  1. Alright. Day 1, February 4th...

Spent pretty much all time available yesterday thinking up and writing the story from start to finish for a new side project I've decided to compel myself to see through from start to finish by the end of GMD. Ended up being a little under 17 pages, I like it though. As for what I've done today thus far I've pretty much just been messing with the database. Set up the four protagonists and developed the full skill-set of one and about half figured out a second. Worked on one map for about 15 minutes but it's basically a wip that I made just so I could start the opening scene. Since nothing I've done is tangible I guess I'll just describe the game below, since storyboarding is the largest of what I've done today. Just started this project today.

    Spoiler
I'm planning on a playtime of between 1 and a half to 2 and a half hours. The game is a survival horror featuring zombies and the occult, but rather than being semi-modern like most zombie stories it takes place in a small mountain village during the dark ages. When rumors of a strange disease begin to circulate an accomplished plague doctor volunteers to investigate but when he doesn't return a group of three plague doctors go to find out what happened to him and help out where they can. Among this group is Rue Talbot, a newly promoted doctor that wants to help people above all else. At the foot of these mountains she will find a nightmare she could never have imagined and will have to band together with other survivors in order to survive.

    Characters:

Rue Talbot(18): an aspiring doctor that is extremely sensitive to the sufferings of others around her. She is a bit naive but will never turn her back on someone in need. She uses special herbal concoctions to support and protect her allies in battle, keeping them healthy and safe from the infection that threatens to turn them against one another.

Kerwin Bramm(13): A mysterious youth that Rue runs into while hiding from the undead in an abandoned farmhouse on the outskirts of the village. Though he is a child Kerwin is a fearless and distant soul who fights the undead using occult chants read from an ancient journal he carries around with him wherever he goes. He's likely the most emotionally stable member of the survivors' team, though at times he can appear to be without emotion at all.

Mara Sarildah(24): The daughter of a famous knight within the King's personal guard, Mara has trained the entirety of her life in order to follow in her father's footsteps. However upon his death she found that the nobility feel no need for a woman knight. Without anyone willing to hire her Mara was forced to become a hedge-knight and travel the land seeking odd jobs in order to scrape by. By chance she happened upon the village of Euisol only to find herself trapped by an undying horde.

So far the game is just going to utilize the basic battle system but with hp/mp restored after each battle and evented skills that allow for hopefully interesting strategies. Even the first enemies in the game won't die by strait dps because they are zombies and since there are no bullets to quickly blow out their brains killing them is a bit more involved and requires the aid of occult magic if you don't want them to just get right back up again. Tomorrow I plan on fleshing out the battle system hopefully pretty much to the end and finishing up the remaining characters skills as I've only fully finished Rue's so far.
  2. Day 1 - Tuesday, February 4th

    • THE GAMES ARE ON!
    • Today for my hour I spent working on the enemy database.  Yep.  Get ready to see that a lot with this, I'm trying to finish the entire database before working any more on maps and content.  Fortunately, I already have a lot of stats, as well as rough game plans of what each enemy does on the Google Drive.

    • databasework_zpsf23bb750.png

    • Sadly, today was a lot of backtracking.  I finally cemented agility, so had to go back and change everyone's agi stat.  This was something I needed to get done, and decide who would be slower/quicker enemies.
    • I also discovered that all of my bosses were about 5 levels below where they should of been... had to change those stats as well, but everything should be smoothed out moving forward.
    • Everything wasn't backtracking, fortunately.  I was able to finish off the level 11-15 enemies, and work on the first optional boss: The Fallen Child.  I finished his "Casual" stats (since my game will have Casual/Normal/Hard difficulties).  He's still way too hard for a Casual setting boss, but it was still a really good (and exciting test fight).

    • GO TEAM RED!

No worries! Any team is perfectly fine.
LOL - and now that I put everyone else in their teams, green is way behind :D So I've given you green. Teams are NOW almost even in # of updates per week.

ALL TEAMS ARE AGAIN OPEN FOR JOINING (except Yellow, which can only be joined by mods/admins)

I will update the spreadsheet again in a couple of minutes. Thanks to those who are checking their details and letting me know when I mess it up. Keep doing it :)

We have 43 people taking part in February's GMD. You guys are going to run me off my feet!
  4. Day 1- February 4th

I already had an idea of what kind of game I want to make and how to make it, so I spent the couple previous days to browse for the materials/resources that I need since I'm horrible at making one (low artistic skill). I've came with the game synopsis though the big features are secrets. And this is gonna be my first game, so I'll be rusty at implementing the data to the engine, but hey, I seek perfection, so it will take time to progress much. : p

    Spoiler
I welcome thee to another fandom game. Yes, another fan-based game.

what is this game derived from? Oh, it's from the most popular open-source. : p

    TouhouHitAndRun

Yes, this is another Touhou fan-game. Real-Time RPG game, with up to 20 characters in your parties (yes, 20 is the magic number) that you can summon up to 20, too.

    Story:

Your generic pandemic is coming to Gensokyo, most characters got infected and it's up to you to choose who to save / who to play.

    Characters:

    Playable: 20 -> check hisoutensoku

    5ArMJZ3.png

    Non-playable: 20++

    Features:

    S-S-S-SECRET

    Credits:

    ZUN

    Twilight Frontier

    Alphes

    Enterbrain

No-screen shot so far, I'm still making the script. .-.

    I hope that counts.

  5. But what did you do TODAY? Since you're posting daily updates, you need to be specific about what you accomplished TODAY :)
  6. Well, I implemented the character, and struggling at photoshoping the custom sprite sheets because it came as a huge size, so I need to do the alpha thingy and crop it, and rename them. .-.

While, some sprite sheets come in separate files (already divided, lucky).
  7. Today, I did nothing.

    DlVvXPo.png

Okay I'm just kidding, don't kill me Shaz hahaha.

    Here's my real update.

    Spoiler
All I did was event a bit in Princess Princess V5.5 and well, just general things. Modifying the old cutscenes and adding new ones.http://puu.sh/6Jwea/318fcab7f0.jpg

    and this:

And this encounter display (special thanks to Racheal <3)

I was also working on sprites and moths...Which I can't really show here since they're both commission work lol. I'm still working but I doubt I can be online later since I want to focus on work. Just telling the general things I'm doing right now and for later. I promise to have better updates than this lol.
  8. Day 1

    nqImgDg.png

I meant to do a lot more today than I actually did, but I blame that on doing Let's Play videos, which are going to eat into my game creation time. I'm half-tempted to include them as part of my game creation for this too, since they do eat up a lot of time and I tend to supplant creating with them sometimes. Also, because I learn so much from actually doing them - sometimes I have to remember lessons about what not to do for skills and events and doing an LP will remind me.

So, yeah, I'm gonna include them because why not? They're part of my game make time. On with the report then~

Today I did the last Let's Play/Try of Rune Rhetoric, and wrote up a small summary for it - which is something I like to do when I finish an LP/LT. I then started my Let's Try of Violent Whispers that went a bit differently to what I'd planned in that I was a lot more picky than I wanted to be.

On the actual creation side of things I started on an inner map for a Video Tutorial that I'll probably do some time this week, talking about picture lighting. I also decided I'd do an outer one to show off different types of lights as well as dealing with maps that are larger than the default size (I usually stick with default sized maps when it comes to inners).

Then I started compiling some music. I re-found an old site I'd used a few years ago with some great free-to-use music and nabbed a few songs for playing in the background of tutorial vids. I also found some pictures that will do for thumbnails for said vids.

I then began mapping for another of my 'secret' projects because I'm terrible when it comes to sticking to just the one game. I got annoyed at a map that wasn't working, scrapped it and then retried it only to wish I hadn't scrapped the damn thing. :/

Lastly, I decided to edit one of my first games and just mess with the eventing since back then I evented everything backwards. I've come to the conclusion that I've made a lot of progress where mapping, eventing and story-telling/dialogue is concerned. XD

    Spoiler
An example of my wonderful dialogue.

    E7ZWfoL.png

How incredible a mapper I used to be... :/

    PEc7obz.png

I've gotten a smidge better since then.

  9. Day 1

    Team Red!

Wow, I'm amazed how much you all did on your first day. I promised the game one hour every workday in my breaktime, but I guess I'm very slow, because all I managed to do was to edit and recolor the sprites of my two main characters and they are still not done...

My game is called "Autumn Fair" (if you have a better name, please step up, I beg you) and it is about a day on a fair, wheee... Really small scope, but with lots of details.

Okay, so here is what I did:

  10. day 1!

recently I've been thinking about changing to ds-style faces, and today I implemented that! as well as renaming/regendering a few of the party characters, I picked out face sprites for the main characters and started editing them to give them different expressions. so far: 2/9!

of course, now I need to go back and change a whole bunch of cutscenes... I fixed up all the ones in the first area, as well as the final cutscene (same area!), and changed all the npcs in that area to use DS sprites as well. I'm probably going to keep chipping away at editing cutscenes/areas tonight, but I wanted to post here before I forgot haha

also did some brainstorming to work out some sidequest stuff...it's not in-game yet, but it was still important to work out what I want to do :)

e: ok, gonna go to bed. since this post, I mapped a sidequest area, and played around with sprites for hourssss, coming to absolutely zero decisions. awesome.

  11. Oh look day 1. Where the hell were you when I needed you yesterday! Hahah, alright alright. So this morning I'm finishing up my next of 7 (Is it 7? ... .. ) yes 7. ^^;

Ok so this morning was Liro, the land of the Titans.

    Spoiler
    Liro (Province of Earth)
    History:

Liro, the land of the Titans. From behind its immense walls, this province brims with life. It is without question, one of the most peaceful lands. Though peacful, Liro should not be underestimated. During, 'The Burden' Liro received its title, "Land of the Titans." This was due to the colossal suits of living stone the Earth Souls would carve from the land and in essence, pilot. The suits were given names, the most prominent was the Peace Keepers. Since that time, the Titans have faded into legend. Their scattered remains found amongst Liro. Liro never willingly participated in wars, though on occasion came the need to end those who challenged their borders. Had Liro decided to be active in the war effort, it's presumed that little would have been able to, hold back the earth.

    Weather:

Do to the many trees and canopy's, Liro most often is fairly shady. Though plains are a great place to get a cool breeze and some sunlight. Raining is common as well.

    Landmarks:

Liro's most prominent landmarks are its large trees, the lush vegetation, and the "Forest of Giants". It's a fairly mountainous region. Scattered remains of Titans are not uncommon either. There is also the massive wall that was erected during, 'The Burden' to distance themselves from the outside world.

    Housing:

                Low Income - Rock Houses

Medium Income - Stone and Wood

High Income - Tree Cities, and Mountain Cities

    Inhabitants:

Liro's inhabitants share many traits; varying green hair and eyes, skin seemingly as tough as stone, incredibly dense bone structures causing them to weigh much more then they seem to, resulting in heightened strength and natural durability. As a whole, Liro's people are very much ruled by faith. They respect their land tremendously. Even so much as cutting a tree requires permission and a traditional ritual. Stone and rock however doesn't, do to not being presumably 'alive'.
GO RED TEAM.png Team Red Represent! ^^
  12. I woke up early and started working on things around 5:20 lol... Im sure this is not all i will be gettign done today or even this morning but wanted to make sure my post was up befor I had to hit the streets.

I finished one map and worked on making two others.

    Spoiler
The first map I worked on, which at this point I feel is pretty much finished and won’t need much if any future work done on it is an exterior for town which serves as a major plot point near the beginning of dis game, the subsequent maps where the first and second level of a house in said town.

worked on another map and some events

    Spoiler
I added a scene to the beginning, altered the map that went with the scene, and although not finished I worked and reworked an event error that had my character moving one block right when he should not have been. As it turns out it was still receiving the command to move left, for one block, and then continuing with the new event. I find it kind of funny how sometimes the most minor lines give me the run around while other, seemingly more difficult events are easier to work out the kinks for.. Sometimes…

    Breakfast

    Spoiler
    Egg Bacon Toast lol

    this and that

    Spoiler
Worked on polishing up some maps a little, with the generator I made a sprite that would fit in as a NPC the game. I also added to my ever growing and continuing word file that houses all of my dialogue before it gets entered into its appropriate place.
(Sorry, no scrrenshots at this time, Perhaps neart the ned of the GMD I will have some images or even video, but untill then Ill stay reserved untill I feel things present themselves as finished.)

    (Edited to save space.)
  13. Day 1 february 4, 2013

(okay, I'm an hour late, but it's still February 4th here in the Philippines)

Adrian (my partner) and I agreed that I can proceed to the graphics aspect of our game, since I already had finished my non-graphic related tasks (NPC dialogues, Item dialogue, polishing the story, etc.).

So i spent fragments of my day conceptualizing what the protragonist should look like. While I do know what the hero will look like, my partner has given me creative freedom to re-visualize and improve the characters....

Today, I made some sketches on what he probably looks like (no color)

  14. Since I said I'd be posting about the previous day's work in my update posts and since I don't want to wait 24 hours to join in with everyone else I'm going to post about what I did Monday.  Shaz, you are free to disregard this post if you feel I'm doing this wrong.

    Day 1

    Spoiler
On the top of my todo list is cliff walls.  I've had this half completed one that I've been strugling with for a while now and I keep trying to complete it and failing.  It just doesn't want to tile.  I fought with it again for a bit and eventually gave up.

Next on the list was finishing up the store window auto tile, which I did and then fixed up the other two window tiles and then went on to make a metal roof and did a few recolors.  I now have a full A3 sheet!

I was on bit of a roll after that so I brought up my A1 sheet and filled it in the rest of the way too.  I fixed an error, redid the deep water so that it wasn't just a solid color and added a puddle to the only empty spot on the sheet.  I may end up switching out some of those tiles later, but it'll work if I don't.  I'm very happy with the day's work.

I'm sorry about the shrunk preview images.  This pack is going to be sold in the store as soon as I'm done.

  15. Team red seem in the lead right now for update numbers? :D

    Anyway. I started on RoR.

    Spoiler
After creating the game file, I went and sourced some Ralph facesets! I now have 72 different Ralph expressions. :D link: http://necroblood.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/rpg-maker-vx-ralph-faceset-rtp.html
Then, I began working on the plot and stuff. I decided to have Eric beating Ralph at the beginning, and Ralph being sad and running away. I implemented this, and am currently searching for an Eric battler. But to no avail... .

Next, I added Ralph a cave, and did an event or three in there, with Ralph talking, deciding to go adventuring again, getting his supplies, and leaving.

Unfortunately, that's all I've had time for. Posting my update now, and closing RPG Maker for the night. Bye guys!

I shall update tomorrow. Again. And the day after. Continuing forevermore. Well, till the end of GMD.

Oh, and Shaz/Archeia? When is the last day of GMD? I don't think it says, and as we started late I'm not sure if it's Feb 31st...
  16. That would be difficult, since February only has 28 days ;)

I think we go for 4 weeks. So it should end on March 3.
  17. GMD Day 1 - February 4, 2014

I'd hoped to have had a more productive day today, but it seems that trying to edit tiles while simultaneously babysitting two six-month-old puppies is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be.  :(

Regardless, I still got some tiles done as well as the basic layout for the map of my game's intro cutscene:

    Spoiler
    cusycWQ.png
I also continued to work on the starting town, although it's still only about halfway done now.

And March 3 it will be~
  19. Playing around with a script where you create more of the map as you go. With only on hour my progress is limited.

    Spoiler
    Day1-1.png
*hits switch* (Script call -> Current map data changed)
    Day1-2.png
Next time I plan to let it copy sections by terrain tag and allow an offset as parameter. (Still dunno how yet, and let's not forget that the code is very rough atm.)
To anyone interested it playing around with the map data I found my Table pretty printer to be useful.

    *hugs*
  20. Now you KNOW you're going to be inundated with requests for that script, right? ;)
