up' of one of my maps!

The rest of the neighborhood seems like a lively place to live :) ...or hide some potential weapon of mass destruction that could scare the hell :o out of you all. :S You know, sometimes mad scientists pick those beautiful towns where people aren't supposed to be very bright... -
Yup! This is because I finished that roof with an event tile! There's a semi-hidden treasure chest in the top right corner, and I needed the roof to draw above player there so you can get it. Events don't show up in 'save map as image' so some of the roofs do look odd because of this! The house in the upper right corner looks weird because of that empty space on the roof.
Look...the other roofs take me like 20 minutes each because I'm bad with the corners and angles :yswt:The houses with the red roofs look quite plain, almost unidimensional. :(
Nah, nothing like that. This is the first town; it's pretty peaceful. There's a difficult quest that can conclude here depending on the choices you made during said quest. And on the next map over, there's a summer beach hut, which is new! You can buy time-sensitive items during the summer season there! The rest of the neighborhood seems like a lively place to live :) ...or hide some potential weapon of mass destruction that could scare the hell :o out of you all. :S You know, sometimes mad scientists pick those beautiful towns where people aren't supposed to be very bright... -
@Cythera I saw some evolution of the map with the comparison photos, like the appearance of a fountain and a different window that is lighted. I like the changes quite a bit.
One question though. What is the intended circular light source in the last photo? I didn't see anything on the map that would produce it, unless I missed something. Is it a torch or something else? Just curious. -
Just the player lantern, @ZombieKidzRule
I thought about being clever and changing the player sprite to show a lil handheld lantern at night, but there are times when your party is different. So it just seems like too much effort for such a small detail
