Game Making Drive Feb 2014

What is this? If you're reading this, you probably, most likely are making a game. We all read articles on game design, discuss game design, post our screenshots, and so on. However, the big issue with all of us is how much time we are working on our games and how much we get done in a certain time. A lot of us don't get as much done in our games as we like, and we end up chipping away at our games, sure, we get stuff over time, but a lot of the time, it may not be substantial, and it doesn't add up to quite enough. What if there was a way for us to band together to give inspiration and support for the sake of a common issue and work together towards it? This topic is inspired by a topic back in 2008 in RMN and posted by MOG. This event is handled by Archeia and Shaz. How does this work? What I need you guys to do is think of a time every day where you get at least a half hour to work on your game. It can be more of course. I can be flexible. I'd like it to be around the same time every day. If this is utterly impossible, try to spring for something at least consistent, like every Tuesday and Thursday or something like that. A schedule, if you will. Hell, you can even have weekends not count. Post how often and when you will work on your game and provide updates, and tell us what time zone you are in (for example, "I will work on my game Monday to Friday between 5pm and 7pm. My time zone is UTC-6" - don't say PST or Central - say GMT/UTC + or - how many hours). Now, every day (or whenever you assign yourself) on that time, get something done on your game and post about what you accomplished. Now, it has to be somewhat substantial, it can't be something like "9:00-9:30, I imported a backdrop." I'll use discretion for what's substantial and what's bullcr*p. I'm going to make a signup sheet for this purpose, and I'll go first. Got it? If not, feel free to ask me to clarify. Keep in mind, this is an ongoing thing (which means it's a commitment/schedule) and you have to live up to it! Of course, feel free to post if you want to change your daily time. Of course more people are free to join, just post your time! To register, copy and paste the following into a new post, and fill in the details. I'll only do one time per week as I cannot talk about some of what I plan to do.

Score Sheet is up, folks. Please check it and make sure I've got your days and times right. I THINK I've managed to get everyone into their preferred teams so far. For convenience, it's also been added to the first post.

It's great to see so many participating (we have just under 30), and so many committing to working on their games EVERY DAY! The scorekeeper (aka ME) will be kept very busy!

Teams Red and Blue need a few more members, so I'm going to temporarily close signups to Team Green (and Team Yellow is only available for mods/admins). After numbers even out a bit, I'll open up Green again. (Note - I'm tracking total posts per week for each team, not number of team members) If we don't get more signups to even out teams, I may have to reshuffle a bit, and some who gave no preference, or said green and another team might be moved. So please check again when the event starts, to see if you're still in the same team.

DAYS: Sunday-Friday ( i have a volleyball game on Saturdays, so i can't work on it)

TIMES: Varies. I squeeze time to work on our game when i've finished my tasks at the office. At night, 8:00-10:30 (but varies unless I'm really exhausted due to work)

I think it's safe to allow signups to Team Green again :) So all teams are now available to join (with the restriction that only mods/admins can join Team Yellow).

Not sure where we post but I just finished my finalized land bio for one of my Provinces. I really really have to get going but I'll link it in a spoiler. All of this was written this morning. I do hope it counts, because what might take someone 5 minutes to write, might take another person 45 minutes. I like to be thorough, not sacrificing quality for speed.

Ustrina (Province of Fire)
History:

            Ustrina, the land bathed in fire. During, 'The Burden' the element of fire manifested its gift here. The inhabitants were aggressive by nature. Nearly incapable of controlling the fire that burned deep within their souls. The gift certainly made defending themselves and survival much easier. It also made raining destruction nothing more than a thought away. As time passed on, war after war, countless battles fought, the land grew tarnished. What was once lush, and lively in its original creation was now simply a waste land. Its sands a testament to its peoples ferocity. Beneath of which many secrets are hidden. Vegetation still grows mostly along the edge of waters.

Weather:

            Due to the immense amounts of sand and its costal location, Ustrina suffers from occasional sandstorms. Its generally very hot all year around.

Landmarks:

            Ustrina is known for its buried ruins, lava lakes, the 'Field of Glass', dozens of abandoned military outposts and forts. There are also volcanoes sprouted unnaturally from the earth, legend says an emperor attempted to swoon a resistant prospect, his will forcing the magma up through the land.   Though the Province has been relatively peaceful for many years, its military continues to grow in strength and numbers. They keep their border tightly monitored.

Housing:

            Low Income - Tents

            Medium Income - Huts consisting of fabric, bones, and a little wood.

            High Income - Sandstone and Wood.

Inhabitants:

            There are many common traits of Ustrinas inhabitants; tanned skin, varying shades of red hair and red eyes, body's that emit impressive amounts of heat and an extreme natural resistance to heat. Due to this fact they have less of a need to cover every inch of their body. It is also their tradition that for every year of existence all receive a red tally tattoo, in a manner and place they prefer.

This document may be subject to change, but as of right now I feel it completely summarizes the key aspects of what I'd like to incorporate into the Province, as well as a light historical background of the area. And reasoning as to why it is, the way it is. ^^
