  1. @Tea - Your variation on the cliff looks good. It is random enough to give a natural look. A lot of times I see 90 degree turns and long straight runs of walls and this is not that. :LZScheeze: After looking at this for a bit, what sticks out in my mind is that due to the graphic setup, the tent looks incredibly huge when you consider it reaches almost to the top of the cliff rather than being down inside the canyon. The only thing to fix that would be to make the cliff walls higher to compensate for the large tent or make a smaller camp area ( maybe just a sleeping bag and campfire) instead. I assume you plan on adding trees and shrubs later? Breaking up the grass with bare dirt areas would help distribute the green grass more naturally too, but that would be related to what kind of area this is supposed to be.
  2. @Tea It is also the case that to put up a tent, you have to be able to get all round the various ground pegs. Your tent is so close to the cliff walls that doing that would be impossible. If you want to keep such a large tent, then you will have to make the ground space for it a bit bigger.
  3. I just finished recreating maps for swamp area in my project. A young witch is late for class and she's doing nothing but running around outside the school.

  4. I love your map! it's very atmospheric for a swamp I must say I am impressed!

Now... Which map title screen looks better? I'm drawn to the first one but I'm afraid it might be too cluttered. It's for a little game I'm intending to make, just a bunch of maps and stuff for fun.

  5. @Paladin-Cleric of Awesome Just an idea, but what about having only the bottom right corner filled like pic1? So that the rest doesn't feel too cluttered as you said.

  6. Llike this?

I actually quite like this... your awesone @cabfe
  7. Happy to help :)
  8. Ignore the tree tops, I was testing stuff. I made it a campfire area instead of the large tent.

  9. @Tea With the campfire the canyon area seem a lot bigger than the tent. If only the tent was about 1/2 size it would fit into this size map a bit better, right? I found that out when I was trying to use it for similar reasons. Looks good! Keep up the practice with the trees and stuff. It's a good way to learn what works together and what does not.
  10. @IguanaGuy Thank you for the feedback earlier and now!:kaoluv: I definitely will try a lot of cliff mapping to get better :kaopride: I have some time now and been wanting to work on a small game
  11. @Tea, Nice map! If you want a tent in a cliff, you could just simply increase the height of the cliff.

@Acer2020 , an impressive spirit dialogue system.
  12. May I suggest putting some dirt under the campfire. It's kinda hard to light a fire like that on grass, and it helps make the area look a bit more like it's used on occasion. I also recommend stumps or logs around the campfire for seating, if it's one that gets used often enough.
  13. Hey,

from my current project a picture of the first map to travel.
I have decided to have a little bit zoom and taller characters.

  14. @Momsenek lovely map and art style, reminds me of golden sun for some reason :)
  15. @Momsenek, wow good map. However, you made characters taller, so you should make the building taller too. To make them proportionate.
  16. @Momsenek : this style of yours kind of remember the games from GameBoy Advance... this is nice :)

  17. So I've decided to do my own little IGMC month thing (just for me), I've decided because I won't be back at work for another month because of my leg I'd best find something to do. So Ii decided to actually make the game I'd already recently made a title screen for (somewhere about or on the previous page I think).

So here is map 1, early stages and the opening of the game.

The reason for the odd patch of green is explained pretty early in the story (the demon who owns the castle's lover is a human, so he gave her a garden as a patch of her land in his). I have a little bit worked out game wise, so hopefully I'll be on regularly with updates of new maps. As for this one, can anyone think of how to make it more demonic looking in nature?
  18. @Paladin-Cleric of Awesome , You can see change the sky to nighttime and have demonic statues in the buildings.
  19. @Paladin-Cleric of Awesome More demonic looking? Well, having no door to get into the building is a good start! But joking aside, I think a lot of this will come down to things like screen tint, having a fog overlay (not too opaque, just enough to give some atmosphere), maybe have symbols on the walls instead of banners.

You could give the impression that this castle 'contaminates' the land it's in by using an edited grass tile outside the castle that looks a bit more dank and miserable. You'd have to play around with hue etc. That would also make the 'garden' bit stand out as more unique. Does the courtyard have smokey, swirly torches to light it? In fact, how is it lit at night?

Then things like crows perched on walls, perhaps one or two flying around and then landing (hiddenone has some standing and flying sprites, I think) together with crows cawing as a sound effect, plus the odd rumble of thunder, though I appreciate that a screen shot isn't going to let us hear SEs.
  20. @SoSick: Ah great, thanks :) I tried to have a little bit snes feeling (like star ocean 1, tales of phantasia)
@Kupotepo: Thanks for the advice! I didn't recognize that :)
@Kvothe: Thanks a lot for the feedback :) Your screenshot is great! I like the idea to see their thoughts. Besides - the hole project looks interesting. I will check the demo! Why is the one box transparent? Is this a text that the heroes already have read? In my opinion the white boxes in this dark place are a little bit too bright for the surroundings. Maybe a other color for the boxes would be also eye catching? Like a darker white (what??). I will start playing :)
