  1. HELLO!

    First time RPG Maker VX Ace user and...well...general RPG Maker newb. This thread will be where I'll share what's happening with my project as I work on it. Depending on how far I get, I may be more likely to buy the game when my trial expires in 27 days. So, let's begin.

    Current Version: 0.2.3

    Explaination:

    The first Digit is Main version, since it's still in beta, there is no main version yet.

    The second Digit is major tweaks and changes.

    The final Digit is for minor tweaks, such as stat and spell changes and so on.

    Changes:

    0.0.1 - Game is born based off my old Dungeon Crawlers 'webcomic' series on YouTube. It was intended to be a parody of RPGs.

    0.0.2 - Floors 6 through 15 were added, music was changed from the RTP, I figured out shops and implemented them (after facepalming).

    0.1.2 - Original story was scrapped. Game begins more serious, gets its own backstory. Four new heroes emerge. Setting is changed from a City with a Dungeon under the Temple to a Mountain/Forest village with a large tower rising into the sky replacing the original underground dungeon.

    0.2.2 - Class tweaks and Town tweaks.

    --Class Tweaks--

    Sage replaced with Engineer. Scholar and Engineer use guns. They now use Explosive spells instead of Non-Elemental.

    Cultist and Necromancer use scythes instead of icons.

    Gladiator lost duel wield, instead gaining it at Warlord.

    Scholar Holy Book spell replaced with Rapid Fire spell (Random 2 Enemies attack)

    Elder Village has been remodeled. Now has a sign for directions and a statue of Galron, for those interested in learning more backstory. Hero's Guild, Salant Home and Arrow to the Knee are now three different places.

    0.2.3 - Added in the Home Stone and Boss Souls. Home Stone will teleport the player to town (Outside of the Inn) and Boss Souls will teleport the player to the Boss's level. No more having to go down 5+ floors to hit the market and then making the long climb back up the tower. No idea why I didn't add this sooner.

    0.3.3 - Bug fixes

    0.4.3 - Scripts added to allow deeper customization for characters and 'better' equipment options

    The Background Story

    Sorry for how long it took to get this section up.

    Entry taken from the Holy Script, the religious documents of the Church of Order.

    The world in which the continent of Dalia rests use to have many gods and civilizations. It was a peaceful world without war or disease, a world that was trully considered paradise. It was during this time that a child was born between Vargos, the God of War, and a human woman. When Alvia, the Goddess of Hope and Vargos' wife, discovered the betrayal of her husband and cursed the child born between god and man. Vargos' bastard child lost all signs of his humanity, becoming a nearly unstoppable creature of destruction. Alvia, seeing her mistake in changing the child into a beast, hid away at the top of the Tower of the Heavens wither her husband, Vargos.

    During this time, a period which became known as the 500 Years of Darkness, the child spawned of god and mand, curssed by a goddess that was once a symbol of hope, brought destruction upon the land. The elements were sent into chaos. Whole landmasses were engulfed by the ocean, forests became deserts and deserts became vast wastelands of ice. Kingdoms were destroyed and gods were slained by the child, who became known as Al'Gazrael. From his hatred and darkened heart spawned a new race of beings, different from the Humans who were made by the gods. These creatures became known as Demons and Monsters. Powerful beings of untold darkness who only had a small portion of their father's power. For hundreds of years, Al'Gazrael and his spawn controlled the world.

    Eventually, Vargos got tired of the destruction caused by his own children and pleaded with Alvia to aid him in appointing a champion to defeat Al'Gazrael. Alvia, seeing that the destruction was just as much her fault as it was her husband's, agreed and the two gave a portion of their power to a single man, Galron Salant of the Kingdom of Aluria. Using the knowledge and power granted to him, Galron stormed Al'Gazrael's castle with an army from the Kingdom of Aluria and the Holy Empire of Balor. The lives of many demons and many more brave men were lost in the siege, which ended with Galron facing Al'Gazrael alone at the top of the beast's castle. Their fight lasted five days as they struggled to gain victory over the other, but both were equally powerful. In the end, seeing that he could not defeat Al'Gazrael himself, Galron gave up his life in a final spell, sending Al'Gazrael and his spawn to the Tower of the Heavens, where the beast would be sealed for the rest of eternity.

    However, the world paid a higher price than just the life of Galron Salant. What remained of the world outside the continent of Dalia was destroyed, now nothing but wastelands and vast, empty, oceans. Alvia and Vargos, seeing the need to fix the damage caused by their actions, created a race to aid humanity in rebuilding their world. Vargos shaped many figures from stone and earth, short so they could fit more easily in places humans can't reach, yet strong and ingenious with a knack for crafting and mining. Alvia breathed life into the creatures created by Vargos, and so the Earthborn were made, called Dwarves by the Humans.

    Entry finished.

    Fivethousand years have passed since Al'Gazrael was sealed away. Galron line lived on through the son and wife that he had left behind when he was chosen to save humanity from destruction. A crack has formed at the base of the Tower of the Heavens, now called Elder Dungeon, a sign that the barrier and seal keeping Al'Gazrael, now commonly called the demon king, prisoner is weakening. In response to this, Galion of Balor, a young priest from the Church of Order, is sent to Elder Village to investigate the matter. At the same time, Argos, an apprentice with much potential, leaves the Great Library of Aluria for Elder, seeking ancient and powerful books, scrolls and tomes said to be hidden in the tower. Vahn, soon turning eighteen and ready to be deemed a man, prepares for his journey into the dungeon, where he will place his first sword at an Altar on the 15th floor and fullfill the Salant Rite of Passage. Joining him is his long time friend, Kalia, a half-demon born between a human woman and Al'Gazrael on a day where the barrier was weakened. The four are brought together for a story that will become as legendary as the tale of Galron Salant and will take part in the regenesis of the world.

    ---Characters---

    If a word is in <>, it means that's how I pronounce the name.

    ~Heroes~

    Vahn Salant <Von Say-l-ant>

    Age: 17

    Gender: Male

    Vahn is the son of the Leader of the Hero's Guild, a global organization with Guild Houses placed near almost every major village and city. As the son of the Leader of the Hero's Guild and a member of the Salant Line, he must travel to the 15th floor in Elder Dungeon. However, the dungeon is dangerous and no one is allowed to enter without at least three others joining them. Due to this law placed by the Village Chief, Vahn teams with longtime friend, Kalia, and two outsiders, a Priest named Galion and an Apprentice named Argos.

    Kalia Yoshino <Kay-lea Yoshi-no>

    Age: 13

    Gender: Female

    The longtime friend of Vahn, she is the half-demon daughter of the demon king that was sealed in the Dungeon. She decides to go with Vahn to the 15th floor, as there is a rumor that an Oracle lives there that can tell someone's future. As the daughter of the demon king, she is worried that she will one day follow in her father's footsteps. She is the youngest in the group.

    Galion Gravett <Gal-ion Grav-ett>

    Age: 17

    Gender: Male

    Galion is a Priest from the Holy Empire of Balor. He is a foreigner in the Nation of Aluria and newcomer to Elder Village. He was sent by the Temple of Order when word reached them that a crack formed at the foot of the tower. Galion's duty is to see if the seal is breaking and, if it is, to defeat the demon king. As a Priest, he is capable of calling upon the gods' blessing and judgement if needed.

    Argos Denbaars <Ar-go-s Den-bars>

    Age: 16

    Gender; Male

    Argos is an Apprentice from Aluria, the Nation is which Elder Village is located. He thirsts for knowledge, constantly seeking new sources of power and ancient tomes and scrolls. He enjoys spending his free time reading when he can and, ironically, is named after the God of War. He is the most well rounded character, starting out with average abilities. He's also the only character able to dual wield from the start. HIs weapons of choice are daggers, at least in the beginning.

    ~Major NPCs~

    Alvia <All-via>

    Age: Unknown

    Gender: Female

    Alvia is the Goddess of Hope and as such she is worshiped by the church of hope. Here followers will set players on the Path of Hope if they so desire. One of her churches is located in Elder Village.

    Lv.30 - Grants the Advanced Hope classes if the conditions are met.

    Vargos <Var-gos>

    Age: Unknown

    Gender: Male

    Vargos is Alvia's husband and the God of War. Like Alvia's followers, his will aid the players in advancing class, should they choose the Path of War. One of hos churches is hidden on the 16th floor of the dungeon.

    Lv.30 - Grants the Advanced War classes if the conditions are met.

    Al'Gazrael <Al-gaz-rea-ale>

    Age: 5,685

    Gender: Male

    Al'Gazrael is the Demon King sealed at the top of Elder Dungeon, on the 100th floor. Roughly 14 years ago, he managed to break the barrier just enough that he could teleport a human into his prison. He impregnated the woman, seeking to use the body as a new vessel and escape his eternal imprisonment. However, Vahn's father fought through the dungeon and freed the woman before Al'Gazrael can place his soul in the unborn child's body. The child would later be born and named Kalia and the woman would vanish.

    Final Boss of the Dungeon

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    --Setting--
    ~Places that appear in the game~
    Elder Village
    A quiet mountain village located at the base of Elder Dungeon. The Heros' Guild, home of Vahn and his father, is located just outside the town on its outskirts. Due to many heroes coming to challenge the Dungeon, the town seens many visitors and thrives because of it. However, even with it's peace and prosperity, it cannot escape the shadow of the tower looming over it.
    Elder Dungeon
    Though called a Dungeon, in reality the Elder Dungeon is a 100 floor high tower held together by ancient magic placed by Vahn's ancestor, Galron Salant. It is the prison of the demon king and is infested with monsters that only grow stronger the closer one gets to the demon king's lair. Recently, a crack has formed at the base of the tower, a sign that the barrier keeping the demon King imprisoned is weakening.
    ~Places Mentioned~
    The Holy Empire of Balor <Bay-Lore>
    Balor is a deeply religious empire located to the far west of Aluria. It is the founding nation of the Church of Order, a church that worships both Alvia and Vargos. While the people of Aluria are of fairer skin and hair, the people of Balor tend to have darker skin and hair. Balor is known for the large pyramids built by its people centuries ago and for the heat of its deserts.
    The Kingdom of Aluria <Alure-rea>
    Aluria is a lush, green, nation full of forests dotted with mountains, vallies and plains. Due to it's location being so far inland on the continet of Dalia, Aluria does most of its trade with merchants from Balor. Aluria is the founding nation of the Churches of Hope and War. It wasn't until recently, with the founding of the Church of Order, that people in Aluria began to worship both the Goddess of Hope and the God of War.
    The Continent of Dalia
    A large Continent and 'home' to Balor and Aluria. It is on this continent, in the Kingdom fo Aluria, that our story takes place. Due to the vast deserts of Balor and the mountains surrounding Aluria, it is unknown if these are the only two kingdoms on the continet. Aluria and Balor have become close allies and are very dependant on eachother.
  2. I will approve this but you have 48 hours to read the Tagging Guide and modify your topic. Please follow the keywords exactly, especially the first BOLDED part about the checking first tag as prefix. Thank you.
  3. Tagging done. Anything else?
  4. From the screen shots i have a few mapping suggestions. (being a newb myself, understand this is stuff i've learned from much more expert mappers than myself)
    Basement: There's a lot of light and nowhere for it to come in from. I suggest shading the tiles and experimenting with different lighting sources. Maybe some light coming down the stairwell, or some torches on the wall. It also seems a bit lacking in detail, just try some things out. Add stuff you think you'd see in a basement.
    Field area: Relatively ok. Probably some extra floral stuff would help improve this map. Also that wooden wall looks a bit...odd. But im unsure what tiles you're using so there might be nothing better.
    Bar: Needs more NPCs mainly, also a little more detail on tables maybe. The NPC problem is because there's a lot of food on the table and no one there to eat it. The table problem is some tables seem overcrowded (the small table with the giant roast pig for example) while others are far too barren. (the large table with just a pot of tea) I would've put the pig on one of the large table, and moved the tea pot over to one of the smaller tables. Then for every table with uneaten food, there should be at least one NPC.
    Those are my only notes. other than that it looks good.
