Game Making Drive Feb 2014

What is this? If you're reading this, you probably, most likely are making a game. We all read articles on game design, discuss game design, post our screenshots, and so on. However, the big issue with all of us is how much time we are working on our games and how much we get done in a certain time. A lot of us don't get as much done in our games as we like, and we end up chipping away at our games, sure, we get stuff over time, but a lot of the time, it may not be substantial, and it doesn't add up to quite enough. What if there was a way for us to band together to give inspiration and support for the sake of a common issue and work together towards it? This topic is inspired by a topic back in 2008 in RMN and posted by MOG. This event is handled by Archeia and Shaz. How does this work? What I need you guys to do is think of a time every day where you get at least a half hour to work on your game. It can be more of course. I can be flexible. I'd like it to be around the same time every day. If this is utterly impossible, try to spring for something at least consistent, like every Tuesday and Thursday or something like that. A schedule, if you will. Hell, you can even have weekends not count. Post how often and when you will work on your game and provide updates, and tell us what time zone you are in (for example, "I will work on my game Monday to Friday between 5pm and 7pm. My time zone is UTC-6" - don't say PST or Central - say GMT/UTC + or - how many hours). Now, every day (or whenever you assign yourself) on that time, get something done on your game and post about what you accomplished. Now, it has to be somewhat substantial, it can't be something like "9:00-9:30, I imported a backdrop." I'll use discretion for what's substantial and what's bullcr*p. I'm going to make a signup sheet for this purpose, and I'll go first. Got it? If not, feel free to ask me to clarify. Keep in mind, this is an ongoing thing (which means it's a commitment/schedule) and you have to live up to it! Of course, feel free to post if you want to change your daily time. Of course more people are free to join, just post your time! To register, copy and paste the following into a new post, and fill in the details. One question, Are you allowed to cover multiple days in one post? I've seen a lot of people doing it on past game making drives but isn't that ruining the whole point of the event? I mean, if you could just post it whenever you feel like it, why even bother? :unsure:

R4B: That usually happens because a person didn't post one day (causing a chain break), and so they post that day's progress on another day so they can still get points for it. It's less of a "post when you feel like it" and more of a "I missed my scheduled post, but I did work and I still want points" kind of thing.

Times: mornings 6/7-9/10 . . . somtimes evenings as well... I will post in the morning.

Preferred Team: Green was my first choice anyhow :p ~~Yellow... this way I know that I wont be moved to fill a team~~ ;)

No. Yellow is for mods only since they're not bound by chain break. They handle punishment. It's a closed group after all :)

Yay, GMD! Could I work on my resource pack for this instead? If not I can start working on a game idea I've been kicking around.

Thanks for sticking to the requested format for posting, folks - ESPECIALLY for listing your time zones in terms of GMT/UTC. Makes things a whole lot easier for me :)

R4B, we prefer people DON'T post multiple days in one post. It should only be done if you absolutely can't avoid it. If you do it, and the timing is "just right", you could still cause a chain break for your team. So no, don't do it if you can possibly avoid it. Part of registering is making sure you CAN work on your selected days AND that you can post on your selected days.

My first game making drive! I'm going to do mine slightly differently. FoD is annoying me, so I want to work on another project too. It'll probably end up as a short 1/2 hour game by the end of the month, but I will make a new game, just in this month. It's not going to be with custom anything, just a regular RTP game. Named... Revenge of Ralph.

With March Madness around the corner, and me being part of the "worlds best pep-band", I might have to cut down to only one day of the week near the end of February. Don't know yet though

This needs to be fixed, please. UTC is not a time zone, and if you are in England, your time zone is not +/- 0 UTC.
