Floor could also be used as marshmallow instead :LZSangel:
Avery's experimental XP to MZ Conversions - default and original

You know.. I've never really been a fan of "inside" dungeon tiles.. but these are great!! Very reminiscent of the whale inside tiles from Breath of Fire2. Great job @Avery :)

I did some more experimenting (I mean, this is all this thread is about) and started mixing those conversions with the default MZ Flesh dungeon tiles... and what can I say, I think it was very successful!
On the other hand, this is even more nieche, since to be able to use this set, you need to own XP AND MZ.
-
Ah, I am someone who does own both XP and MZ, so I seize these with two hands.
They are a great improvement on the way the default MZ tiles look. It's not just the big changes, it is also, for example, the way the 'paths' blur nicely at the edges. -
Great work, the variations for the floor is really nice. :rhappy: Although this marshmallow is starting to look a little off now :kaomad2:

Hmm, I might recolor those gross craters for a moon surface, haha

Quoting one of Avery's previous postsSo, while I could simply just cut off the left column of all XP chars (RTP and my own) and throw them in here, you see that I want to provide a result that a) works as well in style and color as possible and b) has a corrected walk cycle (some 4 frames to 3 frames conversions need some frame rearrangement or some animations need to change from stepping to turning therefore).
Also, while my old XP things are not all super bad, some are just not the quality I wanna provide here.
The "bison" here needed actually some additional manual fixes, some careful color adjustment (the color ramp was kinda off... and I had to rearrange the frames. But in the end, if it gives this big boi a second chance to star in your games, it should be worth it :3

The other three were some of my later XP works and therefore qualitywise just needed the color adjustment and in case of the boar a frame rearrangement. As with the bison, even if I made them years ago, I am still happy if that work is appreciated :3
Even after that time I still like a lot how I turned the chess figure here into a magical guard mecha thing xD

You don't mind if I add the fourth column to these sprites of yours, do you?
I want to use these versions in XP as well... -
...why would you? Those are in XP format in my XP thread.
-
:o I thought they had been recolored or you had added some shades to those sprites and that kind of stuff. :aswt:
-
Just realized that now that I own XP, I can use these. Mwahaha!
Thank you @Avery! These are lifesavers! -
Oh wow, I got XP when it was on sale recently for 100% off (testing it out was what convinced me I could probably make a game if I tried and felt safe to spend for MZ). And MZ I found is very limited in the "comes with the base kit" animals, so now I have some more options I can legally use (I'm probably delusional but I dream of actually releasing a game commercially so want to make sure I'm safe on all fronts there). Making a horror game and might be able to use the bat and crow sprite among others. Thank you very much!

man, it's crazy how timelessly awesome the XP tileset is. I feel like these conversions look way better than than the modern rtp! so awesome as always, avery.

It would be amazing if they officially converted all previous RTP to MZ. I'd buy it all so fast. -
I own XP so I'm very glad you converted those. And of course I want more when you find some time ;)
-
Thanks for your work Avery, will credit you if i ever finish a project! :)

Thanks for the Cow Sprites!
-
These are awesome! Thanks so much for your hard work! :)

I'm very late to the scene. I explored RPG Maker 2003 when it first came out and loved it. Now I have 2k3, XP, MV, and MZ (thank you steam bundles). I absolutely love the XP sprites more than anything, and can't thank you enough for all you've done so far. I hope you continue this project because you are single-handedly granting the entire creator community access to assets they would otherwise be unable to use (I could never pull off the steps you mentioned with the additional touch ups that you realized was needed). Thank you again!

That Monster boss is something I've wanted to do, how do you make it work?I have been talking about this for years, but I realised it might be more fruitful I made the conversion and people would see themselves what I mean: XP has thinner but taller characters, and due to those differing proportions its animals and monsters are actually the perfect size for MZ - just not the right colors and setup. So if you like what you see and you don't have it yet, just get XP when it is one the next massive sale (which is super cheap for all these things, right?). When I am posting this, XP is on sale for 2,50 ;3
This means, the terms of use are different for this one:
Free for commercial & non-commercial use, as long as I get a free copy of the game.
You may edit these for your own use, but don't post them anywhere without my permission. This includes no asking for edits of them in request boards etc.
Credits to Avery.
You need to own RMXP to be allowed to use them legally (so if you own it, I don't care if you use it in Ace or XP or MV or any other RM).
Besides that, those sheets are plug and play to use :)
Also a note: while there are converters that just cut off the left column, I converted these sheets manually as some movement cycles needed some other operations than that to work in 3 frames instead of 4 and some other detail work.
