  1. @SoftCloud Anytime! Looks much better now indeed.
  2. I don't know for sure where to post this, but I just wanted to share a beginners "work". Still new in all this RPG Maker thingy! All thoughts and feedback is welcome.

    Made in RPG Maker MZ.

  3. Welcome @Zquence.
Since we have a dedicated thread for showing of map/game screenshots I've moved your thread there.

Oh, thanks! I will make sure to read the forum through more carefully next time. :)))
  5. @SoftCloud I think it would be worth while investing a bit of time in editing some tiles to make them sideways view If they don't already exist) so that you could put a cupboard along a side wall. Not only would that look more natural than having everything up against the back wall, but often means that the room can be narrower. You could also create 'tops' of cupboards that you could put against the bottom wall.

[When I say 'a bit of time' I can take a front cupboard and make it into a sideways cupboard in about 3 minutes, so it's not onerous. A bottom wall cupboard is less than a minute.]
  6. @Zquence
This already looks like a good start. I like the little walkway you did in front of the house, very creative.

    A few suggestions:

I would use the shadowtool to place shadows on the right side of any house wall. In your case until the shadow touches the bottom of another wall or the tree on the right edge of the house.
Think always that the light comes from the top left, so naturally the house would throw a shadow to the bottom right.

You have a big wall of trees. Normally in a forest you have areas with fewer trees or trees standing further apart. To simulate this in RPG Maker, I would leave some small areas inside the forest blank (just grass or other little details). Such clearings could work in your map on the left half where you have a lot of forest.

At the edge of your big path, you have this darker grass autotile. Which is fine, but it looks weird that it always stops in front of the trees. You could paint the darker grass under some of the trees and it would look more natural.
  7. Hello, happy Saturday to all of you beautiful people. I hope those of you who picked up RMMZ are enjoying it so far. It's screenshot Saturday, so post 'em if you got 'em! I'd love to see everyone's progress.

I just uploaded this yesterday, but figured I'd post it here as well for additional exposure. It's my first attempt at making a teaser-trailer, so I hope you all enjoy. Have an awesome weekend!

Not really much. Just showing off a modified window for the status menu. Very placeholder-y and just more of a means to present some work done with the JS features.
  9. This tranquil scene of simple domesticity is in fact the setting for a particularly viscious optional boss fight.

  10. Started working on a pixel ARPG UI, just finished the skill bar wanted to get some thoughts? i been using a generic colored BG, but i would like to add some kind of background to it but i am running out of ideas. Full Bar.png
  11. Do you guys ever run into, not knowing how to populate a map, so it can have shine of "perfection"?
I am out of ideas! \0/

  12. @Zquence You could have things like patches of long grass, scattered trees, the odd tree stump with a fallen log nearby, vines growing up the cliff faces, shrubs, rabbits running around, birds flying overhead, scattered rocks, perhaps some patches where the grass has worn through and the rock underneath is showing, maybe a few patches of wild flowers.

There are a couple of other things you might want to have a look at.
Those grey stairs look completely out of place. Why would something as alien as carefully manufactured stairs suddenly appear in the middle of a mountain? If they were leading up to some shrine/building, then okay you could argue that it was deliberate, but they are leading up to a cave. I suggest that you use the cliff steps that come with the tile set.

Your cliff shadows are inconsistent. If you are going to use the autoshadows, then they need to start at the bottom right hand corner, not partway up. The section with the cave has no shadows at all.

In the section to the left of the stairs,

judging by the colouring, it looks as if you have used the right hand corner tiles for the second part, instead of the straight up and down tiles.

Ah! I didn't see those mistake - the shadows was just made with a quick hand, and not with any thoughts. Also thanks for your suggestions, I now have something to work against!

After a few hours with the same project, I get so slobbish... ^^'
  14. @Kes That cave home looks great! ARe you using the FSM tiles? They make everything look pretty; it's probably the rounded walls and ceilings. :)
  15. @The Stranger No, not FSM tiles (which I don't think are available for VX Ace, though I could be wrong). Massive editing on tiles from all over the place and some I've made myself.

Obv, its a WIP. Tileset is my own custom, made from scratch. Ant suggestions about map/tileset/etc?
What in progress - need to add proper ladder stuff (on screenshot bright green) and improve transition from grass to dirt.
  17. @Ys42 This is more of a mapping issue than a title set one. You have big trees growing right on the cliff edges. Nope, can't be done, their roots would be showing and with the restricted growth area they would not be as big as other trees. I suggest you have a tree somewhere on your tile sheet that is half a tile up.

On the tiles themselves, my problem is that there is very little difference in colour between the grass and the trees. That might be the aesthetic that you are aiming for, in which case fair enough. But I find it a bit of an effort to distinguish exactly what is what. Also the transition between the dark and light areas on the tall thin tree is too abrupt. I thought at first it was a low bush with something behind it that was lighter; it was only when I looked closely that I realised it was just one object.
  18. @Kes
Yeah, about the trees you are right, but I was doubting, cause my eyes arent very good, so opinion from side is much appretiated :)
  19. @Ys42 I feel like the trees blend in with the grass a bit, especially the one with the long straight section of leaves, and also the little bushes(?). Maybe a darker outline would work?
    Otherwise that looks great though.

Completely redone the trees + bushes, gonna rework rocks as well, they were too rounded for this type of forest, whatcha think about ground tile? Does it look good with grass tile?
