A High fantasy story that pulls heavily from the real world. Fallen Feather is a progressive, modern RPG that focuses on Visual Aesthetics, Immersion and, above all else, a Setting that gives People of Color the Limelight. I’m working tirelessly on an adventure where saving the world ISN’T the ultimate goal. Instead we’re tackling a much more difficult obstacle: Obtaining Equality.

In a fictional world obsessed with eye color, You'll deal with confronting Racism from two perspectives of races known as "Wishes" (Green eyes) & "Omens" (Amber Eyes).

Fight Monsters, Unleash Magic, Use Smart Devices, and punch some positivity into prejudice people.

**Disclaimer UPDATE 8/24/2020 - this game and story was thought of and worked on WELL before the events of the 2020 protests but i am proud to say those events GREATLY influenced a lot of...adjustments I've made to this story. I want to give a raw story that sheds light on some serious issues so please bare that in mind as you follow this project! I will always try my best to be open minded and fair to all parties but certain themes of discrimination will be addressed and pull from real world events.

"Beginning of the end, the first kiss"

Reaper's Kiss is the scourge of mankind. A massive, moon-like object that appeared in the sky without warning or explanation over 16 years ago. When first emerging, it's intense aura had an adverse effect on the planet that almost immediately lead to the death of millions in a matter of minutes. A horrific night etched into the minds of all who remain; An event later dubbed "The First Kiss". Shortly after, It was soon discovered that every life lost during "the first kiss" belonged to one of two prominent rival races:

    Wishes
    Wishes Sprite.png

A race recognized by their Emerald eyes and affinity for A-type Fallen Feathers.

    Omens
    Omens Sprites.png
A race recognized by their Amber eyes and affinity for Z-type Fallen Feathers.

    "The second kiss"

Already sharing a checkered past, this act of genocide only served to further widen the rift between Wishes & Omens as both sides mourned the lost of family and friends. With no one to blame for creation of Reaper's Kiss, tension rose at alarming rates, reaching a breaking point as another discovery was made later that year... "...The only thing worst than death is the absence of new life"; A hard lesson for Wishes and Omens to learn as they realized that Reaper's Kiss has been actively sterilizing both races, sabotaging their ability to reproduce and bear children. An on-going phenomenon now known as "The Second Kiss". 16 years have already gone by and Reaper's Kiss still remains in the sky. Never Rising. Never Setting. Resistant to all attempts of destruction thus far. The respective populations for wishes & omens continue to decline steadily as they both inch closer to a shared fate of extinction, despair began to spread in abundance.

"The present is PEACE" KS PEACE.png

Fortunately for many at the top of the decade, A community service & security force known simply as "PEACE" was formed. PEACE has worked hard for the last 10 years giving purpose back to people and dispelling tension between Wishes & Omens. Their nobility and leadership have captured the hearts of many supporters around the world, especially the admiration of Zorian Dancehall, who wants nothing more than to join their ranks and make a difference one day himself. However, while things may seem settled on the surface, uneasiness and distrust still brew between the races underneath it all....and for Zorian who believes whole heartedly in PEACE's cause, the reality of how deep racial tension can go will open his uniquely crimson eyes to a whole new world....

    COMBAT:
    Spoiler
    GeneralUI 680-2.png
The Turn-based combat that occurs throughout the game is comprised of 4 simple sections that players will focus on to achieve victory.

    1. The left "comic panel"; this area displays an active player turn indicator in the top left yellow text box, the enemy party with individual HP Bar(s) & weakness(es) that appear while targeted.
    2. The right "comic panel"; this area displays the player's party, the turn order of battle (see "flow of battle" below for more on that), & what is known as the "Soul Power Gauge" (see "soul power & vibes" below for more) on the far right.
    3. The "Thought Bubble Command Wheel"; Below the left comic panel on the "bottom of the page" you'll find this command wheel. This represents the active party member's thought process as players decide to perform any one of their actions from a number of available choices.
    4. The status bar; To the right of the thought Bubble is a status bar for each party member which displays current Health Points (HP), Remnant Magic Points (RP) and a status effect(s) indicator.
    Flow of Battle
    Turn Order 1.png
Fallen Feather features the ever popular Conditional Turn-Based battle system used in several AAA JRPGs from classics such as FFX, to modern hits like Octopath Traveler & the Atelier series to name a few. Players will have an overall turn order constantly on display for them that dictates the flow of battle between you and the enemy. The choices you make in battle have different weights to them which can and will change the order of who goes next and, in some cases, how often. Your command choices could result in you dominating the opponent OR falling victim to a string of attacks! Play smart to shift the tide of battle in your favor!

    Fallen Feathers & Remnant Magic

During your journey you will come across "Fallen Feathers"; Mystical plumes that grant each party member magical abilities known as "remnant magic" while equipped. inspired by the infamous Materia System, Fallen Feathers can be equipped, swapped or removed on the fly from the main menu, but be mindful as a single party member can only handle equipping a maximum of 4 Fallen Feathers at a one time and certain feathers can only be used by members of certain races. While in battle, remnant magic can be used to inflict devastating elemental attacks, boost/cut attributes or cause/remove status ailments depending on which you use! Remnant Magic also evolves! With every battle won, each Fallen Feather equipped to party members will earn experience. When that experience reaches a certain threshold, stronger variations of Remnant magic will be unlocked and available to party members!

    Soul Power & Vibes
    Vibe680.png

During the course of combat, actions players take will build up energy for what is called the "Soul Power Gauge". Once filled, players can spend this energy to have any and/or all active characters "Vibe" - A temporary state of focus that unlocks a party member's full latent potential, allowing them to dish out crippling attacks as well as providing them an opportunity to unleash character-specific signature moves known as “Talents”. Exploration & Interaction:

    Spoiler
    City-680.png
Fallen Feather happily embraces the truth that a good role playing game isn't just story & repetitive combat. Those unique breaks from the at-times-tedious formula are crucial to what makes these games all the more memorable. That's why some scenarios in Fallen Feather will require thought, quick reflexes, decision making, and good ol' problem solving skills to advance further.

Solve Cases - Talk to select NPCs with the ellipsis marker to initiate and resolve side quests known as "cases"! However be careful, there are eyes everywhere, helping some people can and WILL deny you the chance to help other as solving one case may lock another from being attempted on that playthrough, choose who you help wisely.

Road Blocks - Equip and Use remnant magic to remove obstacles that block your path and/or find hidden treasures!

Asset System - Alter or improve your weapons and armors by attaching small cube shaped modification chips known as "Assets" to them!

    Vent_22-680.png
Puzzles and Mazes - Navigate your way around various spaces big or small as you visit various portions of a bustling city with a shady underbelly! Conquer time sensitive

QTEs - complete complex button combinations at a fast pace to avoid close call scenarios.

Shop directly off shelves for the items you want! - Enjoy a more life-like experience grabbing the items you want and need from their respective shelves with the added modern convenience of on the spot self-checkout! Just grab and go! (*FYI - "Gingerale" is indeed one of the most powerful healing items in the game, IYKYK!)

Words from me as the Creator/Author:
In Complete Honesty, this project is and was always a huge undertaking but something I’m adamant on seeing through for several reasons. I first came up with the idea in 2003 but always had it on the back burner. However, since summer 2018 i’ve been working on it DAILY.

Major Credits (I have an ENDLESS pool of people to credit for what i'm working on but for people who've gone above and beyond for me i'd like to credit them right here!)

    -@Low
He's worked very hard with me for the last year on AMAZING battlers for all of you to enjoy! I look forward to working with him on the rest of the characters to present you all with the most beautiful 2D combat experience possible!

    -@hiddenone
An amazing spriter and overall person, I can't say enough about hiddenone but i'm sure its all been said on these forums already lol but i look forward to using every sprite she's made (and others she will in the future hopefully) justice!

    -@puffer
A genuine mapping wiz, this young man designed Portla, worked on it tirelessly, researched real cities and consistently kept me up to date all while navigating his own busy schedule, im greatly indebted to him!

    -@reAlice
Hardworking and understanding, she created the official logo and gave it so much life! Even despite me going back and forth on my own vision she was helpful all the way through!

MANY MORE CREDITS ON THE WAY!! (I have em all written in a pdf, its a loooonng list lol)

  2. I love the premise for this!
  3. One of my books was thinly veiled commentary on race relations in America using fantasy creatures, so I get where you're coming from. But like I had to do, please don't bash people over the head with "racism is bad." People want to be entertained, not preached to. But as long as you're not preachy, I think you're off to a great start!

I would argue against this. I'm not here to, nor do I hope that it comes to an argument over politics, and you seem to be pretty positive too, but that would depend on the game. I personally don't see a reason why "racism is bad" shouldn't be a big message in the game, and I believe some games can be "preachy". The racial undertones are going to go over some people's heads anyway.

There's a difference between having a message, and beating people over the head with it. You can have in it the background as a theme, but if the point of the game is to teach "racism is bad," you're going to run into trouble. I know this from my own experience. Play play games and read fiction to be entertained, not be pushed an agenda. But It is a fine line and often times hard to find. I've often times found myself on the wrong side of it, especially when I first started writing fiction years ago.
And to make it clear, I'm not picking a political side here, I've read both conservative and liberal books where the message was laid on far too thick. This is a question of balancing telling a good story with pushing a message you want to share. It doesn't have a side. If a guy came here with a game focused on gun rights by fighting against "Gun grabbers" I'd have the same issue.

Understood, I've been working on the story for quite a long time, yes "racism is bad" is the ultimate goal but if it.eases your mind a bit that's not all there is to the world in the least! for the most part you'll be dealing with Zorian and the other characters personal story arcs which is your normal (family, regret, love, dreams) while fighting monsters normal to their world known as "Horrors" who, like pokemon, vary in power and rarity.

Like you, I'm trying really hard to thin veil it like modern america but not so much that its screaming in your face but it can be felt and is quite alive. I will admit the first act will lay it on a bit thicker than the rest of the game but Its to make a statement & i look to X-men alot in how they handle racial tension. (I make alot of comparisons lol!)

But I do thank you for your input, I'm no master writer and since this is a legitimate fear from.reading the synopsis it's my job to cater to that as to not alienate any possible readers/players so I will be careful not to become to overbearing! Hope you continue to watch this games growth

Thank you so much! I actually have alot more then im revealing here and plan to divulge more over the year! Hope you stay tuned!
  8. This looks great. I like the battle scene.
  9. Made some changes to the Battle GUI based on some constructive comments i received on Reddit, im leaning a little more into the comic theme and came up with this, let me know what you think!

    More Comic Style
    SbHkMbY.png

For context i kept the inverted black and white tone for a nice contrast and it seems to pull away the busy-ness in the background, keeping your eyes more focused on the battle options than the comic decorations (i will town down the comic surroundings in the final edit, these are just place holders of my guy Vegito in the manga strips!) I'm also going to go over the health, magic and limit gauges
  10. Great Theme, Well Executed. What do the 3 arrows and gauge on the right mean?

Thank you, using yanfly party limit gauge I fashioned what I call the "Full Burst System", during battle, attacks and skills build the full burst gauge, every arrow represents a single "burst" (the speech bubble at the bottom left of the gauge also represents how many Bursts you have) with a max of 4 bursts in total

You use 1 initial burst to enter FBM and from there you can use very powerful attacks that further consume Bursts you also unlock a limited skill that can "Break" opponents, a status I made that greatly reduces stats on enemies, some monsters will be really strong so breaking them is important to deal that final blow
  12. That sounds awesome!
  13. Do you have a demo available yet?

Not yet but it is in the works I commissioned alot of great artists so once I get a few more things back I'll be settting up a demo in the first city, till then I'm fine tuning mechanics and aesthetics so please stay tuned!
  15. SO HAPPY to finally make this update! when i first started this thread i considered it the end of phase 1! I showed you the the projects first iterations and my initial vision, now with this post i celebrate the end of phase 2! i spent 8 months working with amazing artists on major aesthetics for the project while i started implementing features that will be consistent themes throughout the game!

A world of diversity, the only color that matters is eye color, a race of people known as "wishes" have emerald eyes while the race known as "omens" have amber eyes....Zorian tends to stand out with crimson eyes.

  16. Looks great!
  17. Great arts and great themes you choose. I like your game promotes greater awareness and talk about the difficult issues honestly.

Yeah, another dev makes the politcal game. I am so happy that you strive to make the game feel real and do not jump over the elephant in the room. :kaocry:
  18. Any update on a demo?

    Any update on a demo?

So production on the game has been VERY good I made some life choices that is speeding up the project, I can't say when just yet as there's still a few mechanics I'm hammering out but I have a STRONG feeling I'll have something this year sooner than later!
  20. Phase 3

Good Evening! It wasn't planned but I literally just realized I did my last update 1 day and 1 year ago today! So Phase 2 took literally a year to get to phase 3! With all things considered and real life road bumps I'm very proud of the progress as it was more so on the internal mechanic side and actually BUILDING a playable experience (I even started to learn how to edit script code this year!!).

With that said, I want to debut to you all what I call the "Progress Trailer", a montage I put together that shows the overall look and feel of Fallen Feather's current build:

This video will be up on Fallen Feather's Instagram this week but I wanted to share it here first!

    Updates:

    • The celestial construct "Nocte Solis" has been renamed to "Reaper's Kiss"

    • Majority of the script has been reworked and currently doing scenes and dialogue!

    • While not the final design, I changed the images on the battle layout from placeholders to custom Fallen Feather Art.

    • Part 1's Battle system has been COMPLETELY Balanced and FULLY PLAYABLE.

    • Animated Faces that talk and blink are about 20% fully implemented!

    • All items, price, use, and their corresponding animations during battle are 100% complete!

    • The music used in the Progress Trailer above is by a fried of mine who has signed on to do majority of the games OST! More of his music HERE

As for those curious about a demo, the honest truth is I am deciding against doing one. Demo's are very strong marketing tools that can increase or reduce your sales based on the experience and the quality of the demo alongside timing it's release intelligently to properly promote it's full game counterpart is an obstacle I'm not convinced I want to tackle.

over the last few months alone I've seen countless RPG maker devs with GREAT games on the way announce demos and then go into 3-4+ month development hell trying to polish and perfect their demos with constant delays and updates that carry broken promises that makes me believe demos are more of a detour from completing the full game than anything else. If there was a strong demand I may change my mind but as of now I am not interested in doing a demo over finishing and releasing a complete body of work after coming so far....but with that in mind:

    BIG ANNOUNCEMENT
I have decided and want to announce here first that Fallen Feather will be doing a KICKSTARTER/CROWDFUNDING Campaign in the NEAR future!

A successful campaign can put nitro fluid and (as well as steroids) into this game's final build. I now have a clear cut vision of what I want this game to be but after investing $4000+ into this project myself its time to go big or go home, and I'm already at home!

I have been laying down the groundwork to have a successful campaign but don't want to give a timeframe of when it will be launched but definitely stay tuned and watch this thread/follow my instagram!

    Whats Next
I have a roadmap, the bulk of the remaining work is in cutscenes, skill animations, and working with my buddy on that sweet sweet OST. Visual wise I have some MORE tricks up my sleeve but more on that when the kickstarter campaign comes. On top of telling a meaningful story, My aim is to make one of the best looking RTP-Style RPGs RPG Maker has ever had and while i've seen some AMAZING game popping up here lately, I'm not slowing down till I do it!

    Till next time!
