This is a lengthy one! Let me know if the formatting is okay. I can edit it to make it easier to read.
Spoiler
I'll start off by saying that the game is very impressive. It feels so big and ambitious, and a lot of the time, like a "real" game.
The character busts and LMBS sprites were well drawn and fit together. I really like the UI and menus as well. The font choice both looked cool and was easy to read, which is nice.
I will say, I'm not a huge fan of the walking sprites. They feel a bit out of place in the context of the other art. I know there's only so much money/time you can spend on custom assets, but
maybe investing in some that looked a little more anime-y would be worth it. Low's 8D character creator is pretty cheap given the amount of content, as an example.
Unfortunately, one of the glaring issues with the game is the translation. I understand that there's a lot to translate, but it was pretty rough.
There are a ton of grammatical errors and generally just stuff that doesn't sound right. I would really consider getting someone to proofread your game and fix all the mistakes.
Personally, it was hard to take the characters and story seriously because of this.
The characters could feel a little 1 dimensional at times too. Ie, the sad girl just kinda acted generically sad the entire time.
Also, one character is mentioned to be a pervert, but doesn't really act perverted at all. Perhaps it's the translation, but make sure the characters show their personality.
As a last note on characters, I would suggest that you reconsider making Grid's defining character trait being overweight. Like, every time he's mentioned someone makes a fat joke or
comments on his weight. It got old pretty fast.
The music was okay, but it felt a little too medieval given the modern setting. Especially when you're walking around the classroom, I feel that it should be more modern sounding.
The gameplay is interesting. If i had to describe it in one way I would choose "overwhelming".
You start out being able to explore the entire city, which is quite large. That's cool, but there's so much to do and buy, and I have no idea what I should choose.
Slowly unlocking parts of the city, or at least giving the player more direction would be nice.
The time mechanic is cool, however, I think you should have some NPC's stay where they are for longer. I started the "find the railpass" quest, found the railpass, and spent some time with Grid.
When I returned to the spot where the NPC was, they weren't there. It was frustrating, and it didn't make much sense, as the NPC was supposed to be stranded there, and that's why you needed the railpass.
Once you got to the first dungeon, things got a bit messy. Adding 5-6 party members at once was really overwhelming. I had to choose 3 to put in my party, since the max is 4, but I didn't
know what each character's purpose was. I really feel that the player should only have access, say, to half the team, or introduce each character slowly, to showcase their abilities.
This added to the confusion during combat. I was still trying to figure out my character's moves, which is hard to do when there's 3 party members and 3-4 enemies on screen at once.
I ended up just kind of spamming buttons and hoping for the best. I've played 2 LMBS games before, and they were a little more clear and less chaotic.
I'm sure the battles make more sense if you have a deeper understanding of the combat (a lot of RPG's look like a confusing mess if you haven't played them), but since the player has only
had a short tutorial before this, it feels super overwhelming.
Just a few bugs/weird things to finish
-You have a ton of beds in your bus, which if kind of odd.
-During the section where you have to kill the bandits in the parking lot, the enemies will switch to the red mohawk guys randomly.
-The save points seemed a bit glitchy. Sometimes they would work, sometimes they wouldn't.
-I'm sure it helps the game run better, but having to preload everything every time you open the game was frustrating. Maybe add an opening or something to help pass the time?
