  1. @Nicke Top job! Really nice! love the lighting!
@Joy sounds impressive! nice mapping too! would love to see a battle!
  2. @Nicke very nice. It has A strong mood to it. Like it A lot
  3. @Nicke - Love the atmosphere and overall design.

Messing around with weakness exploitation - don't mind the placeholder art on the 3rd character and the broken battleback.
  4. @Lorenze nice persona feel to it. Like it a lot, could use a splash of red or teal in the portraits that appear in the left upper corner IMO
  5. Small update to the map and showing my new quest hud. Not sure if this is the final thing but I think it looks pretty neat. :)

  6. @Nicke Your Quest Hud - clean and unpretentious. Gives all the info needed without massive amounts of visual clutter. I like it (as you might have guessed).
    Evented or plugin?
  7. I started working on something using FSM and some custom tiles. Parallax mapping is just too much fuuuun!

Harold is trying to hide! ;)

    @Nicke I like the atmosphere! :)
  8. @Plueschkatze I love that map, with the screen tone and the way the map looks.. it just looks awesome.
Anyway, for my map, it's going to be a short game while I work on organizing my room, writing and such on... TADAH! It's without effects and all, but this is the opening map.

  9. @Caitlin Woah! That's so pretty :o!
  10. What about this, pls?

  11. Ol' Toaster is making his world map. Finally back to developing! I intend to use the map node travel plugin and this image(when it's done) to allow the player to traverse the world. Since I do strictly parallax maps using the Medieval tiles, making so many maps for an open world game is much more difficult than creating specific regions and creating nodes to travel to. I can have a fewer maps, and eliminate filler areas where one might just wander down the road through a mostly empty forest, for example.

I've got the basic shape fleshed out, I just need to start tidying up the edges and adding a few islands. I'm no master cartographer, so my mountain placement doesn't need to be entirely realistic, but if anyone has suggestions on where they might go, I'm down. What I have at the moment is a placeholder and mountains are always a struggle for me.

  12. @Kes : It is a plugin made by myself so I can change it how I want. Thanks for the feedback.
  13. Nothing like sitting on a bench with a random old man in the pouring rain.

Whether or not that's meant in a good way is up to artistic interpretation.
  14. I've been working on my evented battle system and it is coming along nicely. I just hope I'll be able to have a good balance on the encounters. ^^

  15. I started over. I think a more vertical map allows me to zone things better. I have, however, resolved not to start over again at this point. I'm not going to design the completed map first, and then make the game, because I do tend to go off the rails and add in things on the fly. I don't want a map I can't really edit. So basic terrain, rivers, mountains, lakes, and the few locales I know I'm going to use for certain are going in.

It's a large image, so I took a zoomed out screenshot.

  16. @PsychicToaster wherendid you get the map maker? Or whatever you use? I’ve always wanted one of those sorts of things for my game. But the only ones I’ve found work only with photoshop. Which is not my friend unfortunately. Lol. Because it looks awesome!

It is called Wonderdraft. It is in Early Access, but it was well worth the $20. It can do a lot, it's mostly bug-free and stable(I haven't actually encountered any myself). It solves the issue of designing coastlines like I've posted, because the brush tools for modifying them are really good. You don't have to painstakingly work to achieve jagged edges. It can be done simply by clicking. It's pretty great. The symbol collection is pretty minimal atm, but it supports custom images. It can also generate landmasses for you to modify, which is how I got my image up there.
  18. Very cool! and can you use it commercially if you buy it? just out of curisoity. I.m sorry about going off topic, but to make it better could I get some feedback on this...

I'm in the process of redoing the maps from Corruption (the game file corrupted before the game was finished and in order to get it into the contest in time I had to just mapshots I'd taken throughout as parallax.) I'm considering making Hotspring caves smaller, taking out the big hotspring with the bridge and everything from there up, leaving only what I've already changed and the bottom where the mines are. That way I can expand on the mines for metals and gem shards for crafting.

Trying to figure out how to make this game better is hard.

It can be used commercially. I like that cave you've made. I presume you're in the middle of changing the wall tile colors? xD. I vote to keep the bridge. It is an interesting spot in the map, and you could make it a spot where something happens if the player ventures over to it.

I figured I'd share an update since this thread is moving slowly. I changed the color theme of the map, which saves me the effort of trying to color it in. Mountains and rivers are done. A special thanks to @Finnuval for helping me out. I always stress out over where mountains and rivers go, and while I'm not totally out for a realistic approach, at least making it feasible is a plus.

All that I need to do now is tidy up the coastlines, work on that lake, and start labeling/adding locations as I develop them throughout the course of my writing the game world.

  20. Thinking about changing my outdoor forest area into an indoor botanical garden; just testing out the concept here.
